a mix of sun and clouds. i will detail all that including the weekend weather in just a minute. we want to check the traffic situation. we have dry pavement. that will change things. >> we do have dry conditions. that seems to be helping our morning commute. there is a fuel spill northbound 95 and hanover street. otherwise, looking very nice around the area. 11 minutes on the topside and west side of the beltway. looking very nice out there. this is the west side of the beltway at liberty road. volume is building but no delays reported. this is 95 and north and southbound are looking good at this hour. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> our big story, it has been called progressive and a landmark proposal by some. >> the majority of baltimore

city teachers have a different word to describe their new contract -- unacceptable. the vote was spurred which would have tied teachers' pay to classroom performance. there was two days of reporting. tim tooten sampled some of the discussion. >> you sold us out. >> we will not benefit from this. >> there was nothing good to say about the contract, especially anything that had to do with teacher evaluation. >> who is the principle? who is in the inner circle of? >> this was a group of teachers stannic in a long line at this high school. some said how they voted would become a ballot box indecision. >> for me, i may not working right now, honestly.

i'm still taking time and praying. >> there were a few teachers who tried to hold up the contract vote, saying there was a need for more time to review the document. >> this is more of a summary of a contract. this is a huge step in a different direction. >> the union president made a pitch to pass the contract. >> you're saying you're willing to come back and you have more questions. >> answer any questions anybody has. we're willing to do that. >> the language in the contract could not have been clearer to some teachers of. >> a rare -- a rep explained everything. she spoke with us and allowed questions on any topic that was discussed. >> she made sure all the questions we had four entered. we feel more comfortable coming

into the voting. >> tim tooten, wbal-tv 11 news. >> there will be a press conference at 8:30 this morning. >> a fight in a high school ends in a vicious attack and charges filed against three female students. police say three girls approached a second pair of girls, exchanged words, and they fight erupted. a cup of bleach was thrown in the face of a girl. >> we were told it was bleached, rubbing alcohol, and pine sol. >> there were teachers there immediately. they were thrown to the ground as well. >> the victim's mother said the girl had been threatened by the suspects days ahead. the three were charged with

disorderly conduct. two teenagers are being charged as adults after a fight. 815-year-old student was attacked last wednesday. -- a 15-year-old student was attacked last wednesday. >> a fire least a family of three to pick up the pieces in crownsville. it took firefighters more than an hour to control the blaze. a neighbor is credited with getting the family out safely. >> we call for the american red cross. the house is 100% destroyed. it is under investigation. >> one firefighter was taken to the hospital for unspecified injuries. a fire gutted another home, this time in zero winds mills. but the time firefighters arrived, the home was

completely engulfed in flames. nobody was hurt. >> prosecution is expected to wrap up its case against dennis tetso, accused of murdering his wife in 2005. neighbors testified about strange behavior by the husband, including accusations he ripped down a missing persons fliers regarding his wife's disappearance. tracey tetso's body has never been found. >> the latest round of campaign ads has the candidates continue to taking aim at each other. it is taking its toll on the voters. voters said the overwhelming tone they got from the campaign is a hostile. >> i heard the ads and all the bickering and st. what is wrong

camp. they are all running the race tomorrow. thank you for joining us this morning. this is your first half marathon ever. what made you decide you wanted to do this? >> if i did not really know. a little bit of craziness. it lastlly enjoyed year. i really wasn't a runner occurred i am still not quite a runner. i thought the half would be ok to do. we connected over fees -- over facebook and found out they were also runners. we are at various stages in our running career. >> you live here in maryland and these ladies live in massachusetts. you had not seen each other in 20 years until this morning. >> it was great. it has been a while. we talked on the computer all the time. i feel like i saw them

almost 6:14. is beautiful outside. looks like the emerald city out there. at least is not raining this morning. all the rain we had yesterday has moved up to new england. it is strengthening into a nor'easter out there. some very strong winds around there. some of the windy conditions are dragging in a weather disturbance out to the west. there are some showers in ohio, west virginia, pennsylvania, and a few sprinkles in western maryland, garrett county. a kind of dissipates into the mountains. we do have a threat to date with this disturbance floating around the western edges of this storm that could produce something during the day today. it is not a major component. take a look at what is going on outside.

50 in annapolis. 54 in cambridge. westminster, 46. petersburg, west virginia, 39 this morning. temperatures will climb through the 50's and breaking into the 60's or so. how deep into the 60's will depend on the right time of the day and how much cloud cover is out there. here is a picture of the clouds this morning. it is not the ready type of clouds that they are getting in new england right now. the wind will pick up around midmorning or so and with us into the afternoon. as the answer heats up, some instability with is a disturbance on the back side of this storm. that will enhance the chance for some widely scattered sprinkles or showers. otherwise, cloud, son, and windy. 59 to 65 today. the wind will be gusting up to 35 miles per hour.

we see some of the showers around. greater chances perhaps to the south of us. we are in the way of it. once we get into saturday, things looked high and dry. a few sprinkles in the mountains to the west. a lot of sunshine this weekend coming our way. the temperature will be at or below the average for this season, which is in the upper 60s or so. there is a marathon race tomorrow. the under armour running event downtown. we expect temperatures downtown to be in the low 50's. upper 50's by 10:00 a.m. and broaching 60 by noon time with plenty of sunshine. it will still be a bit of a breeze on saturday as well. by sunday, 70 and sunny skies. we put some rain back into the forecast by tuesday. >> the major roadways are not looking too bad. northbound 95 just pass key

highway, there is a report of a disabled truck and the fuel spill blocking the right lane. otherwise, we're looking ok on the major roadways. 57 miiles per hour on the harrisburg expressway. 67 in the northwest corner of the beltway. this is the topside of the beltway. harford road, things moving just fine. very light volume for this time of the morning. this is 95 at the fort mchenry toll plaza. things are moving smoothly, as well. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> after spending two months a half mile underground, it only took one day for those miners to be released from the hospital. more expected to be released today. all 33 men aren't surprisingly

good health. some amazing pictures out of rhode island where a mill went up in flames. firefighters took more than eight hours to extinguish this fire. the structure was built in 1847 and was mostly vacant. apartments were evacuated as a precaution. because of the fire remains under investigation. the hoover dam bypass is complete. the bridge drastically cuts down the trip between arizona and nevada. motorists will no longer have to make the way across the dam and the security checkpoints. the bridge officially opens to traffic next week. >> another company is planning to sell the ipad. verizon will start telling the

ipad beginning october 28. it will also offer data plans for $20 a month. that will break at&t's exclusive hold. breadbox is making a move into video game rentals. the games will go on sale in kiosks later this month. rentals will begin in the west, midwest, and atlantic coasts. xbox 36 the end nintendo 360 games will cost $2 a day. more mothers are feeling the pressure. jane king has that story and more in this morning's bloomberg business report. >> more mothers are feeling money pressure. 90% of those surveyed said it wants to contribute more financially to their household. the majority are not satisfied with their education or skills

tell." kate amara joins us with more. >> the president wants congress to repeal this altered the defense apartment has ordered commanders to abide by the judge's ruling. a court battle brewing over "don't ask, don't tell." this week, a california judge ordered an immediate worldwide injunction on the ban on openly gay service members. the justice department is appealing, and the administration wants the law to remain in place during the process. >> the president has been active in encouraging and imploring congress to do the right thing and end a harmful, discriminatory, unjust law. [cheers] >> despite the legal challenge, president obama is making it clear he plans to do away with "don't ask, don't tell." >> we are moving in the direction of ending this policy. this is not a question of

a feud appears to have turned deadly in county -- in carroll county. shots were fired around 5000 block of pilgrim lane in pope -- in figs bird. they found steven focht lying dead in his driveway. police are still trying to figure out what sparked this dispute. they think it stem from a typical neighborhood argument, so be like cutting the grass. the body of gregory martin was found after 7:00 a.m. yesterday morning. police say they have recovered a handgun at the scene because it will been has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for helping her husband steal her children's identity. the woman and husband have been getting credit cards in the name of the children who are too, for, and six years old. the man was sentenced to one year in jail. the incident occurred when she was abusing drugs.

termination program. >> determination is the american cancer society's insurance program. they work with runners to run their first full or half marathon and work with them to raise money but to meet their fitness goals. >> and your aunt is coming down to support you. she will be cheering along with your parents. your aunt just discovered shoe has breast cancer. >> she has had surgery and has been doing fantastic since then. i will be running in honor of her and other people who have been diagnosed with cancer who are not able to run themselves. >> how excited are you? we have an accident at reisterstown road. that is something to watch for. this is the northwest corner of the beltway. old court road per in looks like things are moving fine despite the report of an accident. 95 at 395, a disabled truck is now cleared in that area. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> yesterday morning the low pressure and the storm to our west moved across us and out is up near cape cod. this morning it is doing but that is getting all of that rain, especially in massachusetts, vermont, new hampshire, and maine. a weather disturbance on the backside of the storm. a few sprinkles worked their way into parts of west virginia and garrett county. this disturbance will be moving across today appeared we might generate a few clouds and maybe a sprinkle or something like that.

but nothing like they are getting in it new england or like we had yesterday. annapolis, 50. edgewood, 49. westminster, 46. the temperatures today will be climbing for the 50's and is breaking into the 60's. it depends on how many clouds will develop during the afternoon. there will be and instability in the atmosphere. the mix of sunshine and clouds we have this morning, a low pressure centered around cape cod. the wind is rotating around that low. the low gets stronger and are wind will get stronger and it will become at of the northwest. it will be spinning around that low and we could see a few clouds move in from time to time mixing with the sunshine. summit produced a sprinkle or sharp. clouds, sunshine, and the wind. northwest wind 15 to 25, gusting to 35 at times.

the days are getting short now. we're losing the sunshine before 6:30. the future cash shows the major part of the storm into the -- the future cast shows to major part of the start into new england. it will still be kind of windy on saturday, as well. saturday looks dry. we will see far fewer clouds and more sunshine. then things quiet down by sunday as the storm pulls out of the picture. the forecast is good as we go into the weekend. the marathon is tomorrow. we expect sunshine all morning long for the race. we start out in the low 50's at race time, about 8:00 a.m. by noon time, temperatures climbing into the 70's. 61 today. 64 tomorrow. kind of windy today and tomorrow
