strangling his girlfriend and then stuffing her body down a man shoal in police custody. >> with that arrest, police hope to close a nearly year-long investigation into the woman's disappearance. 11 news reporter jennifer franciotti live at city police headquarters with the story. good morning. >> good morning. police have identified the victim as being 28-year-old yealed vasquez. she was -- elda vasquez. according to charging documents, her then 40-year-old boyfriend, victor hernandez cruz, now facing murder and assault charges in connection with her death. cruz and vasquez had been involved in a relationship at the time. a report showed she was granted a protective order against him. that happened just a month before she disappeared. her body was found in the 500 block of benninghaus road last week. charging documents show a detective in her original missing person's case recognized the address of where that man hole was from media reports and then made the connection. the document also spells out that while vasquez's bot --

body was badly depose -- decomposed, investigators were able to i.d. her body. cruz worked at a tgi-fridays. police went to see him yesterday afternoon. according to this website, he allegedly confessed to the killing. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. the search continues in baltimore county this morning for a missing 11-year-old boy. michael necessary is a resident of the -- ness is a resident of the st. vincent's home. he was last seen sunday night in the 2300 block of east lake road wearing a red or orange shirt with blue jeans. if you have any information, call baltimore county police. >> a prominent baltimore rabbi convicted of sexually molesting a woman half his age is once again accused of inappropriate sexual behavior. according to the paper, five more women have come forward alleging the rabbi touched them

in a sexual manner, made suggestive comments, or in some cases did both. the rabbi's attorney says his client is innocent. the "sun" also reports three of the women contacted the newspaper and the other two were referred by others. >> long lines stretched along gateway drive yesterday as thousands showed up to receive a free seasonal flu shot. it was one of the largest flu clinics in the nation. last year 4,000 people lined up for the shot and even more were expected this flu season. >> this year we're trying to do about 5,500 or 6,000, which we believe is the largest drive-through clinic ever in the united states >> this was the fourth year for the drive-through clinic. they held this year's a little early in order to give them time to prepare for the arrival of the vaccine on tuesday. >> tragic news out of afghanistan as u.s. troops suffer their worst blow in more than a year. eight troops were killed in a firefight. this comes as president obama

considers a major revision of the u.s. war strategy there. nbc's brook hart is in washington with that story. >> the attack happened in remote eastern afghanistan. rugged terrain that's seen intense combat in the eight-year-old war. >> very sheer cliffs around you , a lot of rocky, mountainous terrain, some trees around it, hard to see people. the enemy can move about using that as protection. >> u.s. military officials tell nbc news scores of fighters bombarded the u.s. outpost with rifles, grenades and machine-gun fire. u.s. troops radioed for backup and got it but not before eight soldiers were killed. >> there was some bravery up there. they fought a hard fight. >> just friday aboard air force one in copenhagen, president obama met with his war general, stanley mcchrystal. >> we must redefine the fight. >> mcchrystal had just told an audioagainst london shrinking troop levels would be "shortsighted." it's his public push for a

buildup pressuring the president. >> ideally it's better for military advice to come up through the chain of command. >> mcchrystal also wants to shift u.s. troops away from remote outposts to better protect cities. >> we've got a stiff fight in front of us. whether embedded with the population or fighting in the frontiers, these are very dangerous, tough people. >> not all of them tall bans. >> you have villageers who are simply angry that there are american troops in afghanistan and they're fighting to defend their own territory >> as polls show more americans, too, want u.s. troops home. president obama's senior advisors meet twice this week to debate a new strategy. the national security advisor says troops are just one part of the president's decisions. in washington, brook hart, wbal-tv 11 news. >> this morning funeral services ln held today for a glen burnie soldier killed last month in afghanistan. 29-year-old sergeant first class bolley was one of three soldiers killed when an

us it looks impressive on the radar. but we don't have to worry about any precipitation from that system. we've got high pressure off to our northwest. that's going to squash it to the south. as this high moves to the east, return flow, the winds turn around to the south by the time we get towards the middle portion of the week. that will increase the chance for rain by tuesday night and wednesday. for today, partly sunny. calling it pleasant, high temperatures 67 to 72. the clouds will be a little thicker in the southern suburbs than the northern suburbs. on the bay today, small craft advisory. winds out of the west at 10 to 15 knots. gusting up to 20. partly cloudy. temperatures drop back into the 40's. low 50's in the city. let's take a look at insta-weather future cast. a lot of that moisture riding northbound. a chance for showers on tuesday night. then wednesday morning a strong cold front will move in from the west with a good chance for rain showers it should clear up in the afternoon. dry conditions wednesday night and thursday. so seven-day forecast like this. low 70's on tuesday and

northeast. still looking pretty good at this hour. that's the latest on traffic pulse 11. over to you. >> thank you. taking a look at some of our top stories, firefighters are waging an aggressive ground and air assault against a california wildfire that has spread to 11 square miles and threatens a popular resort community. flames advance to within a quarter mile of the mountain resort community of wrightwood which is under mandatory evacuation. boy sunday afternoon firefighters were cautiously off the mistic about keeping the fire at bay. but officials stress the fight is far from over. a man accused of secretly videotaping an espn reporter while she was naked in her hotel room appeared in court yesterday. 48-year-old michael david barrett faces charges of i except state stalking for taking videos of espn sideline reporter erin andrews. bar wet was arrested friday night -- barrett was arrested

friday night. the individual years were taken through a modified peephole while andrews undressed in hotels. if convicted rbling he could face a maximum of five years in prison and a $2250,000 fine. -- $2r50,000 fine. the u.s. supreme court will convene with a new justice on the bench. some issues this year include corporate political spending, dogfighting videos, and a cross in the desert. the court will also hear several other cases with broad implications such as the second amendment right to self-defense. >> in this morning's "consumer alert," even as the unemployment rate inches closer to 10% many employers say they can't hire people to fill good paying jobs. business analysts say that's because of the types of workers being laid off aren't qualified to take on the types of jobs available. people in automotive and other

blue-collar industries get laid off. many businesses are still looking to hire accountants, health care workers, electrical engineers and software salesmen. an average. six people are competing for each job opening. some small businesses are working with state programs to keep workers on the payrolls. 17 states offer what are called work sharing programs. they allow employers to combine fewer work hours with partial unemployment benefits. for instance, companies could cut the employee back to 80% of their former hours, get 20% of what they would get in unemployment benefits. workers still get their benefits like health insurance and employers keep valuable employees. the downside is that it costs employers more nun employment insurance and employees could burn up much of their job loss protection as well. let's get the latest from wall street where one of the nation's largest banks is about to get a new c.e.o. jane king has that story and more. >> good morning. an emergency chief executive for the nation's largest bank

by deposits. bank of america. according to "the wall street journal" this week, b of a plans to appoint what's being called an emergency c.e.o. the paper says the contingency plan was already underway before lewis announced his retirement. bank of america did say it created a search committee to find a replacement. as for the market, stocks fell for a fourth straight session. employers cut more jobs than expected. and the bloomberg index shedding 12579%. -- 1.25%. a money manager says many americans are keeping up to 9% of their disposable income in the bank, the most since 1985. he says while these savings may hurt profits at retailers, they will make the expansion last longer by reducing household debt and the trade deficit. and vogs wagen is getting an american makeover.

the german automaker wants to appeal more to the american middle class by focusing on cup holders and entertainment systems. v.w. is also hoping for sales success with new larger and mid-sized sedans next year. volkswagen's new u.s. headquarters is on the other side of d.c. in herndon, virginia. at the new york stock exchange i'm jane king, bloomberg news for wbal-tv 11 news. >> cup holders. who would have ever thought? poet mia angelou wants you to know she was very much alive and well that after rumors began circulating after she was gravely ill. the 81-year-old says she is fine and she's quite disturbed. relatives as far away as europe and africa began to call her in tears to make sure she was still alive. she gained worldwide fame with her activism during the civil rights movement and for works like "i know why the caged bird sings."

me. it's all gone. everything's good. let's look at what's happening weatherwise. partly cloudy, upper 40's and low 50's. 49, b.w.i. 54 in hagerstown. temperatures should make it into the upper 60's and low 70's. a little bit cooler to the north. a little bit warmer to the south. when we come back, we'll take a look at the seven-day forecast. we have a little bit of rain to talk about. >> thank you, tony. our big story, the mifertry of a woman's nearly year-long disappearance has ended with the discovery of her body stuffed down a man hole. >> now police have the man they believe killed yealed vasquez. -- elda vasquez. jennifer franciotti has more on the story. >> according to charging documents, the victim was reported missing in howard county in january of 2008. and according to an internet website, her former boyfriend has confessed to the killing. the body was found here in the 500 block of benninghaus road. documents identified the victim as elda vasquez.

vasquez was reported missing in january of 2008. the missing person's release says she was last seen being dropped off by a taxi from one of her two jobs. back then this is what howard county police had to say. >> her roommates say she never came home that night. somewhere between being dropped off by the cab and entering the apartment she never made it. >> according to charging documents, vasquez's then boyfriend, 40-year-old victor hernandez crust has been arrested and -- cruz has been arrested and charged with murder. the report she's vasquez was granted a protective order against cruz. she also told investigators that cruz was stalking her and had threatened to kill her. less than two months later she was reported missing. charging documents say a detective from cruz's missing person's case recognized the address from the media reports and made a connection. the document also spells out

that while vasquez's body was badly decomposed investigators were able to i.d. the body throughout work uniform she was wearing and jewelry that vasquez still had on at the time. and according to the website, investigativevoice, wus worked at a t. gimplet fridays and allegedly confessed to police after being questioned. right now he is being held without bail. live downtown. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. an anne arundel county ploast police officer is recover -- police officer is recovering. not long after 6:00 saturday night the officer pulled over a driver just over the prince george's county line. during the stop authorities say some type of a struggle ensued, forcing the officer to fire on the driver. the officer was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. charges against the driver are pending. police say they questioned a person of interest in the

murder of a man found shot to death. an officer was patrolling massachusetts avenue around 2:30 saturday into p morning when he heard gun shots and then discovered the man's body. a dark gray chevy malibu was seen speed ago -- speeding away from the screen. >> a medic found himself in need of treatment. first spornedes responded to a call yesterday afternoon. while trying to treat the patient, authorities say the patient became combative and dislocated the paramedic's shoulder. so far no charges have been filed. m.t.a. police continue to investigate an accident involving a light rail train that injured three people. it happened saturday morning at the intersection of howard and lombard streets. officials believe the train may have dragged the car about 100 yards before coming to a stop. fire officials had to rescue plea people who had become entrapped. >> the shaky economy. for years the center offered

activities. but cutbacks may force the seniors to go someplace else. the senior center has a yearly operating budget of about $157,000. with $97,000 coming from baltimore city. that's been reduced to $12,000 because of the city's budget problems. city leaders say they're still seeking funds so the activities can continue. >> i can't say whether or not we can bail out the center's results of cuts that came from the state. but i want to look at figuring out a way to keep them open. >> if enough money can't be found to keep the center open it could close by the end of this mailbox -- month. >> good morning. tracking a few problem spots. we have an accident just coming in on the inner loop top side. right on that ramp that takes you to the inner loop, watch for an accident. we have fire department
