across the country have been called in to put out the blaze. the army corps of engineers is racing to fight a levee breach in iowa. half of hamburg residents have been told to evacuate. meanwhile barriers will rise by five feet. two u.s. soldiers based in germany were treated for suspected e. coli infections. meantime, canada detected its first case of the illness in an ontario man who traveled to germany. in europe at least 22 people have died and more than 2,300 people have been sickened by the e. coli strain. in washington, president obama meets with angela merkel to discuss nato operations in afghanistan and libya. meantime, defense secretary robert gates is wrapping up his farewell visit to the u.s. forces. he retires at the end of the month. gates says that u.s. forces are

he said his twitter account was hacked. he said he will not resign but the question is can he hold onto his job? luke russert has more. >> reporter: after ten days of many questions with few answers representative anthony weiner once again stepped to the microphone and admitted that he has not always been truthful. >> i'm not resigning and i'm going to try go back to work a better person, a better man and i'm going to try to be a better husband, too. >> reporter: minutes after weiner admitted he had inappropriate phone and internet contact with six women over several years nancy pelosi was calling for an investigation by the house ethics committee to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violations of house rules occurred. >> i don't see anything i did that violated rules of the house.

i don't see anything that certainly violated my oath of office to uphold the constitution. >> reporter: for more than a week, weiner misled the country beginning with denials that he sent a lewd photograph to a college student over his twitter account. the picture that went over twitter, is that you? >> i was pranked. i was hacked. i was punk'd. whatever it is. someone sent out a picture. i'm an easy name to make fun of. that's what i think happened again. >> reporter: monday he told a different story. >> last friday i tweeted a photo as a joke to a woman in seattle. once i realized i posted it to twitter i panicked. i took it down and i said that i had been hacked. i continued to stick to the story which was a hugely regrettable mistake. >> reporter: when photographs surfaced online monday weiner was forced to admit more inappropriate behavior. >> over the past few years i have engaged in several inappropriate conversations

conducted over twitter, facebook, e-mail and occasionally on the phone with women i have met online. i have exchanged messages and photos of an explicit nature with about six women over the last three years. for the most part these communications took place before my marriage, though some sadly took place after. >> reporter: absent from weiner's side was his wife, a long-time close adviser to hillary clinton. how close? bill clinton officiated the wedding last july. >> my wife has known about some of the online relationships since before we were married. we spoke frankly about them because -- well, we spoke frankly about them. she didn't know until this morning that i was not telling the truth about the twitter posting last week. >> reporter: despite scandal, weiner says the marriage remains intact. >> she made it clear what i did was dumb and she's not happy about it.

she's disappointed and told me that she loved me and wanted us to, you know, pull through this. >> reporter: weiner maintains he violated no law and claims no government resources were used in the scandal. >> my blackberry is not a government blackberry. my home computer is usually where i did these things. >> reporter: late monday radaronline reported a 40-year-old las vegas blackjack dealer named lisa weiss said weiner contacted her from his office. saying i gave him my number and he called me from his office. we proceeded to talk dirty for at least 30 minutes. >> to be clear i never met any of the women or had physical relationships at any time. >> reporter: an odd twist to the press conference. with weiner running late, conservative blogger andrew breitbart who broke the story last week took to the podium. >> i would like an apology. this was his strategy was to blame me. >> reporter: when he spoke, weiner did apologize to breitbart, one of many apologies

he offered, sometimes fighting back tears. >> i made terrible mistakes that hurt the people i care about the most. i'm deeply sorry. i have not been honest with myself, my family my constituents, my friends and supporters and the media. >> reporter: now whether or not representative weiner can pull through remains to be seen. one interesting caveat of the story, the scandal played out over social networking. twitter and facebook, although harming to his career he said, quote, there is nothing inherently wrong with social media. what i did was the mistake. >> luke russert on capitol hill. thank you so much. joining us is donny deutsch and robbi ludwig. good to have you here. when you watch the press conference, is it too little too late? >> my first reaction is we have to stop being shocked and amazed when men of power who are conquerers by nature also chase

maine on the line. good morning, nancy. >> good morning. >> what's your question for joy? >> my question is i need help getting my diabetes under control. what can i do to keep my blood sugars in check? >> from the food perspective there is two strategic things you can do that i know will help lower your blood sugar. the first thing is to keep a tight lid on all carbohydrates. make sure you choose the ones that are packaged with fiber. so that will be vegetables, fruit and whole grains. more important than that, you want to make sure you include a good amount of protein with all of your meals and snack. that's because protein helps to slow the absorption of carbohydrate in the body and helps to temper your blood sugars. with those things in mind some of the best foods you need to eat are going to be the lean proteins, fish, seafood, skinless poultry, egg whites, tofu, starchy beans and lentils.
