in the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl. >> live, local, late breaking, this is wbal tv 11 news at 6:00 p.m. >> former governor bob ehrlich was called as a defense witness in the federal corruption case against state senator ulysses currie. former gov. lake is the latest in a series of prominent politicians -- former gov. ehrlich is the latest in a series of prominent politicians call to the stand. >> former governor ehrlich is said he rated his integrity very high. david collins has details. >> former governor bob ehrlich did not volunteer to be here. he was subpoenaed and when he was asked by reporters about being required to show what, he said in so many words, in life, you have to do what is right. >> senator ulysses currie sat expressionless during ehrlich's

brief stint on the witness stand. he was subpoenaed to testify. speaking with reporters after a court appearance, ehrlich said the senate to reach out to win after -- ehrlich said he reached out to and after hearing about the indictment on a radio program. ehrlich was asked whether he had an opinion regarding the senators guilt or innocence. he said he has not been following the trial and has no opinion. he asked -- was out on the witness and whether he knew the senator. he saw of their flight i do. he said he had known him for 25 years. they met at the state house of delegates. ehrlich explained when he was governor, he always found the senator to be a gentleman, "he was willing to work with us on most occasions and it was valuable in that regard, friendly." ehrlich recalled a campaign event in 2002 when the senator passed out. it happened on a hot day in an

open field when ehrlich was making an announcement on a transportation issue. he said the senator had to be taken to the hospital. the defense has brought up a number of health issues. when the defense -- when ehrlich was asked about whether he was honest, he said he had always been honest when dealing with him. when asked about his integrity, he said he had always acted with integrity when dealing with him. he also said that a republican governor was unusual and he was looking for friends. prosecutors only have one question for the former governor. did you know that senator ulysses currie was a paid consultant for shoppers? ehrlich replied, no, i did not. >> he said he had little contact with him when he was elected to

congress, but when he turned -- returned as governor, he thought he had aged. the defense tried to steer him away when talking about political clashes with the senator. closing arguments could occur tuesday. >> thanks, david. it only took the jury a few hours to deliberate over walter bishop, the accused gunmen in the murder for hire scheme in baltimore county. they found him guilty. >> the jury found 29-year-old walter bishop jr. guilty of first-degree murder, guilty murder,conspiracy to commit and guilty of a handgun violation. his own words convicted him. defensesecution and

focused closing arguments on walter bishop jr.'s videotaped confession. while talking to detectives, he admitted being at the gas station on march 10 -- in march, 2010 and shooting the gas station owner several times. "walter bishop made the decision that a man's life was worth the promise of $9,000," the prosecutor said. he only received about $400. they showed pictures of him going to a nearby farm store and buying a pair of gloves before committing the crimes. they again played his confession. >> i went around the corner and a close my eyes and i squeezed the trigger. >> how many times did you squeeze the trigger? >> 3. >> the defense claimed that throughout the trial he was not aware that he was being videotaped. police did not tell him that his

statement could lead to the death penalty. the defense also claims that the victim's wife, carla porter, put bishop under relentless pressure, calling it eight dysfunctional and tragic case. -- other funds -- a dysfunctional and tragic case. her own daughter testified that her father was abusive to her mother. the defense attorney told jurors, we recognize and own up to the responsibility that walter bishop killed mr. porter. he feared that carla porter was in imminent harm. the prosecutors said that no one has the right to plan out and execute him, even if he feared he was abusive. walter bishop testified in his own defense that he felt he was protecting carla porter. >> he was not a very good man.

>> he has never been arrested for anything before. he just got caught up in something he should not have been caught up in. >> that was bishop's friend, steve strauss of addington. he was not pleased with the guilty verdict. tomorrow, the same jury could sentence bishop to death, life in prison without parole, or life in prison. >> baltimore city police need your help in finding the suspects wanted for raping a 14- year-old girl. they said a man in a van -- they say the van they were driving could be the key. here's more on the second rape involving a teenager in a week. >> this latest case, the police say the victim was sexually assaulted in the van after asking for directions. it happened in the conversion van similar to the one in this picture. they are asking everyone to be

on the lookout for a van that is brown and tan with white swirls on the side. it also has curtains on the side and rear windows. on sunday afternoon, the 14- year-old victim got lost in the 1500 block of leslye street in west baltimore. the girl was asking for directions when a van pulled up and offered to give her a ride. instead of taking her to her destination, police say the driver drove a short distance and those inside sexually assaulting her. police think one of the men in the band may have been armed. >> obviously, we are not blaming the victim, but you have to be cautious when engaging in conversation and/or entering a stranger's vehicle. >> police only had a vague description of the driver, but they are working on developing and -- a composite sketch. if you have information, call metro crimestoppers.

roof. and a woman was taken to hospital this morning after her car was introduced to a mcdonald's. it happened in the 6200 block of greenbelt road in prince george's county. fortunately, no one inside the building was injured. the cause of the action is still in -- under investigation. >> a glen burnie man is under arrest for attacking a 70-year- old woman. authorities arrested dionysius venius after the woman said he threw her down and took her purse. police were able to recover the woman's purse with everything inside and she was not hurt. >> there's more news ahead here on 11 news at 6:00 p.m. >> the ravens know they cannot change the conversation about monday night's game swirling around town, but they can change their focus and a half. more on that later in sports.

any protocol, but we are still willing to work with them. but in order to have cooperation it has to be a two- way street. >> wednesday morning cannot protesters -- wednesday morning, protesters played video games on a biggest screen -- on a big screen television. they said they got a notice from the mayor's office claiming that only two people will be able to be in the park after midnight. >> i can only speak for myself. i am not going anywhere. >> there should not be any clashes with police. i think everybody are law- abiding citizens. if the mayor wants to issue a curfew, let her do so. >> the bottom line, those we spoke with said they did not want it to come down to violence or arrests either. >> the police have not been aggressive so far. they have been very nice and accommodating.
