ray rice sprained his ankle. we will keep an eye on that moving forward. >> he is the kind of guy you want playing quarterback for you. i do not think there is anyone who doubted that for one second, not anyone. that is not to say you do not do everything you can to get as good as you can be. he has done it before and he will do it again. not everything will be perfect, but he played well today. >> after he threw four interceptions last week, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. they turn their attention to pittsburgh next week, on the road against the steelers. they will carry the momentum with them. we'll have more on the ravens later in sports. >> a local school is being featured for its participation in an nfl program that offers more than 16,000 elementary schools the chance to win a $10,000 grant and a visit from an nfl player.

our lady of perpetual help school has shown enough ravens spirit to qualify for the grant. after today's game -- it was not just fans ready for the home opener. local businesses were also eagerly anticipating kickoff. >> baltimore, in general, has been awaiting this home opener. >> it is not just the fans, but the businesses that benefit from the tens of thousands who flocked downtown to see their favorite birds fly at home for the first time this season. restaurants like this steakhouse look to the home opener to get some real meat on the bones of their profits. >> we're the closest fine dining location to the facility. we anticipate -- we're that much more excited. >> the economy heavily depends on the ravens. one study estimates that the ravens home games in 2006 helped generate roughly $216 million in

business sales statewide. >> it brings energy downtown. people come and go into the restaurant's before and after the game. it is a whole new world. everybody is excited. >> george lettis, wbal 11 news. >> police are investigating the death of a patient at a psychiatric hospital. they're calling it a homicide, but not releasing much information beyond that. the patient was found not criminally irresponsible for the murder of a worker in 2004. tomorrow, he will appear before a judge for sentencing. he pleaded guilty to arms, carjacking, assault, and the crimes. his sentence will be imposed tomorrow morning. the victim, an elderly african- american man, will also address the court in the victim impact statement to tell the court how his life has changed and what he

is doing now. >> it is expected that the judge will impose a sentence of the time of the plea, which was 31 years. 30 years for the armed carjacking, 25 years for the first-degree assault, and one year for the crime. >> there were to give you a juvenile is also involved. one of them will be heard from at a separate 0-- two juveniles also involved. one of them will be heard from at a separate hearing. motorcycle slid into a utility pole. 23-year-old mike knapp -- matthew cavey was killed. his passenger 16-year-old elijah kelley is listed in serious condition at shock trauma. the closest many of us will ever get to a foreign -- ferrari. new york honors a brave firefighter who lost his life on 9/11.

edgewood, 70. frederick is at 72. 58, mchenry. here are the clouds. the really humid air is off to the west. some little waves moving along the front will stir things up and dragged the moisture from the south. it will take a couple of days. we will be wet. a couple of showers overnight. northeast winds @ 5. the overnight low was in the 60's. is in the 60's to 70's. there could be some persistent and heavy rain tomorrow. how much rain are we talking about? monday, tuesday, quite a bit. in the baltimore area, anywhere from 1.5 to 2 inches.

editorial by jordan wertlieb. >> the race for state's attorney was one of the most hotly contested and expensive races ever for the office. the challenger defeated incumbent patricia jessamy in a hard-fought in close race in the primary election. patricia jessamy has spent 15 years working to engage and educate the community on criminal-justice issues while serving as prosecutor. her efforts to prosecute crime as well as treatment and prevention have impacted our city and state. now, gregg bernstein has promised to take personal responsibility for reducing crime and prosecuting violent criminals. he vows to increase conviction rates and make the city safer. those are lofty goals in a city where violent crime has been on the agenda for decades. despite those promises, he cannot do that alone. a fresh start with a new prosecutor is also the opportunity for the criminal justice system to join forces, share resources, and work

together. it will take the prosecutor's office as well as the police, legislators, and all the support services to make baltimore safer for everyone. he will not officially when the election until november 2nd, but he has been officially received the job and all of the challenges that come with it. challenges that come with it. that's in andy harris' unfair tax plan. 23% sales tax. a 23% sales tax will cut my business in half. would be devastating. andy harris' 23% sales tax absolutely makes no sense. 23% sales tax would really make things unaffordable. that's too high for the average american out here. i don't know how we would manage it really. don't like that idea. we can't afford andy harris' idea. i'm frank kratovil and i approve this message.

bob ehrlich pretends to be for the working guy... but he's not on our side. i thought i knew bob ehrlich, but then i found out... he raised property taxes on every maryland family... and business. he increased college tuition... by 40%. 40%. and i thought i knew bob ehrlich. he was against raising the minimum wage. made $2.5 million...
