a teenager lost his life in harford county. 14-year-old joseph paul d'entremont was hit on route 24 and forest hill. he was in the cross walk. when there was a no crossing signal. he was taken to the hospital and later died. police say the driver, a 19-year-old robin monaco, stayed at the scene. there's no word this morning if any charges will be filed. >> three schools are closed this morning due to a weekend water main break in anne arundel county. the chesapeake high school, chesapeake bay middle school, and folger mckinsey elementary and chesapeake bay middle school will all be closed today. they are expected to reopen tomorrow. this morning, the final clean-up is underway at the spill site in the gulf of mexico after the well is successfully sealed. the teams will be able to leave. >> but for many along the coast, the fight against the oil continues. today it will stretch all the way to washington. 1 news reporter jay gray

explains from venice, louisiana. >> it began april 20 with a massive fireball and deadly flames cutting through the night air. as the dead water horizon rig exploded and collapsed, 11 lives were lost. oil began to seep into the gulf, the start of the worst spill in u.s. history. now, 154 days later, government scientists say the final seal, 74 barrels of cement, is holding tight, and that the well will never leak again. president obama acknowledged the work that's been done and perhaps the more difficult job that lies ahead. in a written statement, which says in part, we will continue to work closely with the people of the gulf to rebuild their livelihoods and restore the environment that supports them. my administration will see our community, our businesses, and our fragile ecosystem through this difficult time. difficulties that continue to wash up along the gulf coast. clean-up teams fight every day,

but it seems right now, the oil is winning the battle there. >> we can't fix this on our own. we can't rebuild this on our own. we need help from the whole country. i mean, really. we need everybody. >> jay gray reporting for wbal-tv 11 news. >> the parents of a 6-year-old say their daughter was dismissed from a michigan cheering squad after they complained about what they consider to be inappropriate words in one of the cheers. jennifer tesch says she was shocked when they are daughter kennedy came home from classes, demonstrated the routine. tesch says when she went to the coach and general manager to express her concern, she got the runaround. oovept we'll, managers of the detroit-area cheerleading squad reportedly removed the girl from the squad, adding they are keeping the 20-year-old cheer. >> and the lyrics are, our backs ache, our skirts are too tight, we shack our booties from left to right. and at that point, i was just kind of in shock, and right away the next day i addressed it with the coach and the

>> welcome back. the time is coming up on 40 minutes after 5:00. a quiet monday morning. a few clouds hanging around. 69 degrees officially at the maryland science center downtown baltimore. it's a little bit cooler in the suburbs, but i think we consider this a relatively mild morning right now. let's take a look at some of the other numbers out there. north and west of town, it's dropped into the low 60's. but as you know, this time of the year it can easily be in the 40's and 50's, and it will be overnight tonight. so this afternoon, after our mild start, we'll make it into the upper 70's, a mix of sun and clouds. it will be a little bit breezy, but all in all, a nice day on tap for us. when we come back, we'll take a look at the seven-day forecast. for now, over to the news desk. >> in this morning's medical alert, a new study finds a possible link between a common virus and childhood obesity. virus number 36 infects still cells in the body, turning them into fat. in this study of more than 100 children, researchers at u.c.

san diego found 15% of the kids had the virus 36. the majority of these kids were obese. within the group of obese children, those with an 36 infection weighed an average of 35 pounds more than obese kids without the obese infection. interesting. >> meanwhile, another report finds bare at rick surgery for weight loss is gaining popularity among teens. surgeries increase seven-fold. girls made up 65% of bariatric procedures during the study period, an though they only represented less than a third of overweight teens and young adults. >> the time is now 5:41, 66 degrees on tv hill. coming up later in the show -- keith mills will join us with reaction to yesterday's ravens loss. >> and we are live in northeast baltimore, and we're making,

critically ill, and their families. more on that in a moment. but first, we got to tell what you we're cooking. this is basically a tomato crayfish scramble. jeremy price, you cook here. what is going into this thing? >> we're starting with a crayfish corn and tomato salad, and we're going to add eggs, jasmine rice, some greens, and some cheese, and start it right now. >> while jeremy cooks, i'm going to talk to tom. tell us about movable feast. i mention you help people and get meals to them if they're critically ill. >> we're a 21-year-old program in baltimore. we're the only program that delivers home cooked meals to individuals who are critically ill. a lot of our cloonts have h.i.v., and that's why originally we were founded. we've since expanded our mission to people with aids, people with breast cancer, people who have other life-threatening conditions who aren't able to get out of their homes to go shopping or not well enough to prepare their meals or just don't have the resources also to make sure that they have nutritious meals each day. >> this is aing about financed

it's relatively mild to start out in the 60's. as you know, it can easily be in the 40's and 50's. big area of high pressure dropping down out of the great lakes will be the dominating factor in our weather story here over the next couple of days. this front continues to slip down to the south. there's no precipitation along the front, and with the high coming in from the northwest, it's obvious that we're going to stay dry today and probably tomorrow as well. a little bit of high, thin cloud cover still showing up on the satellite, so we'll call it partly to mostly sunny. that cloud deck you see on the edge of the screen, those are the outer bands of igor. finally we get to say goodbye to this big storm. it came across bermuda last night as a category one hurricane. i didn't see any reports of catastrophic damage or anything. there was a big storm surge with it, but it's pulling away from the island now, and it will move into the open waters of the atlantic. and again, we can finally say goodbye to igor. our forecast here at home, mostly sunny, a little breezy, but nice. high temperatures this afternoon will be in the upper 70's. sunrise coming up at 6:52, and it should be a beautiful sunrise. mostly clear tonight. i'm going call it chilly.

that's in andy harris' unfair tax plan. 23% sales tax. a 23% sales tax will cut my business in half. would be devastating. andy harris' 23% sales tax absolutely makes no sense. 23% sales tax would really make things unaffordable. that's too high for the average american out here. i don't know how we would manage it really. don't like that idea. we can't afford andy harris' idea. i'm frank kratovil and i approve this message.
