[captioning made possible by constellation energy group] captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- >> good afternoon. i am sarah caldwell. a violent weekend begins with a violent monday morning for baltimore city police. a call came in for gunshots and the park heights area of northwest baltimore, where police found a man's body. >> they found an adult male in

the rear, suffering from apparent gunshot wound to the head. >> police have no suspects or motives in the case. the weekend violence left five people dead and several others injured. police said they are deploying additional units to address the outbreak of violence police commissioner fred bealefeld met with senior commanders at headquarters this hour. we will have the latest tonight on 11 news at 5:00 and 6:00. city police are investigating what they are calling a suspicious death in west baltimore. they found a body inside a vacant rowhouse at the hundred block of north freemont avenue around 5:45 sunday evening. the identity of the victim has not been released. a georgia man is behind bars in maryland, charged with kidnapping. police said a 28-year-old victim called 911 to report that she and her two children had been kidnapped by her estranged

husband. within an hour, police in cecil county located the vehicle and arrested the suspect. he now faces kidnapping and child abduction, assault, imprisonment, and other charges. he is held on $750,000 bond did the trial of a man accused of murdering his wife will continue tomorrow. prosecutors claim that he killed his wife back in march 2005. she disappeared while heading to a concert. her car was found 11 days later. those close to her say that she told her husband to move out of the house and that the marriage was over. to this day her body has not been found. prosecution say they do not need a body to prove their case. baby medical center is returning to normal after officials discovered bedbugs in a patient's room last week hospital officials say it was an isolated incident. it is unknown where and the room the bedbugs were, whether added

>> handle and a police officer on medical leave is charged with first-degree -- an illinois police officer on medical leave is charged with first-degree murder. he says that it was of shooting three men and killing one -- he is suspected of at shooting three men and killing one. he has been on the force since 2005 but is currently on medical leave with an injured shoulder. eight young suspects were arraigned a day after one of the most brutal hit crimes in recent history. police in new york said that members of a gang known as the

alert," state and federal authorities are looking into a certain type of internet fraud. coupon click fraud is what is called. it is so pervasive that congress and the federal trade commission are investigating. it is what consumers pay for an item and are invited to click here to save on the next purchase. but there is not a coupon when you click, but an invitation to join the discount club. but even if you don't join, you have given your credit card information to the club, which enrolls you automatically. microsoft is working to take over smart phones' operating systems. >> it was only -- it was almost a year ago that microsoft stir things up by launching the windows 7 operating system. today they are aiming for a similar buzz and sales in the smartphone wars with the launch of windows found 7. large displays and functions and

riding along the front down into the mid-atlantic region. with the heat in place, the average temperature is fairly unstable. there is a lot of instability in the atmosphere. there could be what we call a trigger mechanism going, and we could see thunderstorms develop this afternoon. we see one of those trigger mechanisms across the ohio valley right now. this is going to come down towards us. later on this afternoon, there is a possibility we could see thunderstorms develop. if we get the storms developing, some of them could become a strong, including large hail and strong winds. keep an eye on that it still only a 30% or 4% chance of that. 30% or 40% chance of that. your pc hands of those clouds developing and pennsylvania. -- you already see it signs of clouds developing in pennsylvania. chance for a shower or thunderstorm late in the day.

some of the storms that developed could be strong. high competitors between 82 and 87. sunset at 6:34. overnight tonight, partly cloudy skies, a chance for a shower thunderstorm. the afternoon will drop back into the 50s and 60s. during the day tomorrow, area of low pressure moves off the coast and winds will shift to the northwest. we will still keep that chance for a couple showers in the forecast as this moves away from us. temperatures will drop off a good 10 degrees. the local air is going to come in at the end of the week. we may not get out of the fifties for highs by the time we get into thursday and friday. enjoy this if you are a summer weather fan while it is a rounded mid-80's this afternoon, with a chance for a thunderstorm. making it to the mid-70's on tuesday. still a chance for a couple of showers. it's a dry on wednesday, the temperature will that cost average. -and 69 degrees. -- high around 69 degrees. there will be rain in the picture and it will cool off

dramatically. high temperatures on friday will likely be in the mid-fifties. it will clear up by the time we hit the weekend temperatures by the the 70's time we get to sunday. >> in the "medical alert," a new study confirms that race plays a role in breast cancer treatment, but experts are not sure why . the study finds that african- american and hispanic women are less likely to receive recommended or model therapy or chemotherapy when compared to white women -- recommended a hormonal therapy or chemotherapy compared to white women. they say that more effort is needed to make sure that all women with the disease that the treatment they need. in 2007, the food and drug administration warned parents not to give young children cold and cough medicine. now, nearly three years later, a new report is showing that a lot parents still don't know about

the dangers of giving kids these drugs. >> they all had a fever and then they developed a cough. it was a belief copper -- really deep cough in the long street it was scary to hear it. >> when her children came down with the flu, she was concerned about treating them very over- the-counter cold and cough medicines had been deemed harmful for children under the age of 6. >> we had to give a lot of chicken noodle soup, orange juice, as much as we could. >> well aware of the recent changes and fda guidelines, a new study shows that 2/3 of parents they have no idea of the risks of cold and cough medicines. >> medications that side

effects. cough and cold medications are not necessarily montford younger children, even though that is what -- not necessarily meant for younger children, even though that is what it says on the bottom. >> side effects include increased heart rate and convulsions. there is debate about whether these are effective for children under the age of two. parents should focus on prevention. >> making sure that they wash their hands, that the children wash their hands, and when they cough, cough into the den of their shoulder -- bend of the shoulder as opposed to in their hand. >> but it can be virtually impossible to avoid terms. when children to become sick, give them a fever reducer. a lukewarm bath can also help. when it comes to coughing and sneezing, there is not a whole lot parents can do. a humidifier can relieve

andy harris' extreme ideas will cost us. two governors, two different approaches. even in good times bob ehrlich didn't make education a priority. he increased college tuition by 40%, cut school construction by $200 million, and ehrlich voted to eliminate the department of education while serving in congress. but in the toughest of times, martin o'malley has made record investments in public schools, new school construction, and o'malley froze college tuition four years in a row. with martin o'malley, our children always come first.
