>> thanks for joining us. let's get a check on weather and traffic this morning. it is already hot outside. >> the average temperature is 62. 70 degrees right now at the airport. 72 degrees downtown. 10 degrees warmer than the average high temperature already at 5:30 this morning. it is cooler in the suburbs. we are shooting for a high temperature of near 90 degrees this afternoon. mostly sunny skies. the record for today is 93. we will see if we can get there. we did break records the last couple of days. let's work for 93 so we can get a record. >> it was so nice to walk outside and not wear a jacket this morning.

i will take it over the snow any day. a pretty nice morning commute shaping up. one accident in anne arundel county. a street is closed in both directions with the downed wires at owings mills road. we got word of an accident on bel air past the route one exit. we will have the latest on that in our upcoming report if there are lane closures to report. here are live drive times for you. 16 minutes on 895 southbound between the 95. 95 at 395 things moving just fine in and out of the city. >> breaking news overnight. an electrical fire knocked out

water to an estimated 100,000 people in the baltimore area. >> flames broke out at a towns and pumping station. jennifer franciotti is live at the scene with more details. >> we are getting some new information. the fire did not take place at the pumping station. it happened at an underground line that affected a pole. is caught fire underground, raced up this pole and is now affecting the pumping station. here is the department of public works personnel. many people are without water this morning. >> yes, they are. about 150,000 people in a very large area. we are dealing with stevenson lane over to old harford road and falls road.

it is an enormous area. they will be out of water until bge gets the line fix. and did little bit after that, because it will take a few hours to get the system back up. >> schools, hospitals. >> the university. the whole area. anything within those boundaries is going to be impacted. there is not much we can do about that until bge gets the line up. they are telling us about 4:00 this afternoon and maybe three hours after that. we have been through so many water main breaks in power outages due to blizzards in major storms. we all know the view team right now. you have to keep water on hand, whether it is tap water, have a couple of refrigerated bottled waters. make sure you have that for

attention of lawmakers on capitol hill. some are calling for hearings into the matter. environmental groups are pushing for an alternative to coal. in a small community in west virginia, who, prayers, and a race against time to find four miners still missing in the explosion on monday. officials say it could take days to drill ventilation holes to clear dangerous gases build up inside the mind. >> you want to help them as fast as possible. >> it is highlighting the dangers of coal mining. >> thousands of people work and a ground every day. perhaps they become immune to the dangers. >> all coal mining has gotten safer, it is still a dangerous business. the explosion is one of the many factors that goes into a

decision on how to develop our energy resources. coal produces about half of our nation's electricity. green energy advocates say everyone should care about what happens here. >> anybody using electricity needs to be thinking that we get it from coal. every time they flip a light switch, they are causing cold to be burned. >> he is with the institute for market transformation. it is pushing for safer and cleaner energy alternatives that will mean retirement for coal plants. the ceo of the mine has been outspoken in his opposition to climate change legislation. he says democrats should support a bill. wbal-tv. > the u.s. army is pulling the welcome mat on several fast food restaurant operating at bases in afghanistan.

>> welcome back. it is 72 degrees already downtown at the maryland science center. no weather problems on your way to work or school this wednesday. it will be a war oncm one, a feg like summer. 70 at the airport. the forecast for today, a mixture of sunshine and cloud. it'll be hot, but not humid. that is a good thing. the high temperature is expected to be around 90 degrees. we will check the seven-day forecast when i come back in a few minutes. over to the news desk. >> if you suffer from weight problems, it could be linked to a psychological problem.

if you tend to give a lot to others, you may not be focusing enough time on yourself and using food to do so. they stress can take a toll. it could increase the risk of obesity. take 30 minutes a day to relax. >> women could lower their risk of stroke by walking. if they walk two more hours a week, they reduce their risk for a stroke. if they walk at a brisk pace, they are 37 percent of less at risk. this did not apply to men. but they can break out the speakers today for the american heart association it is in -- encouraging people to get out and walk for 30 minutes. physical inactivity doubles the risk for heart disease.

92 degrees. the temperatures of staying around 60 degrees in most locations. things will change tomorrow. the cold front will approach late in the afternoon. but thursday evening, a good chance for thunderstorms. a strong cold front will sweep through in the evening. it will drop temperatures 30 degrees by the time we get to the weekend. the orioles' home opener is on friday. 80 on thursday before the rain comes in. rain thursday night into friday morning. the first pitch is at 3:00. we should be ok at game time. high temperatures around 60 degrees. drive this weekend with a high near 59 saturday. 64 sunday. by tuesday of next week, at near 70 degrees. >> thanks.
