baltimore county. >> senator kerrey's defense team makes them out to be in that. >> this is wbal tv 11 news at 6:00 p.m. >> he was on the run from police in baltimore county, but authorities tracked him down in alabama, and now he is charged with murder. that is our big story tonight. police say larry horton was the last first jersey ryan jackson alive and they put out a warrant for his arrest -- last person to see ryan jackson alive and they put out a warrant for his arrest. >> he was picked up by the mobile, alabama sheriff's department. we were tipped off by a new station in mobile. -- a news station in mobile. >> larry wortman is sitting in an alabama jail, accused of brutally -- larry horton is sitting in an alabama jail,

accused of brutally murdering ryan jackson. thaton's relatives thought he might be in the 700 block of this street and they went there to look for him. >> it is clear that these two people knew each other. they were acquaintances. they were part of a group of people that frequented the rambo court address. >> relatives say they found blood in the home. they held a vigil for ryan last saturday, not knowing that his body had already been found. earlier in the day, police found his body in the 5500 block of pennington ave. police say killer used a hatchett to his body several times. according to court records, horton has been in and out of jail on several charges and was supposed to be under supervised probation in two counties in maryland. >> why was he allowed to leave

the area? >> i will have to talk to detective about that. >> larry horton remains in custody in mobile, alabama. >> police are searching for the gun man that shot a man in milford mill. ernest bill bailes was found inside a vehicle on salt lake drive just after 11:00 p.m. last night. they say citizen discover the man after he was parked illegally. >> and a man is convicted of murder of a 16-year-old girl even though her body has never been found. >> it took the jury less than an hour and a half to find 36-year- old jason gross guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of 16-year-old rochelle battle. this is the second no-body murder conviction here in baltimore.

cracks this family -- >> this family since 2006 has not known where their family member was. today, they got their first measure of closure. >> the prosecutor speaks for the family of rochelle battle after her killer was brought to justice. a tough task for a baltimore county jury thursday, should they convict 36-year-old jason gross of the murder of sheep -- of rochelle battle even though her body was never found? they are passionate closing arguments from the state and defense attorneys. the state cannot which has the appeal battle of bruising -- the uphill battle of proving the case said that they met in a chat room in 2009 and set up a need on the sixth. cellphone records show the two had conversations a number of times before they met and before she went missing, their phone

calls were bounced off the same cellphone tower. jason gross had been caught in several lies and had illegally used an incinerator, which authorities say had been cleaned out. the defense said there's no blood, dna, or fingerprints found in his home or on his property. they also gave testimony from the -- from battle's mother who said that she knew her daughter was sexually active and using drugs with men ages 19 to 23. still, the state said it is confident there was no doubt that gross met up with battle. after meeting at in baltimore, he put her in his truck, where she was never heard from again. >> extended the date has not

been set. -- a sentencing date has not been set. >> in baltimore city policeman is recovering after an accident in west baltimore. police say the officer crashed with a civilian. both are being treated for non- life threatening injuries. because of the accident is still under investigation. >> baltimore county police are investigating an overnight accident that killed a pedestrian. officials say the man was hit by a van near the intersection of eastern and virginia avenue in essex. it happened just after 11:00 p.m. as he tried to cross the street. he was taken to bayview medical center where he later died. we are told the driver remained at the scene. the defense strategy has pretty much been revealed in the federal corruption case against state senator ulysses currie. his attorneys are trying to convince the jury that the senator did not intend to break any laws.

david collins has more details. >> the federal bribery statute contains the word "knowingly," and part of their strategy is to focus on what the defense attorneys say is a lack of intent. that is why they are portraying one of the most powerful elected officials in annapolis as being not very bright and disorganized. the legal team of the center is attempting to dismantle the case of intent. the federal statute has the word "nowlin the" in it. the defense attorneys are planting the seeds of doubt by inferring, at least, did he know what he was doing? >> they are characterizing it as not being smart, disorganized, not paying attention to detail. how does this help its case? >> his actions were done out of carelessness, essentially. >> prosecutors charged under the guise of a consulting agreement, senator ulysses currie was bright, paid $245,000 over a

several year time frame for favors. the defense have acknowledged that this may be a conflict of interest, but not criminal. a former real-estate executive testified that senator ulysses currie's name came up during several corporate meetings. he recalls his name be brought up to arrange meetings with top state officials. during cross-examination, he admitted that he got raises because of the successes that the senator racked up. he cited his relationship with the senator on several job evaluations with his boss. everything from his incomplete financial statements to visit a shopper's cards on tax returns.

the potential is there for another heavy snowfall in these areas. unfortunately, in texas it looks like the dry drought conditions will continue. that will continue over toward florida. here in this area, will have to watch what happens more in the northern atlantic to determine what happens here. but it does look like a cold, snowy, wet weather here and dry and mild across the southwest. here we have a 50/50 shot at getting a winter pattern. typical winter weather is what it looks like for us. in the meantime, fall is coming back. the highs today were just around midnight. low temperatures were more like what we are experiencing now. the rain is holding off to our north and west and clearing skies are expected in the next couple of days. brisk, southwesterly breezes

will clear everything out, but the winds are still gusting. into the fifties around baltimore. oakland, just 36 degrees. rain and wet snow will be the featured therefore tonight and tomorrow. but east of the amounts as high pressure builds income expect dry weather to return. tonight, 41 in the suburbs, 51 downtown. the winds are still strong, but they should be closer t10 miles per hour by morning. as the powerful storm pulls away, the winds will diminish. a big area of high pressure covers half the country and that will provide a nice friday through sunday, just in time for the weekend. from garrett county to ocean city there will be a lot of sunshine saturday and sunday. temperatures tomorrow, a bit below normal. 65 would be normal.
