pb took the stage of a summit today. where finding ground on the economic front was no easy task. kristin dahlgren joins us now with the details. >> reporter: the stakes were high. it's been the president's goal to double exports within the next year. there were two major areas, first, he was not able to increase a trade deal with south korea. it would have increased exports in beef and autos, but he and the south korean president were unable to meet a deal. second, the g-20 agreed to stop undervaluing their currency. the u.s. accused china of

manipulating its currency to make exports more attractive. but many say the u.s. did the same thing to the dollar last week. the president tried to downplay disagreements. >> there's an instinct to focus on the disagreements, because otherwise, these summits might not be very exciting. it's just a bunch of world leaders sitting around intervening. and so, you know, there's a search for drama. >> reporter: the president insisted the global economy is on the path to recovery. he now heads to tokyo for an economic summit there. >> kristin dahlgren in washington, we appreciate the report. thank you. 4,500 passengers and crew trapped on a cruise ship are happy to be back on dry land with water, electricity and working showers and toilets. >> reporter: the sight that thousands on sea and thousands

violent outbursts against a commuter. the commuter claimed she received bad directions and was attacked after he tried taking a picture when she refeud to give him her name. a union rep claims, quote, she was just trying to defend herself. and in new york, a rockefeller center christmas tradition is once again taking place. a 74-foot tall 12-ton norway spruce will be put up right here at rockefeller plaza. it came from the yard of a new york city firefighter. the lighting ceremony will take place november 30th. now for a look at your national and regional weather, here is nbc meteorologist bill karins with the weather channel forecast. you know, bill, you know it's november, but it still feels too early for all of those. >> it does, but it's coming. it's coming in a hurry, too. it will be arriving this afternoon and be quite a sight.

weatherwise today, what you experienced yesterday, there's a good chance you'll see it again today. that means on the eastern seaboard, clear skies. all the problem weather is back here in the middle of the nation. today, it's more rain. tomorrow, we're going to add some snow to that. today, a lot of heavy rain moving through kansas, oklahoma, north texas, most of iowa will get drenched during the day today. we've had thunderstorms moving out of western cans into central kansas right up interstate 35, across interstate 70 around topeka. expect a wet morning commute and eventually that will move into kansas city. we're expecting 2 to 3 inches of rain in this area today and tonight. the forecast for the middle of the nation is for wet weather but from the southeast of florida up the eastern seaboard, it's a gorgeous friday. that's a look at your forecast. now here is a look at the weather outside your window. look at birmingham, alabama, that's a beautiful day. 75 degrees.

falling 73 points yesterday. the s&p shed five points. the nasdaq dropped 23. taking a look at overseas trading this morning in tokyo, the nikkei lost 136 points while in hong kong, the hang seng plunged 477. on wall street yesterday, investors took a warning from cisco seriously. shares of the tech leader fell to their lowest leader in more than a decade. fears were felt across the board that other tech sector giants may soon follow suit. shares of hewlett packard, ibm and mook row soft were among the hardest hit. keep an eye on shares of disney today. shares of disney started falling after an employee reportedly posting disney's earnings before the closing bell instead of after as planned.

welcome back. let's take you through your weekend forecast. wet weather through the middle of the nation from dallas, oklahoma city back up into minneapolis. ohio valley, tennessee valley, east coast, you look just fine. actually, you look fine even into saturday. finally warm things up a little bit in the mid-atlantic. maybe a chance of snow in minnesota on saturday. some areas around duluth had the possibility of getting a couple inches of snow. by sunday, east coast still looks nice. some of that wet weather will head into new orleans and san antonio. if you're watching us on nbc 4 in washington, d.c., explore the entire week of photography from photojournalists to fine arts. it's part of the citywide celebration known as fotoweek.

that's your "early today" event of the day. >> very nice. now here's a look at this morning's headlines in entertainment. it is one of those increasingly rare weekends where there will be a battle at the box office. denzel washington and up and comer chris cline is an action thriller about a run away freight train carrying toxic chemicals. some experts say it will finish on top with up to $25 million. but others expect a big second weekend from last week's's champ "megamind." it could finish first with around $30 million. seen as a spoiler without a real shot at number one, the debut of "morning glory." it will draw older audiences, but only about $15 million worth. also debuting, the alien invasion offering "skyline" expected to draw $15 million.

finally, a second weekend from "due date" could prove the be the ultimate spoiler for denzel's top office box hopes. this comes to us from philadelphia, pennsylvania, where in nearby lawrenceville, new jersey, one school permitted an all-out school fight for a good cause. over ,500 custard pies were hurled into faces. the sanctioned messy madness helped the school raise more than $10,000 for charity. they may have set a world record for the biggest custard pie fight. something i still want to do, bill. >> i've never been in a full out pie fight myself. >> pie in your face at some point, right. i'm veronica de la cruz. this is "early today," just your first stop of the day today on your nbc station.
