take a look at this doc getting battered by the bay. right now, there are about 55,000 people around the state without power due to yesterday's storm. a family in baltimore county dealt with something other than high waters. this tree fell on at their house. crews worked to remove it and discover what caused the tree to fall. >> once more, a quick review of what happened yesterday. first, the numbers. at the airport, a high of 78 degrees. at dwi, 6.2 inches of rain in -- at bwi, 6.2 inches of rain. 5.7 downtown. yesterday's rain at the airport

was a record. the old record was 1.6 inches -- be it by a mile. rain has moved offshore finally, at least around the baltimore area. but the clouds are now the next issue. we're trying to get temperatures out of the '60s, because that is where we are stuck right now. the storm may get pulled away by nicer air at least for a day or so. >> as the area begins to dry out, crews are dealing with the aftermath. they're trying to fix several sinkholes. there is one in anne arundel county. the road has been shut down. crews have been working nonstop to repair the huge crater which some say is the largest ever in that area.

the bus lost control. >> somebody said, driver, watch out. he started swerving toward the bridge. i heard screams and we went tumbling down. >> people jumped into the bus to get everyone out. we had to go to people who had first-aid kits in their car and stuff. >> one person was pronounced dead at the scene. 12 others are being treated at a hospital, two for life- threatening injuries. closing arguments are expected to continue in the murder trial of three men accused of killing baltimore city councilman ken harris. yesterday, one juror was dismissed and replaced with an alternate. the reason was not given.

meanwhile, a police officer who pleaded guilty to firing his weapon after a bar fight has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. he was off-duty at the time. he got into a fight with several people and fired as he was driving off. funeral arrangements have been finalized for a police officer killed in an accident this week. that memorial for james fowler is set for sunday with viewing hours from 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. the funeral will be held monday. officer fowler will be billed at delaney -- will be buried at laney memorial garden. chief of staff rahm emanuel is leaving the white house to run for mayor of chicago. we have more on that story. >> for washington, it is time to

hospital which is renowned for treating children. and suv hit a patch of water and lost control. one child survived and is being treated at a hospital. these are the first death in north carolina connected to the storm. massive flooding prompted this rescue after two people were stranded northwest of philadelphia. up to 10 inches of rain fell in some areas. thousands of people are still without power in central and eastern pennsylvania. still to come, of fisher-price is issuing the recall of thousands of toys. that is our consumer alert. and a warning from the federal government involving a product that is supposed to keep people safe. >> tropical moisture is moving to the east for the time being. there are indications it may come back. we will take a look in just a minute. it is a little brighter up there

>> in our consumer alert, fisher-price has announced a massive recall of toys, tricycles and high chairs. this is after reports of more than 20 injuries. 7 million tricycles have been recalled because of a seat that can fall off. 1,000,009 shares are being -- 1 million high chairs are being recalled because of a peg on the back of the chair. >> manufacturers have to make sure that they test their product the early, that they have good quality control

clout. we will continue to see clouds pushing down -- it is getting brighter with a few clouds. we will continue to see clouds pushing down throughout the day. that stream of tropical moisture came right up the day yesterday, wave after wave of intense thunderstorm cells moving through the area. no lightning with it, so i do not know why we are calling it thunderstorms, but some intense rains in theire. the moisture produced three-6 inches on average. the corps had a band of 7-8 inches. when reading in southern maryland got up to 13 inches. a very intense rain yesterday.

in st. mary's county, 13.8 inches. essex, 8.5, dublin manner, seven, 6.2 at the airport, a record. temperatures now are beginning to respond a little bit to the sunshine. more clouds to the east, temperature is held into the mid-60's. out to the west, is in the low- 60's-50's. here is a picture of the heavier clouds, the rainmakers off to the east. cooler air is pushing in. this is what's left. it is over new york city and moving on. new england is catching what we had yesterday.

tomorrow will be relatively brain free until the next weather disturbance. also -- rain-free until the next weather disturbance. also, here is that cool air coming in. this same pattern is going to bring weather disturbances. our forecast today finds clouds and son, the son getting a little more intense. we still have a flood watches and warnings out along the area along the bay on the western shore because of winds and high tides. the water still have to receive a little bit, but no additional rain. here is our future cast. here is the tropical moisture and the weather disturbance pulling out of the picture. dry conditions for now.

here is the next system to come in and out of the great lakes. way up but the top of the screen is a system in canada. that will not come south, but watch what happens to this or whether when it comes in sunday. we are going to get some rain sunday afternoon around 1:00. there is tropical moisture coming into the picture as well. rain does return to the forecast. sunday will be mostly cloudy skies, temperatures only in the 50's. there is a chance of shower activity and north winds from 5- 10 miles per hour. 73 today will be the best we can manage. right now we are stuck in the 60's. we will barely get into the 70's if we get there at all. 69 on sunday. sunday we start picking up

clouds and a higher range chance. all next week, we expect highs to begin the 60's. >> in our medical alert, most suicidal teens treated in the er go on to get follow-up care. nearly one-third are discharged. two months after leaving the hospital, but two out of three patients had seen a mental health professional. a new study finds that too little or too much sleep during early pregnancy is linked to high blood pressure during the third trimester. elevated pressure in expectant moms was logged in women who had less than six or more than 12 hours of sleep during their early pregnancy.

researchers suggest women keep a regular sleep schedule during pregnancy to avoid this potentially dangerous problem. there is a strong warning today for parents from the federal government involving a product designed to keep infants safe. there are fears this product could actually put a child's life in danger. >> sudden infant death syndrome is the leading cause of death for infants under 6 months old. it is the reason doctors say babies should sleep on their backs. positioners with soft side cushions claim to do that. one doctor says those devices do not actually keep the baby safer. >> they look like something that the baby could rollover, and then the baby could get itself in a dangerous position. >> that is exactly what this

warning from the fda is warning parents about, following the death of over a dozen incidents over a 13 year span, and many more complaints. using a conditioner is dangerous and unnecessary. today, there is no scientifically sound evidence that it prevents sudden infant death syndrome. >> it does not get tested and a real way. i cannot imagine that new ones will not be designed and put on the market in the future. >> the doctor says baby's should sleep on their back -- babies should sleep on their back. >> do not use the devices at all. that is the simplest, cheapest and most effective thing. >> the fda has asked the 18 manufacturers of these positioners to stop selling the
