what a gorgeous day yesterday? >> temperatures in the low 60's with sunshine. now we will shift the winds from the south to the east, and you will notice a huge difference because of that. temperatures will drop into the low 50's this afternoon. let's look at what's happening now. just a few scattered clouds at the present time. it is going to be a dry day. current temperatures in the upper 30's and low 40's. 42 at the airport. notice the northeast wind there. that's the key to the forecast and why it is going to be significantly cooler today. we expect high temperatures between 50 and 55 instead of the 60's with a mix of sun and clouds. when we come back in a few minutes, we will check the seven-day forecast and see what's on tap for the thanksgiving week. now to the news desk. >> a case of deja vu for a baltimore city family affected by last week's tornado. >> less than three years after their home was destroyed by fire, the family again tried to pick up the pieces. >> this was surreal. i saw this again and -- again.

>> freesia douglas lost everything when a fire destroyed her home. the fire started at a neighboring unit and spread over to hers. douglas says the flames were so bad that she and her kids had to escape through the back of the home. >> with the fire i didn't expect it, because i didn't call the fire. you know, i'm hanging in there. >> after that fire, douglas moved to a nearby unit and started over. not even three years later, she's trying to wrap her head around another disaster. >> i saw the rain, it was raining real hard, and wind and leaves and everything was rolling in through the air. >> a tornado touched down wednesday morning leaving a path of destruction and nearby mount pleasant. although her home wasn't damaged, theresa and her family were evacuated because of a gas threat. >> we did not know we weren't going home that night. and offering up a place to stay, even though i didn't stay in the shelter, just the offer of a

place warm to stay. >> despite losing it all and coming close a second time around, douglas is in good spirits and grateful to the american red cross. >> the american red cross was there for me before anybody came for me. it was good that they caught me and do you need anything? this has been the help that i've gotten since my first tragedy. they just didn't leave me. they came out and helped me once again. >> something her son is also grateful for. they helped us. >> when we came out and sawed the roof off, i knew that was good. when we heard that no one got hurt, we knew god is good. >> the clean-up continues this

weekend for those affected by the tornado. some residents had been allowed back in to retrieve belongings. others were able to get back into their homes. they are still waiting for leg ats to work themselves out so that they can get back in. as you can imagine, some residents are not happy about how long this process has taken. >> nobody has given us answers. we have been out here since this tragedy occurred, you know, trying to look for some way to go. we just -- there is nothing out here for us. >> the red cross is working to keep families safe during the process. it also helps to give the families who lost homes a meal on thanksgiving day. >> and there is continuing coverage of the tornado on our web site. there you can view coverage of the damage, the clean-up, and how you can help some of the victims through a relief fund. >> traffic once again moving on interstate 95 after police shut down all lanes to investigate

the possibility of a suspicious package. authorities say a passenger on board a commercial bus became ill and believed there was an explosive on board. police shut down i-95 between mountain road and route 24 yesterday to investigate, but in the end they found nothing. >> m.t.a. police are investigating an early morning crash in cecil county that happened on route 40. police say a vehicle lost control, struck a -- crashed into a structure near the toll plaza. traffic was redirected for four hours. the victim's name has not been released. >> the search continues for a gunman that shot and killed a 19-year-old man in southwest baltimore. the victim was shot 5:00 saturday evening in the 6 hookup hundred block of swan avenue. he was rushed to a local hospital where he later died. no word on a possible motive. >> also police are investigating a triple shooting that killed a 29-year-old man.

police say they were shot. one man shot in the chest. he died from injuries the -- injuries. the two other men were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. >> a major turning point in the war in afghanistan. president obama said he wants troops to be done with major combat by 2014. the date was agreed upon yesterday in lifment isbon, portugal. >> at their meeting nato leaders announced to end their combat mission by the end of 2014. president obama endorsed the plan but refused to commit u.s. forces to such a firm time-table. >> it is a goal to make sure we are not still engaged in combat operations of the sort we are engaged in now. i will make that determination

once i get there. >> the president planned to pull out troops, but first, he would have to review progress. nato would have to wind down the war over a three-year period. >> i don't foresee troops in a combat role beyond 2014. >> nato's secretary general said the withdrawal would be based on conditions. but he said he is optimistic that withdrawal of security forces is ahead of schedule. meanwhile in afghanistan, taliban forces answered back. bombers on bikes killed four people and injured dozens more in a suicide attack. brian mooar, nbc news, washington. >> and we have a programming note to pass along to you. state controller peter francho will be our guest.

>> a winter snowstorm in parts of the west. california and nevada seeing up to six feet of snow in higher he will vagues. you can see traffic at a standstill on i-80 near lake tahoe. chains helped stranded motorists. parts of wyoming and montmopt also are seeing a lot of snow. up to two feet. it is the same story in northwest washington state where an early morning snowfall blanketed the canadian border. some children greeted the new snow with shreds in hand. also ready to make snow angels. for drivers, it is a different story.

ice ri roads, a number of car accidents reported. they don't usually have that much snow this early in that corner of the state. >> it is going to be way too warm for that on the east coast. we have rain in the seven-day forecast. i'll show you that in just a second. right now, partly cloudy skies. temperatures in the upper 30's and low 40's. 42 at the airport. 35 in parkton. 36 in rising sun. we don't expect precipitation to close the weekend. it is going to be different than yesterday because of a shift in the wind. satellite imaginary picking up the high, thin clouds that i referred to. these are not rain producers, so we don't have to worry about that. we can see a little snow across the u.s.-canadian border. left-overs from the big snow system that barry was talking about a few moments ago, and that is all going to stay west of us at least in the short term. this snowstorm may give us rain as we head toward the middle of

the week as we head toward thanksgiving. in the short term, high pressure is going to block that from coming in. the winds have shifted, as it circulates around as it shifts from the east and northeast. because of that, the temperatures will drop about 10 degrees. we managed to get in the 50's yesterday, and i think we'll be in the 60's. still not bad. the high temperatures between 50 and 55. sunrise coming up this morning three minutes before 7:00. partly cloudy tonight. areas of fog will develop after midnight. temperatures will drop back into the low 40's. sunset at 4:45. let's look at the futurecast. there could be a few clouds, but i doubt if there will be rain or precipitation on monday. the winds are going to shift back to the southwest. that's a good thing. it means the temperatures will warm up. as we head into tuesday, we will be watching the system coming in across the ohio valley, a cold

donations. >> connie says right now they need everything from turkeys to canned food in order to put the meal on that feeds 10's of thousands in the city. >> we still need big cans, the number 10 cans of string beans, corn, mashed potatos, stuffing in order to ensure that the meal will go. right now we have enough food to feed maybe 1,000 to 2,000 people where we anticipate that we're going to have to feed out over 40,000 meals. >> after the meal, folks in need usually get to walk away with a bag like this filled with enough food to last for five days. with the meal in jeopardy this year, this could be a luxury they will not be able to afford. they say the economy has increased the need and decreased the donations. while they say the center has struggled before, it has never been this bad. so they will be accepting donations around the clock. >> we will be open 24 hours.

>> welcome back to "11 news sunday morning". thank you for joining us. >> it is going to be dry, but about 10 degrees cooler. yesterday was in the low 60's. that is unusual for this time of year. we're going to shift the winds to east and throw a few clouds in the picture and drop a few temperatures. let's take a look at current conditions. right now we're in the upper 30's and low 40's. right now it is 32 at the airport. the northeast wind is the key. yesterday winds were coming out of the southwest. if you shift the winds to the northeast, it makes a big difference.

when you shift the winds from the south to the east, temperatures usually drop, and that will be the case today. temperature-wise, in the northern suburbs we manage to drop. same thing in rising town. it is in the mid 30's up there. these are not rain or snow producing clouds. there is no precipitation on the east coast. you will see cloud cover. we have an area of high pressure off to the great lakes that will actually take control of the weather over the next 24 hours. what it has done is shifted the winds toward the northeast as opposed to the southwest like yesterday. we are going to have to take off a good 10 degrees. yesterday we were in the low 60's. today we'll be in the low 60's with a touch of cloud cover. we'll call it a mix of sun and clouds. not as nice as yesterday. high temperatures between 50 and 55. sunrise at 6:57. partly cloudy tonight. areas of fog will develop late tonight. temperatures drop back into the low 40's. sunset at 4:48.

>> for many people, they are still cleaning up after devastating floods this past summer. one family is thankful for serble help rebuilding their home. this morning, 11 news reporter jay gray takes us to a re-opened house party. >> a home full of family, friends, and food. it is the kind of security she was looking for when she moved to nashville with her daughter ro sifment e 4 1/2 years ago just after her husband mike a new york area firefighter lost his battle with cancer. that security, though, was ripped away along with her home during the floods back in may. but the water that rushed across the banks of the cumberland river could not dampen clare beach's spirit. >> she lost her house, she lost her husband. you know, it was a day that we

>> wind gusts of 80 miles an hour left many homeless mostly in northeast baltimore and parkville. swift response by county officials and emergency responders provided temporary assistance for those in need. officials have condemned 15 apartment buildings and more than 350 other units were damaged. county officials say92 homes were damaged. despite the damage, no lives were lost. while there were some injuries, none are life-threatening. as we approach the holiday season, some of these families will still be recovering from their losses.

so it is usually not a big deal to go into the settings on facebook and actually unfriend them. blocking is it another option you have that would go a step beyond to prevent them from viewing anything about your profile. the big part is making sure your information is controlled to the public at large. >> that's the danger, isn't it? >> yes. >> you are not who has the information at that point. blocking is only so good because it will block a person when they are signed in, but if anyone else can see anything, what good is it? so going to privacy settings and changing what information is publicably available. by default you would be surprised by the amount of information that can actually be seen. you can actually lower it down so you can't even see any of your -- you can only see your name, basically. >> how do you do that for those that may not understand exactly how to unfriend. >> there is a big button at the top of facebook that says "settings" and one of the main options is privacy.

drink so much so fast, they are literally over-dosing on alcohol. this is a lot of alcohol to drink. and the way kids drink, we are seeing them with alcohol poisoning, and the energy drink gives you this false sense that you are awake. so you either drink more or you try to drive a car. and it is a deadly combination, and to put in a can that sells for $3? teenagers want alcohol that's cheap, easy to get, and they can get a lot of it. this made it very easy. so we're glad they are taking this product off. but it doesn't solve the problem. young people have been mixing energy drinks with alcohol for years they will continue to. the solution is really education. i talk to these young people all the time. they don't understand the dangers of energy drink and alcohol. they don't understand what it does to their body.

just banning it, while it is good to get these off the shelf, i gaurn you in a month, you will have a for loco and sell a red bull with the same thing. it is not the total solution. we shouldn't feel so relacked. while the politicians have stepped in, the f.d.a. stepped in, parents, colleges, high schools, coaches, they all need to step up now and begin educating about why did we do this and what's the dangers? >> what do young people say when you tell them what this does? >> they know that they want to get drunk. drinking is so accepted these days. we lost 2,000 college students last year to alcohol. we saw the horrible tragedy with yeardley love and what happened at the university of virginia. all alcohol related. it is a part of their life. we need to step in and educate them that this is not safe, that you not only can get in trouble,

but what it does to your health. they have seen their peers enup in the hospital, dying -- end up in the hospital, dying in a car crash, overdose. get beat up, get raped. they are aware of alcohol, but they don't understand the dangers. >> what do you think of changing that age from 21 to 18 is a complicate matters when it comes to kids and alcohol. what do you think of that? has it made it more -- something that he wanted to get at sooner. >> i always knock off three years, and that's the group that's going to be most affected. it is 21 now, we see 17-18-year-olds. you knock it to 18-year-old and we'll see 14 and 15-year-olds. it doesn't solve the problem. dropping the age down will increase the amount of use. what we are not doing enough of is good education. we're not getting parents involved enough. we are not letting them understand the dangers of what they are doing.

>> wind gusts of 80 miles per hour left behind 250 people homeless. the storm pulled up moves, trees, thousands of homes without power in northeast baltimore. county officials and emergency responders have provided temporary shelter and assistance reserves. condensing 15 apartment buildings, 350 other units were damaged. officials declared 19 homes damaged. while there were some injuries, none are life-threatening. as we approach the holiday season, some of these families are still going to be recovering from the loss. we are joining to ask you to make contributions to the disaster relief fund of northeast baltimore. the owner of one of the apartment complexes affected has started the fund with
