as the last couple of days. let's take a look at current conditions. it's 62 at the airport. the barometric pressure at 29.80 and falling. that's an indication that things are going to change, and there is about a 30% chance we could see thunderstorms develop later this afternoon. the best chance will be in the northern suburbs, but look at the high temperature, low to mid 80's. the average high is 69. we're going to be way above the mark. when we come back, we'll take a look at the forecast. but first, good morning to sarah and let's see what's happening on the roads. >> good morning, everyone. we're starting off with a few early morning problems. we have a water main break blocking argonne drive right at alameda in the city. church lane at rolling road, police activity. we're at 57 miles per hour on the west side outer loop right around 40, so still moving pretty well. no problems on 795 this morning. i-70 looks good as you make your way in towards the beltway. one more problem of note, another water main break right at frederick road and woodlawn

argument before the shooting. shortly before 2:00 sunday morning, officers responded to warwick avenue, where they found a 28-year-old shot in the arm and a 33-year-old shot several times. we're told the 33-year-old later died. three additional deadly shootings happened on saturday. on grantley road, shamrock avenue, and north calvert street n. baltimore county saturday night, there was a stabbing at the fairgrounds in timonium with two rims. -- with two victims. one man spoke to 11 news about what happened during oktoberfest. >> it's kinds of crazy. there were kids around, so we went across the building, and someone's on the floor bleeding, another guy is being held down, and, you know, we found out somebody got stabbed. >> police say the two victims were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. meanwhile, baltimore city police say they are calling in additional units to address this outbreak of violence.

reporting live at federal hill, kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> kim, thank you. meanwhile, city police are also investigating what they're calling a suspicious death in west baltimore. investigators say they found a body in the 800 block of north freemount avenue. this morning, there's no word on how the victim died and the identity of the victim has not been released. >> a georgia man is behind bars here in maryland this morning, charged with kidnapping. police say a 28-year-old victim called 911 to report that she and her two children had been kidnapped by her estranged husband. within an hour, state police in cecil county located the vehicle, and the -- and arrested the suspect, deivi polanco. he's being held on $750,000 bond. the trial of a man accused of murdering his life will resume later this morning in baltimore county. prosecutors claim dennis tetso killed his wife, trace i, back in 2005. she disappeared while heading

to a concert, and her car was found 11 days later. those closest to tracy said she told her to move out of the house. to this day, her body has not been found. the prosecution says it does not need a body to prove its case. >> well, the denver broncos came to town never having won a game against the ravens here in baltimore, and guess what. they left town with another loss. the matchup featured denver's top-ranked passing offense against baltimore's number one-rated pass defense. and in the end, the ravens' run game led by ray rice and the ray lewis-led defense proved to be too much for kyle or to know and the broncos. the final score, our baltimore ravens 31, denver broncos 17. the ravens now head to foxboro next sunday to face tom brady and the new england patriots. and ravens fans will gather this evening for tours, autographs, and much more. the fourth annual purple evening for ladies only will be held at m&t bank stadium from

summer weather, you get at least one day here. we're shooting for a high temperature of 83 degrees. some of you will climb into the mid's. there is a 30% chance for a thunderstorm late in the afternoon, but most of the day will be dry. when we come back, we'll talk about the big changes coming up later on this week in the seven-day forecast. for now, over to the news desk. >> covering the nation this morning, an illinois police officer on medical leave is charged with first degree murder. police arrested 37-year-old brian dorian over the weekend in illinois. he's suspected of shooting three men, including one fatally, in an interstate crime spree last tuesday. investigators pulled dorian over just hours after the shooting because his vehicle matched the witness description, but he was later released. he is currently on medical leave with an injured shoulder from the police department. >> astonishing story out of new york this morning. eight young suspects were arraigned yesterday, just a day after one of the most brutal hate crimes in recent history. police in new york say members of a gang known as the latin

national pike. west side looks good, same goes for the north side. 83 is in good shape this morning. 29 and 216, north and southbound running without delay at this hour. and this is normally when we go to kurt kroncke for the m.t.a. report, but because it's columbus day, we're just going to go to tony. >> good morning, everyone. things pretty quiet in the weather department right now. just a few high, thin clouds at the present time. the big story today is going to be the temperatures. this afternoon we're going to climb into the mid 80's. right now it's in the low 60's, so significantly warmer, even at this hour, than yesterday. 62 at the airport. 58 in parkton, one of the cooler spots. here's the weather setup. we've got a warm front just to our north moving across central pennsylvania. high pressure to the south and an area of low pressure coming out of the great lakes. little disturbances traveling in the jet stream to our north, and they may come close enough to trigger a shower or thunderstorm here later this afternoon and into tonight. but the bulk of that system i think will hold off until later tonight and tomorrow to come through. right now, there's nothing

showing up on the radar around us. some showers trying to develop along that front to the north, but most of the activity is still back in the midwest with some severe weather going on right now in the southern plains. we can pick up a little bit of cloud cover on the satellite imagery, so we're going to call it partly cloudy today. it will make for a beautiful sunrise. but again, the big story is the change in the temperatures. the winds have shifted to the southwest, and if you're a summer weather fan, yeah, you'll like it. high temperatures between 80 and 85. the average high temperature today is 69. significantly above average. a slight chance for a storm late in the afternoon. sunrise at 12 minutes after 7:00. partly cloudy skies tonight, still a chance for a shower or thunderstorm. low temperatures will drop back to around 60. sun sets this evening at 6:34. during the day tomorrow, the system will come all the way through and be parked off the midatlantic coast. this looks a little more dramatic than it's actually going to be. the showers will be scattered in nature. we don't expect an all-day type rain on tuesday, but still a chance for a few showers.

the winds are going to shift north or northwest behind the system, so the temperatures will drop into the low to mid 70's, and that trend is going to continue as we head through the middle portion of the week. so down to 74 for a high temperature tomorrow. a chance for a couple of rain showers. wednesday, we go all the way into the upper 60's, and that's about average for this time of the year. still a chance for a few showers again at the end of the week, thursday and into friday. but look at the high temperatures at that time, mid 60's with overnight lows as we head into the weekend dropping close to 40 degrees. so a big change coming up at the end of the week, from the 80's right now. >> in this morning's consumer alert, state and federal authorities are looking into a certain type of internet fraud, coupon click fraud. the scams have become so pervasive, congress and the federal trade commission have begun investigations. the fraud happens when online consumers pay for an item and then are invited to click here to save on the next purchase. however, when you click for the

good morning to you. we're bracing for major developments in the foreclosure crisis. sources tell bloom as early as tomorrow attorneys general from about 40 states may announce a joint investigation into faulty foreclosures, and then the senate plans to hold hearings on this issue november 16. bank of america, j.p. morgan chase, and gmac among the lenders that have frozen foreclosh you're activity after allegations that employees used false data to speed up the foreclosure process. at the same time, this massive halt in home foreclosures may keep potential home buyers on the sidelines who are worried about legal issues, so that would drag down home sales even further, especially because sales of distressed properties currently make up a quarter of almost all tractions. it looks like we're going to open lower today. we did have a higher day friday. in fact, the dow closing above 11,000, first time at that level since the flash crash back in may. in the meantime, we may be paying for more hamburger. corn costs are surging to a two-year high and preventing livestock farmers from

your kid is physically active. >> a new study shows kids who spend more than two hours a day playing on the computer or watching tv tend to have more psychological problems, regardless of how physically active they are otherwise. so even if they are doing more sedentary activities like reading or homework, they scored better on mental health tests. child psychologists suggest aggressive content on the internet may be part of the problem. >> and also, they could be getting into what we call addictive type of mavers on the internet so that they really can't pull themselves away. >> the study does not prove increased screen time leads to psychological problems in kids. in fact, it may be the other way around. >> we don't know if, you know, watching on the computer or watching tv is causing kids to have these problems, or if kids who have problems are drawn to hanging out and watching tv and being on the computer. >> but whether screen time is replaced by play time, story time, or even bed time, experts

combined with exercise may be the key to driving down the obesity epidemic. researchers at the university of pittsburgh had 130 obese adults follow a strict diet made up of liquid and prepackaged meals. half of the participants also exercised at the start of the study, while the other half waited six months. they found those who worked out immediately lost more weight at the beginning, but the second group caught up once they started their exercise routine. on average, the participants lost more than 25 pounds. >> depround breaking there, huh? >> oh, yeah. >> a new study confirms race does play a role in breast cancer treatment, but experts aren't sure why. the study conducted by researchers at the dana farber cancer institute finds african-american and hispanic women are less likely to receive recommended hormonal therapy or chemotherapy when compared to white women. there were differences even after experts accounted for patients' insurance and economic status. they say more effort is needed to make sure all women with the disease get the treatment they need. >> the time is 5:42, 61 degrees

i-75. as far as the drive time, seven minutes down to the harbor tunnel toll, 11 minutes on both the north and west side outer loop. let's give you a live view of traffic in the area of white marsh. going away from us is southbound traffic, still moving very well, but volume is picking up there. we'll switch over to a live view of traffic on 795, and so far, so good all the way down towards 50. and that's the latest on traffic pulse 11. kurt kroncke is off for columbus day, so tony is in. he had to come, even though it's columbus day, right? >> i'm always here! yeah, weatherwise things are pretty quiet, not a whole lot to talk about, other than the fact it's going to be very warm. we're going to make is t into the 80's this afternoon. right now, upper 50's and low 60's, so maybe a light jacket to start the day, but certainly won't need it later on this afternoon. here's the weather set up. we had a front go through early this morning or late last night, warm front in the central part of pennsylvania. our winds have shifted southwest, so we'll have a nice, mild flow from the southern plains states, but

there's going to be little ripples in the upper level that will travel along that front. and one of those will pass by this afternoon, so there could trigger a few showers or thunderstorms late in the day. but most of the day is just going to be dry and warm. right now, there's no precip showing up along the front except for a couple of sprinkles up in new york state. the bulk of the activity is in the southern plains. they're getting some severe weather in parts of oklahoma and texas right now. again, we could see thunderstorms around here later this afternoon and tonight. but for right now, just some scattered clouds. it's going to make for a beautiful sun vise with clouds on the horizon, but again, no precipitation for us today, at least to start out. a mixture of sunshine and clouds as we head into this afternoon. after 4:00, a chance for a shower or thunderstorm and put only 30% chance on it. the high temperatures between 80 and 85. again, the average high is 69. sunrise coming up at 12 minutes after 7:00. tonight, partly cloudy skies, a chance for a shower or thunderstorm as the rest that have system comes through and the temperatures will drop back into the upper 50's. tomorrow, the area of low
