66 on the northeast corner. 65 on the topside of the beltway. 58 on the west side of the beltway. no delays. 11 minutes on the outer loop topside from 95 to 83. eight minutes between the harbor tunnel toll plaza and 95, 9 minutes. looking at no delays at all. this is that old court road. very light volume for this time of the morning. 95 north of the beltway, you can see stop on traffic is a little heavier northbound. no delays just yet. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> things will try to return to normal at johns hopkins hospital following yesterday's deadly triple shooting. >> jennifer franciotti is live

with more on the story. >> there was a police tape yesterday. it will try to be business as usual today. paul pardus is the suspect. he was upset after receiving medical information about his mother. he pulled out a gun and shot the doctor. that doctor has been identified as dr. david cohen, a spinal surgeon at the hospital. we will have more on his condition in a moment. security called city police who responded with a variety of other agencies, including swat teams. for more than two hours, pardus was barricaded in a room with his mother in the nelson building. at one point, parts of the hospital were evaluated. police learned something had happened inside the room.

they went in to find pardus and his mother were dead from single gunshot wounds to the head. >> at this point we're treating this case as a murder-suicides. >> as for dr. cohen, spent much of the day in surgery for a gunshot wound. we do not have an update on his condition. the big question right now, how could a government get inside the hospital? we will have more answers for that coming up later. reporting live, jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. that brings us to our water cooler question of the day. what changes, if any, do you think need to be done to johns hopkins security? e-mail your response to watercooler@wbaltv.com. again, that is watercooler@wbaltv.com. >> an amazing story or a man and woman are accused of holding a woman captive for nearly a year.

germaine smith-bey and kimberly stacy king are charged with attempted murder and assault. authorities say they kept a disabled woman locked up in a bathroom for nine months while they collected hurt disability checks. the victim was starved and beaten so badly that she slipped into a coma. >> the victim suffered from multiple injuries, everything from her eyes and her ribs to her having a fracture tailbone to her having multiple bruises and scratches and cuts, including her upper lip even been damaged. >> police say the unidentified victim is in critical condition while her child is in custody of social services.

meanwhile, the suspects are being held without bail. three suspects are believed to up sexually assaulted a woman in ocean town. this happened last saturday afternoon. the victim claimed she was dragged into the woods and sexually assaulted. anyone with information should call anne arundel county police. >> prosecutors will continue to lay out their case against three men accused of killing ken harris later today. testimony yesterday focused on dna and fingerprint evidence. the defense attorneys are casting doubt on the chain of custody of the evidence. >> we have several different crime scenes. to try to take evidence from one crime scene and relate it to

other crime scene to prove the identity of the perpetrator at several crime scenes is problematic. i have problems with the way the evidence was recovered and the way it was processed. >> testimony will resume later today. >> here we york three days after the primary election and there is no declared winner in the race for city state's attorney. gregg bernstein has increased his lead over patricia jessamy by over 1300 votes. some of the supporters have begun calling on patricia jessamy to can see. >> some people are looking for some finality with this. we would hope that ms. jessamy would can see and recognize the -- would canoncede.

>> lawyers continue to scrutinize the results asking for a guarantee that the verification process will be conducted in public. maryland voters stayed away from the polls in record numbers. voter turnout statewide was that just 24% for the entire process, including early voting. that is the lowest since records began being capped. 21.6% of that was on election day. but permit county have the lowest turnout with just 18%. 40% of garrett counties showed up at the polls, the highest in the state. bob ehrlich has released a new tv ad and started hitting the airwaves yesterday.

no wind advisory -- no small- craft advisory. the record low is 44. we're just a little bit above the seasonal norm and we'll be right on target for the overnight low. 55 to about 62 downtown. a great night tonight. we have a front draped across the area. it will be well off shore by this afternoon. low pressure is moving through. new york sort tornado-like winds. it will be nice and dry for the duration. bermuda it is in for it this weekend. igor has lost some intensity. it is a category 3. 125 miles per hour winds. julie it is not too oppressive

in context, 85 miles per hour sustained winds. but bermuda it is in the line of fire. it looks like plenty of sunshine tomorrow and sunday. the heat returns as we search into the mid 80's with more moisture by the middle part of next week. >> we have picked up a couple of reports in the city. we're checking one at liberty heights. there's a report of an accident in jessup. a few things to watch out for. major roadways are checking out fine. 11 minutes on the outer loop west side. 95 north, but six minutes. 60 minutes between the 95. no delays on the major roadways. this is the topside of the beltway. things are moving just fine on the inner and outer loops. this is 95 in the northeast

corner and is looking good. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> the final steps to seal off the blowout will well could begin as soon as this weekend -- well.owout will weloil top kill process could start as early as sunday. police say a woman who claimed she was the victim of an acid attack made the whole thing up. the woman told police a woman approached her and for a cup of acid in her face. after looking into the discrepancy, police say she admitted to them she made the whole story up and that her burns were self-inflicted. it is not clear what she would burn herself in such a way. sudden storms blew through new york city and being blamed for one death.

tornado warnings were issued as winds gusted up to 100 miles per hour ripping off roofs and bringing down trees. tens of thousands of businesses were left without power. >> community college's are seeing unprecedented demand. enrollment has soared for schools that cater to two-year degree programs. administrators are struggling coping. some have cut courses. others are offering more core class is to meet the growing demand. you might want to hit the museum. more than 1300 museums will offer free admission on saturday, september 25, to celebrate the museum of day. you cannot download a ticket from the smithsonian.com website

of sunshine. >> thank you. the deadly shooting yesterday has left many wondering how something like this could happen. >> some are taking a look at the security at johns hopkins. jennifer franciotti joins us live with more on the story. >> it is what everybody will be talking about tonight inside johns hopkins hospital. how a gunman was able to get inside one of the best hospitals in the world. swat teams swarmed johns hopkins following reports that somebody had shot a doctor and barricaded himself inside the nelson building. the suspect was originally identified as warren davis. >> the doctor collapsed outside of the room. mr. davis was last seen running

into the room brandishing the handgun in the direction of his mother, who is confined to the bed. >> police later said davis' real name is paul pardus. parts of the hospital were evacuated and were on lockdown. police entered the room to find pardus and his mother dead from single gunshot wounds to the head. >> at this point we're treating this case as a murder-suicides. >> how was somebody able to get inside johns hopkins with a gun? he got a visitor's wristband just like any other visitor. he was not searched for weapons. there are no metal detectors in any of the exits or entrances. >> put a magnetometer at 80 doors and the required armed

force that would need to be staffing the magnetometers is not realistic. >> that was the vice president of security who also told us that the issue about 80,000 wristbands' a week. that shows the sheer magnitude of visitors. he knows of only one or two hospitals that have magnetometers and they are not located on the east coast. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> the search is over for a man who escaped police custody. paul palmer and gina distefano were arrested without incident. police say palmer is a suspect charged in august stabbing. he now faces additional charges. gina distefano faces charges of harboring a fugitive. police have tracked down a man in connection with a pharmacy

robbery. the first of the suspect was apprehended within minutes. the other suspects fled the scene but was picked up by police yesterday. >> union officials say over 1000 workers could be laid off as planned orders plan to idle the facility for the rest of the year. sparrows point and a plant in michigan will remain dormant until conditions improve. plans to sell the plants along with a third one, but they did not comment on that report. what can you do in just two seconds? teenagers are being asked to take that time to steer clear of distractions while driving. kate amara has more. good morning. >> the federal government is teaming up with aaa the latest

city, both involving northern parkway. we have picked up the report of an accident on the northbound jfx at northern parkway. washington boulevard is shut down in jessup, blocking all lanes because of an accident. police are directing traffic there in howard county. this is the west side of the beltway at liberty road. no volume related delays just yet. this is 95 at caton avenue. moving just fine north and southbound. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> we are tracking those showers and storms that rolled through last night. a front is draped across the chesapeake bay right now. high pressure can built-in behind it. it will feel cooler than the actual temperature reading. it is pretty mild and he but downtown.

68 downtown. 66 at the airport. upper 60's to near 70 in some locations. in the mountains, there's a slight chance for showers. mid 60's's. in baltimore, we will be in the low 80's after a high yesterday of 86 degrees before the clouds came in. the wind is that of the northwest and move it up to 25 miles per hour. as we take a look at the lower eastern shore, plenty of sunshine down there. another gorgeous beach day. no problems if you plan to take a boat out. 5 to 15 knots the waves will be one to 2 feet. this is a transitional time of the year, the last few days of

the summer season where we can be hot or comfortable. tonight we will split the difference and beat near normal. 55 in the outlying areas. mostly clear skies and the stars will be twinkling across the city. we have the movement of this front off shore. the difference in the pressure as the hype starts to build and that will create the wind in the wake of the front. the wind is turning at 125 miles per hour with a category 3 hurricane, still on line to affect bermuda in a big way. you will hear about this is a big way. julia is behind it and is a category 2 storm. we will be beautiful here all weekend long. 80 on saturday and 82 on sunday.
