filed earlier this year. this could be the largest number of individual lawsuits filed against a doctor and hospital. 101 individual lawsuits were filed tuesday against st. joseph's medical center, midlantic cardiovascular services and it cardiologists dr. mark midei. allegations service against dr. mark midei in 2009 that he put stents in the arteries of patients that did not have a 70% blockage required for that procedure. >> in that case, he would see a blockage that was 20%, he would put in writing it was a 90%. thereby putting a stent in. >> the stent could lead to complications like blood clots and require patients to be on blood thinners. st. joseph's is included because they allegedly turned a blind eye to what he was doing.

>> these lawsuits were filed because of saint joseph's absolute refusal to be fair with the the very patients they sent letters to. in forming these patients that they had a stand that was placed there was not medically necessary. >> the letter was dated in 2009 and was a result of a review of patient filed by other cardiologists. it was sent to the patients and their doctors. the hospital addressed those letters and a statement saying that the fact they sent these letters to certain patients is not proof of liability. it will take responsibility that patients demonstrate that inappropriate care costs them and energy. the statement says the hospital is open to talking with any patient who believes a they have a claim in those cases where they have a proper medical information, it will continue to seek a fair and satisfactory resolution with its patients. but miller says he and his

>> europe remains unguarded tonight after the u.s. issued an alert for citizens traveling in europe. there are new details surrounding the tariff threat. we have the latest from london. >> a u.s. predator drone strike has killed a number of chairman nationals. there is no confirmation between all lank of that bombing and the new terror alert in europe, but intelligence indicated that a number of european nationals had traveled to pakistan to receive training. intercepted phone conversations suggest that some of those europeans have traveled back home to stage attacks on european cities. much of the information leading to the terror alert was gathered during the interrogation of a prisoner in afghanistan. >> the alert that was issued by the state department is based on information about potential

threats in europe. we want travelers to be alert and aware. the particular threat information deals with europe, and is not related to the united states. >> still, the state department has stopped short of announcing a warning to americans not to travel to europe. the alert urges tourists to be cautious in public places and use common sense. >> tonight, the pakistani citizen wellu.s. spent the rest of his life in jail. he pleaded guilty to all the charges against him. saadnd federal courts, sha showed no remorse for his failed times square bomb threat. he told them that he welcomed the six life sentences handed down and claimed the defeat of

the u.s. was imminent. the sentencing came after he pled guilty in june to 10 counts of terrorism and weapons charges. he admitted that he packed his suv full of improvised explosives. the bombs did not detonate due to faulty wiring. prosecutors entered into videos as evidence today. one showed the test labs using the same types of explosives and that he made. the force of the explosion demonstrated how deadly the bombs could a bend in a bustling times square. in the other, he appears in a taliban video after he traveled to pakistan to receive training in how to make bombs. it is a far different view of him up from his life here in u.s.. he appeared to be living the american dream, married with children, and working as a

>> the university of maryland's school of pharmacy opened its brand new building today. features a new patient interactions week. the building is also fitted with $20 million worth of scientific and information technology equipment. the total cost of the facilities stands at $62 million. >> in tonight's medical alerts, a new report is calling for big changes in the nursing profession, giving heiress' a seat at the healthcare table. the institute of medicine at once nurses to have a bigger voice in redesigning the health care, because they spend most time with patients. the report says nurses need better access to more training and education, and with millions

more patient expected to have access to health care and a shortage of doctors, the institute says that barriers that prevent nurses from practicing to the full extent of their training should be removed. an experimental brain cancer vaccine has been found to double the life expectancy of some patients. the blastoma is the same cancer that led to the death of ted kennedy. it usually kills its victims within 15 months. patients participating in the trial at duke university are beating the odds. >> one of the most amazing things we have seen is that several patients have lived over five years. >> those on the vaccine went to an average of 14 months before their disease progressed compared with six months for other patients. and next step is to launch a study that compares those with the vaccine curses those with a placebo. kids carry text books,

we need to get through another 24 hours of dealing with the same weather pattern. let me draw your attention to that swirl of clouds just east of new york city. it almost looks like an audit of a hurricane trying to wind up as this low pressure system spends its way up towards the coast of new jersey. really beautiful satellite picture. the area of low pressure they're spinning around and trying to form an eye-like feature in the cloud cover. we will be watching this batch of clouds coming in over western pennsylvania. it will swing around and bring us a chance for a shower tomorrow. ther ee you see that eye-like feature. clouds and cool. the normal high as around 71 degrees. is only 55 and westminster. 56 and parked in. frostburg, much of alleghany --

temperatures in the low 40's throughout the day. oakland only 39 degrees. will be in the 40's tonight. tomorrow, those clouds of wellcome in it from the west with the showers and embedded. a chance for a rainshower while we develop. that is the surface feature. higher up in the atmosphere is this low pressure system over west virginia and that is what will move through. at the ground level, it is moving up the coast. up above it, this feature will bring us a last chance for showers tomorrow, then a big high pressure comes in just in time for the end of the week. it should last into the weekend. another chilly day tomorrow. once we get the sunshine back thursday, we will bounce back to normal temperatures and maybe even above normal going into

posted august 20 by an employee with the department of labor. department officials characterized it as talking points, designed to launch an internal discussion about how the numbers should be presented. the numbers in the report never changed. the advertisement want you to believe that someone doctored the report. what the bob ehrlich blocked out in red ink is that -- is the explanation of the number. >> what ever we needed to do to make it disappear, we need to do it. >> this is true, but, the e- mails report -- support a scramble by labor officials to remove the information from the state web page and the internet. but the order to remove the economic report came from state labor secretary sanchez, not governor o'malley. the governor told reporters he was not aware of and did not believe he had seen the report. the emails released even explained that that is coming straight from the top refers to

two governors, two different approaches. even in good times bob ehrlich didn't make education a priority. he increased college tuition by 40%, cut school construction by $200 million, and ehrlich voted to eliminate the department of education while serving in congress. but in the toughest of times, martin o'malley has made record investments in public schools, new school construction, and o'malley froze college tuition four years in a row. with martin o'malley, our children always come first.

the futurecast generates some showers tomorrow afternoon. the showers began to lift up on thursday. high pressure builds and for a stretch of beautiful weather through the weekend. showers tomorrow, 57-62. wins on the chesapeake bay of the southwest at 10-15 knots with waves around one to two feet. it is still the hurricane season. they are still monitoring some strong waves out here. they are more concerned with this one just north of puerto rico. indications are it might try to become a tropical storm. if it does become a storm, it will be named otto. maybe tropical storm otto forming in the next day or two. but the chance for a shower of about 30%. 58 degrees. look at how much warmer its debts once the sunshine breaks through on thursday -- a 70-75.

trucks to earn top grades. we have the latest tonight from washington. >> how are safe is your car? the government says a new system will make it easier to tell, combining front, side, and rollover tests with a new simulation that mimics striking a tree. >> it will recognize and reward vehicles with advanced safety technology like electronic stability control, alnlane departure warnings and forward collision warning system. >> out of the first 33 vehicles tested, only two are earning a five-star rating -- the hyundai sonata and the bmw. the toyota camry got 3. in a statement, tour europe pointed out that it had done well under the previous system.
