we cannot declare a winner just yet. >> that's just one of several races we are following tight. we are watching the state's attorney's race as we followed developments with the baltimore county executive's race. we have details on what is next in the rematch for maryland governor. >> we begin with the state's attorney's race. with 100% of the precincts reporting, patricia jessamy is trailing gregg bernstein by less than 1300 votes. let's go live to the city board of elections for the latest. >> those final numbers from the precinct came in just before 4:30 this afternoon. about 25 minutes ago, the campaign for gregg bernstein issued the following statement -- we are pleased to see the final results are consistent with the voting trends we observe all day yesterday. i again thank all of the volunteers to have devoted so much time and energy to helping

our campaign. not exactly a victory statement. we will hear more about that in just a second. but it has been a very long day to get to this point of having all the votes counted. here is what happened. it took a full 20 hours after the polls closed in the city state's attorney's race. but finally this afternoon, election officials reported results from all 100% of the city's precincts. the final round of voting did not change the landscape of the race. gregg bernstein who announced his challenge to pick patricia jessamy just a month ago maintained the lead of 1290 votes. the final tally took so long because votes of 3% of the city's precincts were temporarily lost according to officials, some people neglected to turn in the memory cards from the voting machines after the polls closed. the machines were spread across

12 polling stations. officials spent a tracking down and recording results. officials say there was nothing fishy about the problem, just sloppy accounting that would not have gotten attention if the rates were not so close. >> when you have an election, it is not uncommon to not be at 100% within 24 hours. >> i was talking with election board officials today and they say you have to go all the way back to 1987 to get a citywide race this close. that was the race between kurt smoke and do burns for mayor, that as swayback. we were also focus on what was going on that the loss in transition which normally doesn't get much transition certainly did today. as for the absentee ballots, 2198 of them. at this moment, more could come in the mail tomorrow, that begins at 10:00 tomorrow.

>> kevin kamenetz is the nominee for baltimore county executive. joe bartenfelder conceded the race this morning and thank his supporters. our team coverage concede -- our team coverage continues now. >> the voting machine problems the latest bit here -- to lead the victory speech for kevin kamenetz this morning. his bid is already getting interesting things to the man he just beat and thanks to the man he wants to beat. [applause] the race for a new baltimore county executive the set. the republican can hold against democrat kevin kamenetz, if finally made his primary win official, addressing supporters to help him address joe bartenfelder by some 5000 votes. >> at the end of the game, you shake hands, say good game and move forward. my hand is out and extend it to joe. >> he called for a united

democratic party. but in a concession statement and in a voice mail, joe bartenfelder made mention of an endorsement. -- i would like to thank all of my supporters, friends and families to help out. i'm proud of the campaign we ran focused on the issues concerned -- of concern to baltimore county citizens. the republican candidate is already attacking kevin kamenetz for his attack ads, calling it an ugly campaign. >> it was pretty ugly when you get exploding oil spill in the chesapeake bay in males implying that joe bartenfelder was responsible for it or in some way interested in limiting the liability. >> the issue on most voters' minds is the economy. holt will in the size his business background and his work at morgan stanley. kevin kamenetz says he will run on his experience in government. >> promote economic development, create jobs, get the -- the

county moving. >> i do believe we are going to see a republican wave that will hit baltimore county on november 2nd. >> he admits that in order to ride the wave, he will be a lot of help in west baltimore county. kevin kamenetz is very popular there. he says expect to see him there a lot over the next month or so. >> the results of the primary fuel their rematch between martin o'malley and bob are like. they both have ambitious schedules leading up to november. we caught up with both campaigns today. >> perception rules in politics and voters does much of the difference between the two men treat they combine both have raised taxes and both look out for their parties' interests. between now and november, the campaign will be sharpening contrast, many more tv

consider the economy the number one issue in the state. the same poll suggests if the economy does not improve by november, it is ehrlich's game. >> need to court conservative democrats and independents. he has to have his base, the republican base and he has to do well in baltimore county. >> baltimore county is considered the battleground. it's no quince and they're watching kids should table discussions starting in baltimore county. this is a race where every vote counts. after tallying all the ballots in the primary, ehrlich's 100,000 votes shy of victory. the tea party candidate, brian murphy, capture 24% thanks to an endorsement from sarah palin. experts say the number is insignificant. murphy is throwing his support behind the nominee, even though he is distancing himself from the tee party. >> it is more libertarian in

nature and has a proven crossover. >> he releases his new television ad tomorrow at 5:00 in the morning. governor of ballet sets around with some of the market county bombs in the afternoon. ehrlich plans to release policy initiatives to make maryland more business friendly. >> for the latest results on the races here in maryland, is it the politics page of wbaltv.com. >> in tonight's "education alert" -- teachers in and around the county are picketing over a contract was approved but never funded. they were promised a 1% raise and that increases but say the county executive and county council member put that money in the budget. they are criticizing a pay raise given to the county school superintendent. tonight, teachers are hoping to be heard on both issues.

>> a suspect is still on the loose tonight after an attempted robbery at a pharmacy around

3:30 this afternoon. and have happened near the intersection of lock haven and northern parkway. police say a special police officer was working in the area when he noticed a robbery. shots were fired but no one was hurt. one suspect was taken into custody and another is on the run. and howard county high school was placed on locked out after a body was found in the area of the school's campus. at about 7:00, students and faculty were told to stay inside while police investigated. this school is in the 6100 block of old dobbin lane in colombia. the body had not been identified. jurors listened to testified -- listened to testimony in the death of former councilman, ken harris. >> new haven lounge workers testified today. one witness said he thought the robbery was some kind of joke. he quickly realized that he, his

co-workers and his boss were in serious trouble. the new haven lounged on wrapped up his testimony quickly. they also are from 8 are manager and employee. all described the terror they felt in 2008 when the thieves robbed the jazz club. three men are charged with the robbery and also charged in the shooting and murder of a former baltimore city councilman, ken harris, who attempted to drive away. prosecutors had warned jurors at the crime occurred two years ago and people may have different recollections of what they saw and heard. the defense attorney believes there are three different crime scenes -- the car where his body was found, the entrance to the bar and inside the bar. >> the state to this point had not correct -- and not connected the crime scene of the automobile to the crimes that front of the bar to the crime scene inside the bar which gets back to all of these assumptions. everyone is assuming the people

out front of the bar were the people inside of the bar where the people to at some point lead behind the bar and i do not agree with those assumptions. >> the defense got into a verbal disagreement over the number of shots fired in the bar. he declared he did not want these boys convicted on assumptions. their lives are at stake. he responded he did not know if it were the boys. one of them wore a mask and the others partially covered their faces. the club's owner testified he got his gun and fired three shots as the robbers ran out of back door, telling jurors there were three robbers. the defense challenge them, saying in a statement, that for men announced the robbery. the city was personally terrified, saying "i needed mistake, i made a terrible mistake. i miscounted." >> i think they are all deeply interested in this case because they were all heard when mr. harris was killed and they are

all interested in making sure justice is done. >> a warning from the judge today who said he has received reports some people in the courtroom are trying to interact with the jury. he said he is warning against that and anyone who tries to do that will be barred from the courtroom. >> the midway point in the month of september and summer is hanging on with normal land -- warmer than normal temperatures hanging on. five degrees above the normal high of 79. we hit 84 officially and it was a big swing from the early morning note -- early morning low of 53. a good turnaround from a cool morning to a warm afternoon trade 77 in parkville. 76 toward white marsh. on the eastern shore, temperatures in the upper 70's.

hurricane has faded a little. you can see those cycles as well as find and then it comes back. winds at 135 miles an hour at the center of the storm. for awhile, julia was a category 4 hurricane -- the first time since 1926 there have been for -- have been to category 4 storm is in the lead at the same time. the tropical storm in the yucatan is not expected to get much stronger. all eyes are on igor. it's expected to move toward bermuda this weekend, getting their late in the afternoon on sunday. it might be a category two or three hurricane as it passes into bermuda. it could be a threat to that tiny island in the atlantic. around here, a chance for a shower or storm tomorrow evening then back to dry weather. low 80s on sunday, and '70s on monday and tuesday.
