a smooth ride as you head down to washington. a look at the topside, this is by exit 24. you can say the inner and outer loops are moving just fine. this is the beltway at frederick road. 95 is checking out ok. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. back over to you. >> tragedy strikes one of the most unlikely of places. it is typically considered a safe haven. >> the man opened fire at one of the most respected places in the nation, johns hopkins hospital. he shot a doctor. jennifer franciotti is live outside johns hopkins with details. what is the latest? >> the gunman has been identified as paul pardus from virginia. he got upset after receiving some medical information about

his mother. he pulled out a gun and shot a doctor. that doctor has been identified as dr. david cohen. after the shooting, security called police who responded with a variety of other agencies. they prodded swat teams. pardus was barricaded inside the room with his mother who was confined to a hospital bed. at one point, parts of the hospital were evacuated. police learned something had happened inside the room. they went in to find pardus dead from single gunshot wounds to the head. >> at this point, we're treating this case as a murder suicide. >> as far as dr. cohen is

anne arundel county. this happened on saturday morning. this was an odenton. the victim was dragged into the woods and sexually assaulted. if you have any information on this case, you are urged to call anne arundel county police. >> two people are waking up behind bars after being accused of holding a woman against her will. germaine smith-bey and kimberly stacy king are charged with attempted murder. it was reported that two picked up a woman in baltimore city. we're told she was coherent. she was driven to gmc. but she slipped into a coma. >> on september 9, the victim awoke from the coma and was able to talk to police investigators.

she said that for the past year, she had been held captive in an apartment in reisterstown and that she had been beaten over that time by the suspects in this case. >> police say the suspects kept the woman locked inside a bathroom in reisterstown where she was only fed two to three times a week. the victim is listed in critical condition. for more on this case, log onto our website, wbaltv.com. >> the search for an escaped inmate has come to an end. there were arrested without incident in washington state. police say paul palmer made up a medical injury to break free from hand restraints on friday. he now faces additional charges.

gina distefano faces charges of harboring a fugitive. two men held up a pharmacy on wednesday. police arrived on the scene after a guard fired several shots at the suspects. the names have not been released. >> now to a project report. what can you do in just two seconds? >> teenagers are asked to take that amount of time. we have more from kate amara. >> good morning. the government -- >> take two seconds to turn off your cell phone and take control of your safety before getting

behind the wheel. young drivers are being asked to make that pledge today. >> for every two seconds you take your eyes from the road, you double your crash risk. you can injure or kill somebody. >> 86% of teenagers have driven while distracted even though 84% know it is dangerous. >> put down your cell phone. teenagers feel that they cannot multitask and do both. they cannot. >> more than 1/3 of teenage drivers have nearly crashed because of distracted driving. >> the percentages are off the charts with other teenagers in cars. >> this date may be targeted two teenagers, but it is a reminder to all drivers.
