line. captain roy taylor live above the scene. >> this is the state park on the baltimore county side where the train runs through the park. baltimore county fire crews, howard county fire crews and city fire crews received a call of a train derailment. we've noticed about 10 cars that have jumped the track here. the product that appears to be leaking is nothing more than plastic. so there's no hasmut urgency at that location. c.s.x. is on the scene. they are dealing with it. in fact, baltimore county and howard county have put most of their equipment back in service. they've left some at the park to assist c.s.x. with any needs they may have. reporting live in sky team 11, i'm captain roy taylor.

>> if you've been outside this morning you may have noticed the temperatures have dropped off. we've been down in the low 40's. this morning we were in the mid 50's. first the satellite image and you can see we still have clouds over us. the main part has pulled off shore and the clouds are beginning to break up in maryland. now i'll put the radar in and we'll give you an idea of where there still is some rain. the biggest rains have moved off over the atlantic ocean. but we have some lingering showers still hanging back. basically from the bay eastward so most of this stuff is now falling from the i-95 corridor and points east. and it is pulling away from the area. earlier this morning out in far western maryland there were a couple flakes of snow associated with this. of course that's a sign that some colder air is coming in. that's what's going to get your attention overnight tonight especially. we'll talk about how the weekend will shape up in just a minute. >> the house of representatives sealed the deal on health care reform. last night's vote came after

hospitals that would generate under $10 million a year by charging hospitals up to a dollar a day for every bed they have. some question whether the tax should be put on institutions like hopkins which generate jobs. >> we're a real anchor for the city. so we have the large and small institutions trying to help individual citizens. and having a tough time doing it already. >> the mayor said that waving property and income taxes for nontroft cost the city $80 million a year. in annapolis the economy and job creation were the focus as the governor signed a trio of bills aimed at reviving the states lagging economy. the emergency legislation signed into law yesterday offered tax credits to maryland businesses that hire people off of unemployment and give a shot in the arm to the states depleted unemployment trust fund. that fund is also expected to get a boost from the federal government in the next 45 days. dozens of bills are being considered in annapolis during

this session. more than three dozen issues could be left for you to decide. currently 39 different possible amendments to the state constitution are under consideration. that means 39 potential issues could be on the november ballot. term limits to gay marriage. it's unsure how many proposals will be passed through and onto the ballot. 15 people have been indicted after police and federal agents raided more than a dozen different pawn shops in the baltimore area. federal prosecutors say 30 different locations were raided as part of their investigation into a $20 million money laundering scheme. it reveals little about the alleged scheme, only to say it involves the trafficking of stolen goods. neighbors say they were surprised to see the shops get raided. >> police activity all the time naturally in brooklyn. but over there, not really. you know, other than business in and out. normal pawn shop business. but i don't know of anything else. >> court documents identified

the lead department in the case as a 31-year-old from baltimore. he served two years in prison after pleading guilty to transportation of stolen property. and an annapolis pilot escaped injury after landing his small plane into a river. he reportedly told his rescuers his plane was running low on fuel as it approached the airport yesterday afternoon. causing him to ditch his single engine aircraft in the south river. he is resting at home after refusing medical treatment. the 11-year-old boy who was sfruck by a truck is recovering today. james join was crossing the street around 7:30 yesterday morning when he was struck. authorities do not expect to file any charges against the driver, saying the accident appears to be a case of pedestrian error. coming up, an alarming warning for virginia. this as a operator heads off the

there's no more rain off to the northwest so this stuff is slowly trailing out of the picture. let's look at the numbers right now we have for you. 42 degrees for you, 70% the humidity. the barometer rising. north wind, 15, gusting to 25 miles per hour and the showers are east of us now. they are a little lower because of all the rain. actually this includes yesterday to a great extent. so tree pollens at 60 which is in the moderate range, low to moderate range. right now, pollen count a little lower today because of all the rain we've had in the area. temperatures elsewhere around the region, annapolis 43, ocean city 46, crisp feels 41. so it cools down as you move to the northwest, like west minister at 39. we told you to wear something warm. 33 at mchenry right now. and only 32 at chicago, 28 green bay. bismarck's warm to 41, but only

25 up in international falls. there's some cold air coming in behind this weather system. the heaviest rains are off over the atlantic ocean. so do some lingering showers behind the system. low pressure center down in southeast virginia moving out to sea. and this colder air off high pressure coming in now. so we'll get a little spike of cold air. again march can do anything to us. we have a generally fair weather situation with high pressure out to the west. that's going to be our saturday weather. then sunday, this next storm out in the rockies comes in. so the rain chances come up again. today's forecast brings it colder, rain, maybe snowflakes tapering off. temperatures in the 40's. low 40's, they should tick there for a few hours and drop off into the 30's as we get deeper into the afternoon. future cast shows the rain stepping out of the area here and eventually some clearing skies as we go through evening hours. overnight, 25-32 for low.

students looking to be teachers. they are looking to hire its first teachers from the program next year. and in today's medical alert doctors report the first screening of an embryo that later became a newborn baby. she was six pounds at birth and is free of the disease. she was tested because both her father and grandmother have the disease. hospital officials say it's a scientific miracle. carla's parents were worried about having children because under normal circumstances their offspring would have a 50% chance of getting the disease. eggs were harvested before they were planted in carla's mother. when you think of strokes, usually adults are victims, but it can strike the young as very well. one quarter of victims are under 65. we're introduced to a survivor who is not a senior, but a

freshman. matthew is a typical teenager. likes riding his bike, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. >> i definitely was athletic. >> captain of the high school wrestling team, matthew was practicing with his teammates. >> all the sudden it just hit me. >> when something went terribly wrong. >> everything turned side ways. i got this profound sense of dizzyness, totally off balance. started vomiting. >> matthew was rushed to the hospital where doctors struggled with the diagnosis. >> we were terrified that something might happen. we wanted him to just make it through the night. >> he made it and the next morning an m.r.i. determined the healthy teen edger had suffered a stroke. >> i was surprised. when i think of strokes, i think of elderly people having a stroke. >> no one had ever heard of a kid my age ever having a stroke. >> but they do. in fact it affects 5,000-10,000

kids in the u.s. every year. >> the majority of children having strokes are previously healthy children that don't have any sort of underlined risk factor like that. >> one doctor says she's seen more and more child stroke patients and say most children will survive, but not without intense rehab. >> we often tell parents that it's going to be just like going back to that first year of extraordinarily difficult and painful for families to watch. >> the stroke left the star athlete unable to walk, but matthew was determined to overcome it. >> walking from one room to another is how it started. each day he would try to walk a little bit farther and then farther. >> and soon matthew was up and running. just two years later, matthew finished a triathelon. >> it was the best feeling i've ever had. >> and he's only just begun. >> matthew is now training for his next triathelon. he hopes the story will increase awareness that children do have strokes and early detection can be the key to a full recovery.
