since the fire that took those six lives. neighbors knew the victims home as a place to find a friendly ile and a helping hand. victims include great grandparents, their daughter, and three children. >> they were just pretty and beautiful children. i mean, and to see six bodies to die in a fire around the holidays is just overwhelming for me. >> our friends and family. that's the strongest thing we have right now. god bless us. that's all we have right now. and just hold on. that is all we can do. just hold and keep each other close. >> this is a neighborhood that is heartbroken this morning. those grandparents have lived here for about 20 years. as for what caused this fire, authorities do not know. they do not think there were any working smoke detectors in the home at the time of the fire.

he faces dismissal from the army. >> the tax cut a deal is expected to clear its first hurdle today. kate amara joins us live from our washington ibureau with the story. >> good morning. it is expected to easily pass in the senate today. the real test comes next in the house. the senate still working on that tax deal president obama hammered out with republicans, moving to pass the package that would prevent an income tax increase on new year's day. >> at this stage, there may be a few amendments that some of the republicans have offered today. they may be at 67 votes to pass. i think there could be two or three of those, that's all. >> the bill to extend the bush- era tax cuts and renew jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed is expected to sail through the senate on a final vote today. then it is on to debate and vote in the house. president obama has been working the phones to get house democrats onboard. >> i will simply say that i think the president has had

some good conversations, and i think we're on a path toward getting this agreement through the house and ultimately to the president's desk. >> but some liberals strongly oppose easing the estate tax on the wealthy. house democrats say they may tweak the measure, drawing a warning from sentate republicans. >> with regard to the tax issue, let me just reiterate once again that this agreement is not subject to being reopened. in other words, we have an understanding. >> there is also a new cry from conservatives that this just costs too much. but even critics of the compromise say it is likely to pass as is. in washington, i am kate amara reporting. back to you. >> thank you. the wind is not quite as strong today. the wind is gusting about 15 miles per hour. yesterday it was gusting 25 miles per hour. that is enough to put the wind chill down into the single digits. it feels like 7 at the airport and six in westminster. especially the kids that have to stand out at the bus stop. snowve lake-defecteffect out to the west. i think we'll see more sunshine today than yesterday. breezy and cold is still the forecast. high temperature between 27 and 32 per it will feel colder because of the wind. polyclitus guys tonight. temperatures drop back to near 20. a system will pass down to our south. we'll get on the northern fringe of this precipitation shield.

it will last into tomorrow evening. it will be light snow or flurries. there could be some minor accumulations. half an inch or an inch at worst. most of you will see less than that and more like a dusting if anything else. light snow is possible on thursday with a high near 31. dry on friday, 38. another storm is coming up the coast on saturday. some computer models say lot of snow. we'll keep an eye on that and we will keep it in the forecast. the forecast could change for the upcoming weekend. let's see what is happening on the roads. >> good morning. we have some problems out there at monroe street and baker street. that is a fire activity. same situation at harford road and pinewood ave.

moving well on the west side. police activity to watch for. 46 miiles per hour on the outer loop. there is more fire activity that could cause you some delays. eastbound 50 at the bay bridge, watch for a disabled vehicle taking up the left lane. this is a live view of traffic on 895. this is southbound traffic. so far running smoothly, although delays are starting to form approaching the beltway. this is perring parkway on the north side and is running freely in both loops. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> a woman trying to load her children into her car is killed after being caught in a crossfire of a shooting of a california strip mall. the gunfire spilled out after the initial gunfire inside a shopping center. five other people were wounded.

the woman's children were not harmed. a tornado ripped through a small town in oregon. witnesses described a funnel cloud destroying three homes. office was chief's also destroyed. this is the fourth tornado in oregon in the past decade. two people survive a spectacular emergency landing in misery. the pilot burned off as much fuel as he could before performing a belly landing in the springfield airport. sparks flew as the airplane skidded to please stop. emergency crews rushed to the side. the passenger and crew rushed out safely. -- the pilot and crew rushed out safely. >> airlines flight for your business.

yesterday. >> george lettis is live in east baltimore with that story. >> the cause of this fire is still under investigation. we are learning more about the six victims. a memorial made by this tight- knit community outside of the homes that burned has grown steadily in the hours since the fire that took six lives, three of them children. >> it was just her smile. >> neighbors knew the victim's home as a place to find a friendly smile and a helping hand. >> i'm sad. they were a beautiful person. god, oh, she was beautiful. i used to go down there when all the children would surround her and everything. she was a beautiful person. i could not believe it. something you can't believe. >> according to family members, the six victims include two grandparents, a mother, and her three children, ages 9, 3, and 1. >> they were just pretty and beautiful children. i mean, and to see six bodies to die in a fire around the

holidays is just overwhelming for me. >> our friends and family. that's the strongest thing we have right now. god bless us. that's all we have right now. and just hold on. that is all we can do. just hold and keep each other close. >> the neighborhood church provided a refuge for the families mourning the loss of their neighbors and displaced from their homes. >> as the day went on, more and more people came from the neighborhood and from their extended families as the word got around that they were here, and so we were very glad to welcome them and help them to come and greet the families. >> this is a small section but you can imagine this community is heartbroken. those grandparents have lived here for 20 years. at this point is not clear if there were any working smoke detectors at in the home.

george lettis, wbal-tv 11 news. >> maryland is giving itself some extra time to come up with some new teacher evaluations part that is good news for the state. after hearing recommendations from state lawmakers and the board of education as to how much of a student's progress should make up a teacher's evaluation, the council will make a final decision. >> that number is frightening to a lot of teachers. it is frightening not because they do not want student growth measured. it is frightening because they are not sure how much control they have over test scores. >> the council has requested permission to delay its decision until june. that evaluation system needs to be in place before maryland's can receive money for the race to the top fund. >> maryland is the wealthiest
