991 people turned themselves in as part of the fugitives safe surrender. this originated in cleveland five years ago. offenders can turn themselves and and be granted favorable consideration. the city council will have one more opportunity to look at the bottle tax proposal. they need to raise millions of dollars to keep city programs and jobs buffalo. it did not pass last week. it is to be reconsidered tonight, it will have to be reintroduced tonight. >> an accident over father's day weekend -- fire crews arrived just before 6:00 p.m. last night. a gas grill it ignited the fire.

the red cross has found temporary housing for the affected residents. in number of speed -- the number of speed cameras is about to double in dundalk. the new cameras will be located there lansdowne high school and near the laney high school. they became operational about five minutes ago. warnings will be issued for the first 30 days. >> the search for a man in howard county has ended happily. police found the 42-year-old city in a yard in colombia. it is about a mile from the group hold he wandered away from onset of a. he was taken away to a hospital for evaluation and appears to be in good condition. >> matthew evans was convicted

of stabbing anthony conaway. prosecutors charged evans with first-degree murder and conspiracy. >> the husband of a frederick woman is claiming police misconduct. the man believes authorities should have entered the home sooner. veronica perkins was killed last thursday after police barricaded her home. a trooper fired several shots when a gun was pointed at the police officer. police say the incident remains under investigation. >> it is day 63 of the oil leak in the gulf of mexico. bp may have underestimated the amount of oil coming out of the well.

we turn to kate amara in our washington bureau. >> a democratic congressman said the new document raises a new question -- was the oil spill much worse than bp let on? 4 million gallons of oil could pour out of the deep seat well each day, according to an internal document released by ed markey. he says it is more proof that bp has not been honest with the public. >> they should have known from the beginning. they delayed a full response to the magnitude of this disaster. >> bp officials say this would only apply if the blowout preventer was removed. the company said it was making progress on one of two relief wells, which they believe is the

best chance to stop the oil spill. bp says it has spent $2 billion responding to the spill. the cost continues to climb as the spill continues to spread. tar balls washed up on florida beaches near panama city. bp has been asked to prepare a new contingency plan. kate amara, wbal-tv 11 news. >> 38 pelicans have been released back into the wild. 192 brown pelicans have been taken from the louisiana coast coated with oil. 80% of those rescued can be saved and reintroduced into the wild. the hope is that the texas

habitat will be a safe haven from them from the spill. millions of process raw sewage seeped away into the biscayne bay saturday morning. people were warned to stay out of the water. test results should confirm the severity of the contamination. >> kids are notoriously picky eaters. marketing and commercials can be influencing their tastes. a study found that children overwhelmingly would choose a product if packaging featured a licensed cartoon character, like the explorer.xplora that brings us to our watercooler question of the day. do you think limits should be placed on cartoon characters to market junk food?

threatened. police have arrested a man in connection with the first wildfire. they say he was negligent in disposing of some hot coals. 19 people were injured after a fire on a subway. most injuries were related to smoke inhalation. last july, means materials in the subway station caught fire. 20 people are dead, over 50,000 are homeless after the was flooding in brazil. the region has received 14 inches of rain. flooding killed at least 44 people while leaving thousands homeless in the same area. >> most of general motors workers will not get a summer

break. the automaker has been forced to shut down over the summer because of low orders. but customer demand is up. gm is aiming for an additional 56,000 vehicles to be produced. for verizon is offering data plans. verizon is expecting a big jump in dated usage as new smart phones entered the market. this is up about 17% from today. the amount of money bp needs to spend climbs each day. jane king has that story in the bloomberg business report. >> bp said the cost of the oil spill has reached about $2 billion. $33 million a day.

spending is sure to escalate. seeing bp stock falling in london trading this morning. nordstrom rack plans to open another store in the area this summer. a new store will be opened in the annapolis harbor center. the only other nordstrom racks are in maryland. it will hire about 70 people. trading finished on friday in the green. the bloomberg maryland index moved slightly higher. new jersey is fighting back. residents and businesses are tired of all the jokes. they have started a website to rally those who are tired about all the put downs from pollution to political corruption.

trial. two men were convicted of killing brian jones. >> we have learned today that this kid was overturned as a result of a decision the court made in front of the jury. that would mean prosecutors would have to move forward with the new trial. >> the court of appeals sided the suggested language during the trial indicating the judge asked potential jurors if they would be able to convict the pair even without scientific evidence. the manhunt for a suspect wrapped up over the weekend. brian hill was on the run after he fled when is a gun jammed firing and a deputy at a traffic spot. he faces several charges including attempted murder.
