remnants of what was a tropical storm. >> if that is not enough, we are under possible threat of a tornado. we have crews stored all -- on standby all over maryland. people are trying to keep the water and vain. we will check in with them in just a moment. -- people are trying to keep the water at bay. >> it has been windy and wet. there have been flooding problems and another round is on the way. more rain, heavy coming out from the south. right now, the heaviest rains are falling on the eastern shore. coming up across the southern side of the bay. see that yellow and orange, that is on the way for our region. there's the possibility of more heavy showers. you will see that tropical moisture extends down to

virginia and the carolinas. accumulation estimates pretty much right up the bay and on the western shore, four-7 inches so far with 5-10 inches with parts of calvert county. it looks like some of that area will get hit hard tonight. the western shore shifting over to the eastern shore, another 5 inches of rain may come down. flood warnings are up all over our region. there's also a tornado watch until 7:00 this evening. they may produce tornadoes. lots of other problems as the remnants of nicole comes our way. monitoring the conditions in downtown baltimore is jane miller. they are dealing with the wind pushing up the bay. >> i am standing at the harbor and behind me i can feel the wind against my back.

we will show you what you were talking about. this is the promise not area. -- promenade. all that area and the waterfront, everyone is keeping a close eye on that water level. the safety manager of the baltimore national aquarium kept watch on the rising water levels around the harbor. >> is this starts flooding over here -- >> we will monitor this. >> we will block traffic coming this way. >> the aquarium close to two hours early and they used their floodgates' even while expecting no serious problems. sailboat or knows -- sailboat owners were nervous. >> there is a southeast wind

earlier today. earlier today and this morning, water was completely over that mailbox. as the rain got more heavy, the water got deeper, and deeper, and deeper. this van and car were stuck under the amtrak over past. apparently they tried to drive through and they were stuck. this woman was stock as well. that is the way she goes home. >> i cannot get home. i cannot go any way to get home. >> the water is blocking it? >> yes. >> a huge section of the road was under water when the creek overflowed from all of the rain. how fast did it come up? >> it came in at about 15-20 minutes. i drove through it and it was only about 5 inches. by the time i got the mail opened, it was over the barrier.

naval academy's weather station and as of midnight they have had 7 inches of rain. i just wanted to give us a quick look. pretty much up to the dog over at the reserve club, you can see the water is up to the tables and chairs which is very high. that is expected to rise. -- pretty much up over the dock at the reserve club. some are worried but surprisingly, some are not. for those who have businesses or homes near the city dock in annapolis, they know that a good hard rain can mean mitre flooding and they are prepared. >> -- minor flooding and they're prepared. >> we have a small pump for something like this and then we

cancers and their families. >> bunches and bunches of rain coming down, we have had tornado warnings issued. this is all because of a tropical connection. this was drawing moisture out of the bahamas and now we have the remnants of a tropical storm also on the way. one part moves through was some heavy rains and you can see that is winding down. as soon as that goes, we will have some more coming. this is the association -- associated with the remnants of nicole. this is moving into eastern carolina with some heavy thunderstorms and showers. this will move. our region later tonight. this will hopefully get out of here in time for us to salvage friday afternoon and into the

weekend. you'll see most of the very heavy rain thankfully fell in the day. if this line has shifted farther west and the city is right in this city, "-- is right in the center, we would have had more problems. the western shore was clipped. in the southern end, down here we see some purple. rain gauges indicated 5-9 inches of rain. this extends the right into eastern baltimore county. tonight's round of rain schists and little way to the east, just a little bit more. looking like the heavy rain tonight will fall on the eastern shore but some of those areas that were hit hard part in that yellow and orange region getting over a three-4 inches. flooding is remaining a major threat through the night. the flood warnings are just

about everywhere. the flood watches far where there is not a warning on going. the wind has been strong this on the eastern shore. adjusting to 38 in georgetown. -- gusting to 38 in georgetown. this boston area is where the tornado watch is in effect primarily for the eastern shore. all of that kinds of lines up as the worst weather shifts to the east but most spots will deal with wind and rain. southeast wind hopefully shifting to the northwest. we should be getting a shift to the northwest and that will help to flush some of the water out of the bay. still, tides will run another two-3 feet on top of what is normal. you see this cold front and there is the low that brought the rain today.

this is a low pressure area with tropical moisture. only the east coast has nasty weather. the vast majority of the nation under strong high pressure and people are enjoying a beautiful weather pattern while we have to deal with this tropical in connection for about 18-24 hours. you can see the rain tapering off tomorrow morning. we should get some sun tomorrow. there is some cloudy weather coming out of western pennsylvania and the swings to the region. temperatures will be chilly and there will be some spotty showers for the weekend. this sum comes up but the wind will stick around. -- the soun comes up. we get into another set unsettled weather pattern tuesday, wednesday of next week.

this is a pretty dramatic picture with flooding on miller's island. that looks pretty rough. >> that is pretty rough. they're getting pelted here in baltimore county. the roads are flooded. we have even seen some damage to some of the property here. we will show you one of the peers that has been obliterated between the surf, the waves, and the wind. this looks like it is a fairly new pier, it is now gone. we have seen some telephone poles in people's yards and polls trying to make it -- and cars trying to make it down here. >> she was electrocuted in a park but the family says that the city is refusing to compensate them. >> sentencing day for the police

officer who fired his service weapon after a bar fight. how long he is expected to serve. >> a juror is excused during closing arguments in the trial of three men accused in the murder of kenneth harris. we will have details coming up.

>> after several weeks of testimony, closing arguments are under way in the trial of three men were charged in the killing of kenneth harris. >> one juror was excused, that was juror number 6. the judge gave no explanation, he moved out an alternate juror. in closing arguments, the prosecutor said that all three men are equally guilty. they focus on the police investigation and they told the jury not to convict the wrong people.

the prosecutors told jurors of the timeline of events in 2008. just seconds after the shooting of kenneth harris, prosecutors claimed that the defendants, jerome williams, charles mcganey committed the robbery. they ran out of the back door of the club. dna from all three was found on latex gloves and bandanas located not far from the bar. this is the last thing that harris off. on it, police found williams' dna. as harris tried to flee, he yelled his wife's name. a good friend of harrison -- of

pleaded guilty to firing a service weapon after a bar fight was sentenced to 18 years in prison this afternoon. authorities say that he was off- duty at the time and he fired at the car in which the people he was fighting with drove off in. >> a complaint has been filed against the city. a woman was that a softball game and she was electrocuted when she touched a fence. the first case was rejected and the judge granted the city community -- granted the city immunity. >> no one goes to a softball game thinking they're not coming home. that is the furthest thing from anyone's mind. the city is responsible. >> a judge has yet to rule on

the medicines. >> dillard is far more heavy rain and the possibility even of the fear thunderstorms. we are on a tomato what -- tornado watch. you can see a heavy rain coming in to parts of easton and across dorchester county. southern maryland is getting hit already. this may well fall on the eastern shores. this is all in response to another area of low pressure. the first round of rain was just a typical coastal storm coming up with tropical moisture in it and now what is left of the tropical storm will actually have to pass through our region and bring some rain as we go through the overnight. this is the first batch of rain moving north. check out the almanac and you will see a new record for the

day, three and a half inches. this matched the old record which was only 1.6 inches on the last day of september, 1920. sunspots have had twice this amount right along the western shore of the bay. two points have come up to tropical levels. it looks like being down in the tropics, that is why we have had so much rain. the higher the two. , the more moisture in the atmosphere. when the temperature gets lower, we could have some fog in the area. this purple stripes mostly over the bay of sometimes clipping the western shores are where the heaviest rain has fallen. in the purple area, that could be very heavy rainfall. most of it fell out of the waters of the day the many land areas did get soaked and there

is more on the way. the forecast shows a very heavy strip of rain on the eastern shore. some of that will also clipped the western shore. for our region, the dark green shaded counties where flooding is ongoing. flood warnings are in effect for most areas around baltimore and four southern pennsylvania. we do expect some gusty wind to continue especially on the eastern shore. we have already seen just over 30 miles per hour. saul's very gusting over 30 m.p.h.. the waters and that they have been pushed to the north and the tides that rolled in and the rain has not been able to flush out. the tide the roles in will go on top of that water that is already there. unless the wind can shift to the northwest and we think that that will happen later this evening.

this will help to push some of the day later tonight. that is a tornado watch. the farther east to go, the more prone you are to some isolated thunderstorms. the wind shifting to the northwest and gusting to 30 miles per hour. this area of low pressure is tried in the jet stream down to the tropics and that is why all of that activity is headed our way. you will see more rain tracking off tomorrow morning and moving off the coast in the evening. then we get a nice start for the weekend. the second half of the weekend, the showers and the great lakes start moving in. -- over the great lakes start moving in. 76 tomorrow morning. the wind will shift to the northwest and gust to 30 miles per hour. rain in the morning at around the bay and then clearing out, 73. a gusty wind will continue on

the lower east and shores. a little bit of sun late in the day. if you are headed up to pittsburg for the ravens and the steelers game, the forecast for 1:00 sunday, clouds and maybe a shower early on. gradually clearing through the afternoon. a cool fall day with temperatures run around 55. the seven day forecast, 73 to mark and the sun finally comes back. more often and on showers monday, tuesday, wednesday of next week. -- 73 tomorrow. >> the postal service will not be increasing the price of stamps. the independent panel overseeing the postal service denied their request to increase the price of stamps. postal service lost $3.8 billion last year. the new rates would have taken effect january 2nd. a massive recall with toys,

tricycles, and height chairs. fisher-price announced the recall after more than 20 entries. there is also recalls involving sleep positioners. >> more products that safety officials say could be dangerous. >> these products have problems where children can have cuts and lacerations requiring stitches and also some of the toys have choking hazards. >> the recall includes 7 million fisher-price tricycles. the consumer product safety commission's says they know of 10 reports of children being heard by the tricycle. the problem is a plastic ignition key that they can sit or fall on. fisher-price is recalling more than 100 high chairs. pegs can be used to store the trade that kids can fall on them. a variety of toys and soft gyms with inflatable ballas.
