police union members vote thursday on their future, at least for the next couple of years. back in 2009, union officials spent much of the year trying to pin down a contract with the city which was strange when it mayor stephanie rawlings-blake had to make tough budget decisions -- it was strained when the mayor had to make tough budget decisions. the biggest issue has to do with pay cuts. the contract states that in 2011, police would receive an almost 2% pay cut, the equivalent of five days' pay. then in 2012 police would get an extra five paid leave days to make up for that pay cut. >> i think it is fair. i trust the judgment of my team that negotiated with the police union. the police union representatives think it is fair. now is up to the hands of the membership. >> the mayor thinks the contract is the best option right now and the most fair. union officials would not contact -- would not comment, waiting for the final vote

found scanners did not malfunction if used properly, but they could be made safer. high doses of radiation could cause skin burns, cataracts, or even death. a new drug made from a chemical in soya appears to prevent prostate cancer from spreading. researchers at northwestern university say the chemical has worked in animal studies and is now showing benefits in humans. when men with localized prostate cancer took a pill daily for one month prior to surgery, it increases the genes that suppress cancer cells and decreased the ones that enhance them. scientists at the next up is to see if the drug can stop cancer cells from spreading out of the prostate. last nine reported on a study about a sharp increase in the diagnosis of 80 hd in children. a new study finds -- the diagnoses of adhd in children.

>> in tonight's educational work, the u.s. education secretary says he expects maryland will be able to iron out any differences over its race to the top applications. >> we told you earlier this day was in jeopardy of losing $250 million over changes in the teacher evaluation system. tim tooten has an update. >> this is a serious concern. no one, not even the federal government, can say for sure if maryland will be able to eventually cash in on all this education dollars. the snag came over the fine print in a proposal to change how maryland teachers are evaluated. at issue, should the -- 15% or 30% be based on a student's progress? a legislative review committee said it is sticking by 45%.

police officers agree. the harford county sheriff's office has released surveillance video in hopes of catching the suspect who robbed of bellaire gamestopped store. they took off with cash and dozens of copies of a newly released video game. they say the men are believed to be behind a robbery in aberdeen last month. both cases, the suspects got away in a white minivan. prosecutors have dropped and attempted murder charge against a man accused of cutting four people in a bar fight. three students were injured in a fight outside the college park bar. police a 23-yard leonardo ramos was charged based on evidence at the timeram. os is now charged with second -- ramos is charged with second- degree assault.
