public-school teachers are casting their votes in what is being called a landmark contract. we have been following the story and go live to the pauli western conference for the latest. >> boating has started. -- voting has started. the voting today from noon to 3:00 began yesterday with the early voting. i have with me the president of the baltimore teachers union. your sense about how things will go today? >> it will go well. i see a large turnout, and that is a good thing. >> what happens in the event that it is approved today? >> it goes to the board, they approved it, and we go from there. the contract is retroactive, so teachers can look forward to receiving their retroactive pay soon. >> questions still about

evaluation, about where the money is coming from. what do you hear most, and what are your answers? >> questions about the evaluation, which is right now the same as they had last year. the state is developing a template for an evaluation, and we are sitting at the table, so we want to shape how it looks. we want to be at that table and make sure that it is fair and just for teachers. >> to this moment, you are still answering questions. you are answering more questions after the vote? >> there is always going to be some questions. there are questions we did not think of that they are thinking of, so there will always be questions, and we are here to answer them. >> mary english, president of the baltimore teachers union.

investigating what they believe to be a murder/suicide. police say they responded to calls of several shots fired in the area. when they arrived, they found a 48-year-old man in his driveway suffering from a gunshot wound. he was pronounced dead at the scene. this morning, police found the body of the man believed to be a suspect. >> the preliminary investigation is that these two new each other, had previously been neighbors and that there was some type of dispute between them, but that is -- that information is still being developed at this time. >> police have not released the identity of the suspect. the latest on this developing story tonight at 5:00 and 6:00. a late-night shooting in west baltimore turns deadly. police say a man was shot in the 800 block of brice street. he was taken to shop, where he

died. still no word on a suspect or a possible motive. police are looking for a group of suspects they say sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl in colombia. investigators say four men grabbed the girl, assaulting her, and fled on motor scooters and a bicycle. anyone with information is asked to call for 10-313-stop. testimony continues today in the trial of a man accused of killing his wife. tracy disappeared five years ago while on her way to a motley crew concert. prosecutors say dennis killed his wife out of jealousy after learning she was having an affair. the latest on today's proceedings tonight at 5:00. energizing young voters -- that

>> the world is responding to the dramatic rescues of 33 chilean miners trapped underground for more than two months. jubilation filled the air as one by one each of them and was hoisted to safety and into the welcome arms of family members. >> it is truly one of the best days here where there is finally a sense of calm here, a real peace after 10 long and excruciating weeks. families are starting to pack up, go back home and get back to their lives with their loved ones now safe. for the next 48 hours, they remain for observation at the

nearby hospital, undergoing any medical treatment they may need, but they are given a clean bill of health, they will be given permission to go home back to their ordinary lives, although their lives now forever changed. these men international celebrities, many of them considered superheros worldwide. the last minute to be pulled out, known as the captain. >> we had the strength, the spirit, the courage to fight for our lives, fight for our families. that was what was most magnificent. >> it took less than 22 hours for the full rescue operation to be completed. at the end of the day, the rescuers who remained and were pulled out overnight were holding up this sign, which said, "mission accomplished." that pretty much said it all.

"school pride" went into different schools across the nation and asked different communities to come to gather and the kids and the teachers to help us renovate schools. we had over 50,000 people showed up and paint and clean. it was very fun, actually. >> it sounds like fun and it sounds like you have a lot of good people working with you. >> i do. i have great people. our host, has a lot of dynamic personalities on the show that really bring something special.

afternoon. eventually, a lot of this will be sliding for the east this evening, and the storm will start to taper off, but the development is going to occur offshore, and this will turn into the season's first nor'easter, which will be much of a problem for new england. they are even beginning to see some sunshine, but we are watching for additional grain developments down to our south west, so we are not done yet with the precipitation. temperature-wise, we have easterly winds and clouds and rain all holding temperatures down. let's look at what those temperatures are. 55 at the airport. a little warmer right along the coast. again, the water is relatively warm, so that is holding the temperature up. more northerly wind in maryland where the temperatures are in the upper 40's right now. here is the satellite picture

again. some breaks in the clouds once you get out into west virginia and parts of virginia. here is a type of front between these two low pressure centers. we have these normally winds reaching into the western part of our viewing area, and to the east of this front, each of the winds coming off the ocean. it is this difference that is going to start this circulation pattern which will get this low pressure going offshore and produced a storm system that eventually will become a nor'easter, but our main chances are today. in the tropics, we have paula, the tropical storm. the top is going to be sheared off, so it will be a problem down in cuba only. for us, re unlikely, chilly. 56 to 61 for the high. by tomorrow, only spotty showers or two. sunshine, breezy.
