the state's pre release -- robert case was an inmate of the state's pre release program. he has been found guilty of the theft and sale of two police pistols. and the heart can't -- a howard county man was sentenced to 20 years for abusing his 2-year-old niece. he was convicted on charges of child abuse, assault, and leaving a child unattended. in 2008, he admitted to leaving his knees in what he says was lukewarm water after she filled her diaper. but he returned to find her screaming, immersed in scalding hot water. she suffered second and third degree burns. cuts so far this week, it has felt like -- >> so far this week it has felt like summertime. you can see streets of lightning coming across western maryland

one said, i saw the little girl drop in the middle of the street. another witness who was supposed to be in court did not show up. >> shares deputies placed her in handcuffs and marched her back to court. she's a witness in the attempted murder trial. and also the door front of the defendant -- girlfriend of the defendant. but apparently the warning meant nothing. she was a no show on wednesday. a spokesman for the state's attorney's office will not talk about the specific case, but said all kinds of obstacles have arisen before and during drought. -- trial. >> [unintelligible] >> now, several witnesses are

missing in the trial of 17-year- old lamont davis, including maurice powell. one person told the jurors that he admitted that he thought he shot the little girl. prosecutors say he was the intended target. and cromwell who was there that day, testified that she got highly upset. she said, i'm going to fix you. i've got somebody for you. cromwell says davis left the area and came back with a gun. cromwell said davis had begun in his left pocket and took it out of his left pocket and put it in his right hand. cromwell also said he heard about five shots. when the little girl fell down

the street it was like she was still running. she was lying down, but her feet were still moving. i ran over to the little girl, he said, she was trying to run. he became emotional and said she was asking him to help her. krul could not pick out his picture from the photo array and said he -- cromwell said he could not pick up the shooter from the photo of great pictures. he sailamont davis said he was t there at the time of the shooting and that he was at home in an electronic monitoring device. >> police have released the names of two of the three people that were killed in a car crash in anne arundel county last night. 26-year-old jessica rae and 56- year-old justin matthews.

police say rhey was driving the pickup truck that crossed the center line and crashed into matthews' suv, causing it to catch art -- catch fire. the fire started on the third four of an apartment complex on araisa avenue. that was just after 9:00 p.m. last night. a firefighter fell from the second building -- the second floor of the building and suffered burns to his hands. water services back to normal for about 200,000 customers affected by the massive power outage in baltimore county yesterday. the conduit fire damage to the toes and pumping station. the result was low water pressure and no water at all for some residents.

what will the test tube -- what if a test could tell you if you are at higher risk? researchers have developed a test that identifies it a particular gene. the scientists found a drug to reverse this blaze appeared -- displyasia. and a new study from the cdc says raising ticket -- a cigarette prices and taxes is one of the most influential tobacco control programs. studies show that increasing the price by 10% can lower consumption by 4%. it can also keep others from picking up the habit. some states have raised the taxes and others have lost said at a minimum price. -- laws set at a minimum price.

>> a diplomat from the car involved in a security scare on an american airlines flight has been -- from quatar involved in a security scare american airlines flight has been released. he tried to smoke a cigarette in the bathroom and win it was discovered he joked about trying to light his shoes on fire. he was escorted from the plane and no explosives were found. he will likely not face any charges. and passengers had to wait outside terminal while officials search for the man who did not properly go through screening.

officials did find him on board his plane. he was screened. nothing dangerous was found. >> still ahead, missing miners in west virginia. right now, rescuers are waiting to resume their mission after efforts were put on hold early this morning when the air quality in the mine was deemed too dangerous. >> too much methane in the mind meant more drilling and pumping as rescue teams beat a hasty retreat. 32 rescuers had gotten the green light overnight and headed into miles to go. but back on surface, technicians were giving getting bad -- technicians were getting bad readings. the air had turned explosive, too much methane. officials worried about another blast like the one that killed 25 men monday and they pulled the rescue teams 500 feet short of their goal.

>> not guilty, that is the plea for three teenage girls accused of delaying a girl to the point of suicide. they did not appear in court. they have been ordered to have no contact with the family of fifi prints. the girl, -- phoebe prince. mark carrigan fought with his father near the family home in boston on january 24 just before his father collapsed. an autopsy showed he had a pre- existing heart condition. the family said they do not blame mark for daniel's death. an accident happened near bayville, ky.

americans. according to a career builders' survey, more than half of workers say they will use their tax return to pay off bills. also, nearly eight out of every 10 workers said their living paycheck to paycheck. that is up 61% just from six months earlier. a career builder spokesperson says it is due to the ripple effects of the recent downturn in the economy. despite credit card reforms coming down the line, there are still few regulations for many programs. that means companies can take back rewards. if you cannot use those points yourself, they can be transferred to a family member or others, or may be donated. there are also bordering websites to trade. with other card holders. -- bordering websites to trade points with other card holders.
