protests outside of anne arundel county court house in annapolis. people wanted justice for bear bear. >> he should not get away just because he had a bad john. >> the 3-year-old husky was shot at a dog park. keith shepherd was on duty at the park. he fired his weapon at the husky because he believed that bear bear was attacking his dog. they are determining whether his actions were necessary and whether or not his beliefs and actions were reasonable. bear bear started to attack, he said. he shouted at the handler to get the dog. shepherd tried it to get the dog

off. then he decided to give a warning. >> i am a federal police officer. i just discharged a weapon on a dog that was attacking my dog. >> did you kill the dog? >> the handler said he had no time to react. he thought that shepard had pulled out 8 taser and then bear bear was shot in the abdomen. don't wan. >> i did not want this to happen to the dog parks that i go to. but there are non-lethal ways to stop a fight. it did not need to come to a dog dying. >> sheppard said that he was not mauled or injured and neither was his wife. and his dog had no visible injuries.

>> tonight, a local died fighting ring is no more. in the process of breaking it up, and control found several of used and emaciated dog is surrounded by their own waste. >> this is a very disturbing story. authorities say the third floor of that house, in between the ones with the green awning, contains a dogfighting ring. they rescued several animals from inside and tonight investigators say that they have a personal interest in the case. an overwhelming stench permeates from the basement permit trade in the nostrils and triggering the reflex to hold your nose or gag. two of the cages had no lining. the room is dark and dank, the

floor is covered in the feces, surrounded by urine stains. there's no sign of food or water. this dog perhaps still licking his wounds is one of the six that was rescued wednesday. around 9:30 p.m., authorities responded to a dogfighting complaint. ought >> authorities say that a room on the third floor appeals to be the battle ring. sadly, the puppies might have been there for two reasons, training to be fighters were used as bait. >> one of the ways that they train dogs to dogfight is to use stocks that really don't know how to fight and they put it

into the area with the fighting dog. this helps them to build confidence. >> owners will take the teeth out said that it cannot defend itself in a fight. one pit bull was found dead inside a plastic bag. it appeared to have a bite marks on its hind legs. they spotted another dog on the third floor. the neighbors declined to go on camera and they said they had no idea what was going on. there is a school right across the street. >> this is not something that we can do on our own, we need the kennedy's involvement. city police have identified a purchase of interest. -- this is not something that we can do on our own, we need the involvement of the community. >> a football player is accused

of assaulting a female student on campus this week. we are joined live from morgan state with more. >> the war was issued for the unidentified football player who has been removed from the team. the incident happened just outside of the student center and cafeteria late wednesday. officials say that is where a female student was physically attacked by a member of the football team in front of a crowd of witnesses. >> it started off as jovial and then it turned serious. >> the spokesperson said that the female victim refused to medical attention. it took some time before the assault was reported to police. >> the victim failed to identify an assailant so it took about 24 hours before she was willing to come forward. once that happened, then matters

were handled by the campus police. >> alcohol was involved and that the two students knew each other. the university believes that what happened was an isolated incident but they promised a full investigation. >> we take this very seriously, any time that you have a male student involved with some kind of assault on a female student, we take that seriously. >> an update to the story, that student is in central booking tonight charged with second- degree assault with a deadly weapon and that is because he spat on his victim. >> thank you. it is confirmed for the national weather service says that it was indeed a tornado that lasted the baltimore area early wednesday morning. this is what the dutch village

environmentalists are shedding light on a potential problem with compact fluorescent light bulbs. on they save energy but there is a problem. there is mercury. those that wind up in the trash will add mercury to the landfills. >> the federal government has ordered that we all switchover to compact fluorescent light bulbs by 2014. in september, general electric shut down the last incandescent light called factory in the country, in virginia. cfl's use 4-5 milligrams of mercury. that does not alarm scientists. >> it takes so much energy to run an incandescent lamp and,
