they gathered a few blocks from city hall to stand up to the public safety funding they strongly believe this city needs. just a few weeks ago, mayor stephanie rawlings-blake announced her doomsday budget that included drastic cuts to police, fire, personnel and services. there was great concern over jobs and pensions. >> the cut had already been announced in the preliminary budget and a neighbor rather deep and wide. it is our understanding if the mayor's revenue proposal passes either in whole or in part, then that will mitigate some of the cuts to our department. we're in support of that. >> the mayor came out with her initial budget in which she called for those cuts. and now she came forward with the split decision today where she hopes to offset those cuts with another package. but nothing is written in stone. >> it was billed at first as a

protest, but morphed into a show of support for the mayor's plan. it comes with a big string attached, it has to pass through the city council. >> we know now what the mayors revenue package includes. i think we have a sense of how that would assist our department. we hope that we can support up -- support the mayor's package. we hope that we can count on the council to do the same. that remains to be seen. >> the revenue package will probably offset that, but there's no guarantee. the city council has to vote on it. we think it is important to rally and reminded citizens that we are sure to serve them and make sure that they are safe. >> and that is exactly what we will see the police and fire unions continued to have the
