fall off the wagon. we will talk about that with the forecast in a few minutes. now we want to check the traffic. >> good morning, everyone. toward washington you will see a problem on southbound 295 closed at route 198 for a crash clean up. we will watch that for delays. you could see traffic from 32 to that area. so watch out and be aware of it. also in the city a crash at windsor mill and forest park drive. moving to havre de grace we have a route at paradise road and 155. we will give you a live look at 295 in the area of 32. looking ok so far but again be aware of that as you head toward 198 it is closed and they are diverting traffic. harrisburg expressway and shawan moving fine here. that is the latest. back to you. >> the national weather service

confirms it was a twister that touched down in baltimore tuesday night. the f-1 created the worse damage it parkville and baltimore city. hundreds were forced into shelters as homes were deemed unlivable. that brings us to the big story. while many focus on getting their homes cleaned up, insurance officials are warning homeowners to be prepared for possible scams. >> such as fraudulent contractors and repair services. jennifer franciotti is live in northeast baltimore with the details on that and warnings. >> good morning. we are in the dutch village community where you can see damage from wednesday's tornado. although it area is going to be taken care of by the property managers, many homeowners are concerned about scam artists with good reason. we have been told there have been a few possible cons out there. with the destruction homeowners are often overwhelmed. the attorney general office and

standoff in baltimore county yesterday. it began with a shooting in a home in the 9500 block of oak trace away. terrence wilson shot his wife before barricading himself in the home. >> he was walking out of the house suffering from the multiple gunshot wounds as officers pulled up and of course they rendered aid to her and saw to the fact that she was transported to shock trauma. >> police locked down the neighborhood and negotiators attempted to make contact but wilson was found dead in the home about 1:00 yesterday. his wife was last listed in critical but stable condition. >> police in harford county have closed the book on more than 100 cases of thefts from motor vehicles. they say rory leftwich is responsible for breaking into vehicles in harford, baltimore and howard counties. police in anne arundel county make a second arrest in a shooting in a glen burnie pizza shop. shawn anthony johnson is charged

in a death. flores was reportedly visiting a friend at a shop and four men came in and announced a robbery. after telling the suspects to leave flores was shot and killed. one person has been charged and the search continues for the other two involved. >> the first week of the lame duck session is coming to an end and they are in a debate on what is on your dinner plate. democrats want to improve the system but republicans say there are bigger fish to fry. tara mergener is in our washington bureau with more details. >> good morning, stan and mindy. supporters of this bill say it is crucial to keep the american public from getting sick but opponents say the $1.4 billion price tag is too much.

under an agreement announced thursday some of nation's smaller farms would be exempt from a government plan to prevent food borne illness, a plan some democrats say could force them out of business. >> implementing food safety provisions have to be done in a way that supports our small farms, our family farms. >> the legislation now pending in the senate comes in the wake of outbreaks of contaminated foods including eggs and peanuts. it would give the f.d.a. more recall authority, increase inspections and provide stricter standards much >> this goes right to your refrigerator and stove and kitchen as to whether the food is safe. >> still the debate could drag on with top republicans arguing the bill is too expensive and washington has other issues. >> the more important thing we can do to create jobs between now and january 1 is send a message to job creators. >> others are threatening to

>> the temperature downtown is 44 degrees but in outlying areas it is in the 30's. we have mostly clear skies. there are a couple of spotty clouds here and there. most of them are north of us. the satellite/radar showing more clouds in western maryland, pennsylvania and new york state a few snow showers up will. there is a weather disturbance in the upper midwest that will move across the great lakes so they may see a little bit of kn snow today. i will have more coming up. >> covering the nation, a tragic ending in the search for three missing people in ohio. the bodies of tina herman, her son and friend were found near mount vernon yesterday. herman's daughter was found earlier. matthew j. hoffman is charged with kidnapping the girl. it is reported he told them where to look for the bodies. a delta airliner had to make an

emergency landing after a crack appeared on the co-pilot ow's s of the cockpit window. the pilot came on and told them they were going to make an emergency landing in dallas. passengers were calm as the pilot told them about the cracked wind she would. it landed and nobody was hurt. after landing passengers were allowed to go in the cockpit to see the problem for themselves. they were then put on another plane to complete their flight to southern california. >> president obama is headed overseas this morning. he boarded air force won to begin a industry to portugal. days after returning from asia he is travelling to lisbon for two days of meetings with european leaders. on the schedule a summit with the nato members followed by a day of diplomatic meetings with european union representatives much the war in afghanistan, trade and currency issues are topping the agenda. it is now 5:11. 41 degrees. the morning business coming up in the bloomberg business report. >> if you have ever wondered how

marc trains all three lines are on time. for the m.t.a. i'm kurt kroncke. now back to john collins. good morning, john. >> good morning, kurt. we had all of the stormy weather and the tornado damage in northern baltimore city and county next to the city line did turn out to be a tornado, f-1. 100-mile-an-hour winds. 250-yard path, almost a half mile long. 1:35 wednesday morning. here is the radar image. here is the baltimore city limit and there is the line of storms. this little thing is the hook echo that occurred at 1:33 on this i will major from the radar at b.w.i. showing that little tornado that was moving kind of in this direction. not long lived but enough to cause problems there, a lot of damage. they don't have to be big storms to do damage.

guys quiet -- nice quiet morning, nice recovery. 43 at annapolis. 45 cambridge. parkton 41. temperatures at freezing in far western maryland. a couple of clouds. you see the gray here and there but fair weather. clouds producing any precipitation is light. up to the north of us in new york state and pennsylvania big area of high pressure coming in. it will be with us for a while but on the national map all of this stuff going on out in the northwest, there is a storm brewing. by the middle of next week this will start moving through the center of the country and east. so, it could be a little mixed up weather-wise about the middle of next week and beyond and could affect thanksgiving travel. as we get further in the weekend and next week we will have a refine the of the forecast. today looks fine. sunny, slightly cooler than usual. the temperature range upper 40's and low 50's.

future cast shows the dry conditions all the unsettled weather will stay north of us going into the weekend. saturday into sunday we may get a few clouds but no precipitation is in the forecast. all well to the northwest. here is the seven-day forecast. again today right up around 50 for the high, closer to 60 on saturday. mid 50's sunday. so, temperatures up and down but nothing extreme. morning lows in the 30's. monday looks good. temperaturewise even tuesday. but late tuesday into wednesday rain chances come into the picture and we pay see some thunderstorm -- we may see thunderstorm activity on thanksgiving. we will fine-tune that as we get closer. >> american airlines is bringing back happy hour on some flights. starting december 1 it says customers on select flights can get cocktails, wine and beer for five bucks each on flights that depart between 5:00 and 5:59

p.m. that is a $2 discount on liquor and wine and dollar off beer. they say is t thank customers for loyalty. it runs through december. toyota lays a big plan for launching greener vehicles including 11 new. a prius plug-in that may cost as little as $36,000. one of the hybrids will be a compact car with fuel efficiency in excess of 90 per gallon. toyota says it will begin selling a plug-in hybrid based on the preous by 2012. the car unlike a conventional hybrid can be plugged in to enable longer distance driving. if you plan to fly but not before the year end it could be a taxing experience. that is because even if you marry on new year's eve you are married for the entire year. that means you will be taxed at a married rate. you could choose to file jointly

>> 20 minutes before 6:00, friday morning. 44 the temperature downtown but at the airport 38 degrees. we look at the large picture satellite and water vapor satellite imagery the jet stream is dragging in cooler area. no stormy weather. out west in the pacific northwest there is unsettled weather conditions and eventually what is up here will work toward the middle and eastern part of the country. that will be next week. until we get to that the weekend looks fine but we begin to see problems as we approach thanksgiving. we will have somewhat of a detail of that forecast coming

up. the weekend looks good. we will detail that with the insta-weather forecast. >> in our medical alert a simple procedure that destroys nerves in the kidney may help reduce high blood pressure. the surgery was tested on 52 hypertension patients who had not responded to conventional medication. on average there was a significant drop in blood pressure compared it a control group. post patients still needed medication but some were able to reduce doses. it was very small but larger trials are expected. >> health officials are urging adults to get vaccinated against the flu and whooping cough. the c.d.c. represents the flu vaccine for everyone over six months of age but one-third of americans were vaccinated last year. they are worried about whooping cough. california is battling an o

40 on the boardwalk, 41 chestertown. 37 parkton. 30 in far western maryland. these little gray smudges are scattered clouds. nothing significant. the moon was setting this morning and coming through some of the clouds looked nice. big area of high pressure coming in. that is the weekend weather. quiet weather. nice weather. actually, temperatures will bump up a little bit. we look to the pacific northwest there is a big storm in the upper atmosphere and that will shoeul move east. slow progress so it is not until the middle of next week we may get the effects of some of weather coming in. next week is thanksgiving so we will see how that develops. until then, things look pretty good. today gray, slightly cooler, sunny, 48 to 53 the range.
