look. they spent 69 days under the ground. each was treated with cheers and applause. president obama has been watching the rescue and he along with many others are applauding the work of the rescuers. a company in annapolis has helped ensure their safe return by using their technology to monitor their health underground. >> the technology has been around for five years. it's called a physiological status monitor. it measures heart rate, free the and skin temperatures. -- breezing and skin temperatures. >> the strap those around my midsection. also imbedded is an accelerometer. >> the miners trapped

underground have been taking turns wearing the physiological status monitor. they sent 15 several weeks ago. doctors on the surface monitor their signs during mandatory exercise time to make sure they were doing okay physically. >> you can monitor heart rate and body temperature, breathing. it gives some indication how the guy is doing on his ascent and they can take various actions. >> the information is sent to a computer and is easy to reformat. this technology is typically used for people doing jobs in hard environments, but folks here are glad it helped in this situation. >> it gives peace of mind that they know they're being monitored by a physician.

>> police say a maryland man died after a double shooting just after 6:00 this morning. they found to employees of gunshot wounds. a 51-year-old died of his injuries and the other victim is listed in good conditions -- good condition. the suspect is on the list but witnesses say he is wearing -- >> a little girl walking home from a park says she was sexually assaulted. she said she was leaving the area in colombia and police say four men grabbed for and sexually assaulted her. the little girl reported the incident to a family member and they say the men left on the scooters or a bicycle. police say if you have any information, give them a call. police are investigating a deadly accident involving a pedestrian. it happened this morning just before 6:30.

s police say a 49-year-old was crossing the street when she was hit by suv. the accident is still under investigation. investigators say a mechanical failure caused the bus to catch fire workers will spend of the next few nights fixing damage. traffic was backed up for miles and people had to leave their cars in the middle of rush hour traffic. police say there's no indication of illegal activity. >> early voting began today for teachers deciding on a new contract. it would tie pay to performance. let's go to northwest baltimore for an update. >> early voting began at about 3:00. it is just wrapping up.

i can tell you it has been a very busy afternoon. teachers have been showing up in droves to cast their votes. there appears to be a lot of concern over the teacher evaluation system. that may have been a deciding factor in how some teachers voted today. some of them we talked to had this to say. thinghink it's a great for teachers. it is a very aggressive proposal and i think it will benefit good teachers. >> they will give us the $1,500 and take 40% tax off the top and the federal government does not tax stipends, so it is a bribe. >> so with good -- would you look at this again? >> i would vote for because allows teachers to have more say so about their own evaluations. >> >> they did not do a good

a chance of showers on friday but the emphasis will be gusty winds. highs only in the fifties and low 60s. sunny skies which is great news for the baltimore running festival. but what you don't see are the strong winds that will continue to the early part of the weekend. one-half or two and half inches of rain possible into southern maryland. you can see the blue region fairly common through friday, indicating rain. looks like a pretty good so per one thing gets here. heavy rain possible with highs in the '50s and a small craft advisory tomorrow afternoon as the wind begins to increase. rain and0's with heavy a little milder but not by much. lower temperatures and the ocean is still warm so with the wind

bob ehrlich says he wants to fix maryland. but he increased state spending by record amounts. ehrlich raised $3 billion in taxes and fees... including property taxes... and a 40% increase in college tuition. and now he's made over $1 billion in new promises... with no plans to pay for them... except for cutting education. cuts that will lay off teachers and increase class sizes. that's not a budget. and bob ehrlich's not the kind of leader... we can trust.
