just after 7:30. she was taken to baltimore- washington medical center, where she later died. she was a senior at chesapeake high school. she was a kind soul, she was considerate of others and showed great empathy towards all people. she was a hard-working, motivated student. >> rochelle battle disappeared two years ago, never to be seen again. we are live with more on the case. >> this is the second murder trial in baltimore county recently with nobody. just last year, he was convicted of murdering his wife, her body has never been found. prosecutors are hoping for the same outcome for jason gross. >> 36-year-old jason gross is on

trial. he is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 16-year- old rochelle battle. jury selection took all day wednesday. the judge told jurors that he is accused of killing her in his home. he also asked him if they could be impartial given the fact that the body was never found. despite police searches of dumpsters and a land fill. investigators said she was on her way to meet someone at east point mall when she vanished. over the course of the trial, the prosecution has listed 52 potential witnesses. the defense listed 20. a jury will hear the evidence over the coming weeks and decide jason grows's fate. -- gross's fate. opening statements will start tomorrow morning. >> a half-dozen cases of legionnaires' disease have been

confirmed in ocean city. a lot of those cases turned out to be deadly. the health department says the victim is an elderly person from out of state. the hotel is closed for the season. tests on water collected from various greek -- areas confirmed the presence of the bacteria. health officials say if you stayed at the hotel in september and you are experiencing a pneumonia-like symptoms, you should contact your doctor. >> police are investigating an accident that sent a car into a building. a car ran into this pizza shop. no reports of any injuries. >> the federal bribery case against ulysses currie is starting to wind down. prosecutors plan to rest their case sometime tomorrow. the government called an irs employee to support claims that the senator tried to keep its consulting agreement a secret. david collins is following this

trial and he joins us live with the latest. >> as they get closer to wrapping up their case, prosecutors called a wide variety of witnesses today. prosecutors presented evidence designed to show how shoppers stretch the boundaries of its consulting agreement with state senator ulysses currie. former shoppers executive says yes, he was told that he was hired to help navigate state bureaucracy. he introduced himself in the parking lot of shoppers corporate offices. you want to discuss a budget item with the senator that the data-financial impact. he told the jury, occur is suggested you setup a meeting with them, for the office of the shoppers executive. that executive is one of curry's co-defendants. he testified that he became more uncomfortable with the

relationship at 3 got an e-mail detail in a 2005 indictment of the rhode island senator that worked as a consultant. he says he asked mr. small whether the meeting was ok. he says the question was initially ignored. then he told him that shoppers relationship ulysses currie was cleared by legal. the prosecution called on an irs employee. she said that he reported the end come, he did not attach a 1099 form. the irs pointed out that he attached forms regarding his retirement and legislative pay, but not the one from shoppers. under cross-examination, the irs employees told the jury that he was not required to do that. the senators' lawyers provided a preview of some of their defense strategy. it happened and across the nation of the dick the cross-

in the newsroom. >> this has been talked about for some time, but now it is official. >> we go from 80 to 82 to 98 to 95. >> the new academic policy affects ninth graders' all across the state. the university system of maryland is raising the bar. it believes too many first-year college students are taking remedial courses, especially in math. that is why they're starting to attack the problem in high school. >> we think this is beneficial to the students. a lot of them may be complaining about this right now, but in the long run, this is what is going to make them successful in college and then life. >> under this new policy, a student course work must include algebra one, geometry, and out of the tube. if those courses are completed
