he surprisingly pleaded guilty today to severely beating the 76 year olds. he also admitted to stealing his truck. >> it is safe to say that this is a plea agreement that we feel very good about because we are going to get this person off the street. >> he will be sentenced on monday. that is the same day the trial is set to begin. he took the stand today. the defense questioned why more detectives did not assist him in the case. questions the validity of evidence obtained from the scene. the money still in -- stolen from the lounge was never recovered. his testimony will continue tomorrow. two couples were killed today during a drug bust in west baltimore. -- pitt bulls.

the dogs were shot. there is no word on what caused the officers to open fire, built police said they did see a large amount of heroin and a managed to make three arrest. another day and elle local family -- and other local family has lost their homes to fire. it happened around 9:30 this morning. officials said a fire caused the propane gas tank -- tank on the deck to explode. the six people inside were able to safely escaped. just yesterday, a fire in north baltimore left an entire family without a home. that broke out early yesterday. some inside jumped to safety, including the families grandmother. no one was seriously injured. it was a bit of a stormy night across our area. lightning lit up the sky around the door of baltimore as we felt under a thunderstorm watch. here is how looks around day 30

tonight. that same system brought powerful storms earlier in the day as well. a massive tree came crashing down. we will have more on the system that moved through coming your way. this story now that affects just about everyone of us. they are tearing up our cars, that is the findings of the national transportation group. rent the baltimore area as the 10th worst in the country. -- ranked the baltimore area. state officials say it is not entirely their fault. >> we certainly do not have to travel far in this area to find drugs that have pot holes, sinkholes, or some sort of rough patch. that is when a survey found that baltimore roads are among the worst in the country. the estimate the drivers here spend an extra $600 a year on gas and maintenance costs because of road conditions.

that $9,000 check isn't the only one that is surrounded by questions. there is also the $75,000 check, the result of a companion court case filed against the driver of the other car in the accident. it, too, was made payable to alex. she was not the one who saw any of the proceeds. >> did you ever see the check? >> not have it. not a penny. not even the check. i was waiting 90 checks. >> rebecca was also injured on the job and was also a client. the two checks were cut by the state of maryland. one was for $22,500 issued in march of two dozen 8. endorsed and cashed. but not by her. >> did you sign the check? >> absolutely not. i never even saw the jet. >> we caught up with them at a community pool during his home

year by his own consent. it was the result of a complaint filed by rebecca to the state's attorney grievance commission. we had another question. with a finding that this guy can no longer practice law, no police officer came knocking on your door? to say, we want to prosecute this guy. >> no. >> it is rare indeed in maryland for lawyers to break the rules to face the same consequences of others outside the profession. in other words, they may lose their license, but a related charge with eight crime. there were 55 lawyers disbarred for misdeeds involving client money. in just nine of those cases could be fined related criminal charges. that is a prosecution rate of just 16%. the commission told us there is no automatic hand of a case involving a disbarred lawyer to a state's attorney for possible

prosecution. that decision is made by the commission on the case by case basis. >> you of not been contacted by any investigators? >> no. >> we spoke with him on august 6, he seemed not all worried about the possibility of criminal charges. in fact, he was indicted by a baltimore county grand jury on august 12 on eight counts of theft and embezzlement involving for clients, including alexander back up. that was several weeks after we had begun inquiries about him with the attorneys grievance commission. for alex, he has been double trouble. not only did he allegedly stealing from her, he may have improperly settled her case. i remember that $75,000 check? it is the result of an insurance settlement he and negotiated. alex is new lawyer says that is far short of the expenses of working -- or, company has already paid. alex future benefits may now be in jeopardy. >> she is behind on her mortgage
