welcome back to "today" on a tuesday morning, first day of november, 011. feels like november here in the northeast. we've got temperatures in the mid-40s, a little snow falling apparently, at least hey it was a foozle, out on the plaza on a beautiful day, i'm matt lauer along with ann curry and al roker and coming up, you see this new video the fbi is releasing about this undercover russian spy ring that they

actually uncovered here in the united states. >> yes. >> it shows a woman who has received quite a bit of international attention, anna chapman, allegedly conducting a spy operation in the states. we'll tell you more about that. and later on, "today's professionals" are back, star, donny and dr. nancy here to discuss more hot topics, including the great debate over spanking -- we're not talking about donny's dates, but -- oh, no! >> busted. >> and more on kim kardashian's pending divorce. okay, and also we're going to get to jill martin's "steals and deals" on everything for women and also what's for your pets. can't wait for that. >> all right. >> meantime -- >> inside natalie is standing by at the news desk with a check of the headlines. >> good morning, everyone. more than 2 million people spent halloween without power in the northeast and outages could persist through at least thursday in some areas following this weekend's rare october

9:04 am
>> reporter: if young anna was not exactly the world's greatest spy posing as a real estate agent today she'd become very good at posing, on the cover of russian "maxim" with a gun and not much else. here she is accidentally dropping a gun in extremely tight clothing and then awkwardly making a guy lose some of his. she's been awarded a top russian state honor and her own tv show about odd mysteries. on a talk show she says she wants a lion and gets one. watch television, she says. i will reveal all secrets. she does have a knack for revealing. though the fbi is unimpressed. when the undercover agent she thinks is a spy boss assigns her an important mission, she sighs, ask's "a short task? how long will it take because i need to like explain. it's just really scary," she says. these days she seems much more

enthusiastic about uncovered, wide open fame. the spy's goal was clearly spelled out, to blend in and develop ties in policymaking circles and a few of them did seem to be getting close to some politically connected people and you know the fbi did once spot anna chapman hanging out at 30 rock so be careful around the plaza, natalie, there could be spies. >> i'm checking around the corner. all right, michelle kosinski, thanks so much. a testle of shocks at a netherland zoo, one elephant pushed neither into a ditch in the enclosure. the 45-year-old broke a tusk in the fall and was injured. on monday he was able to climb out on his own and rejoin the family. zookeepers say he is recovering well. good to hear that. five minutes past the hour. let's turn it over to al with a check of your weather. >> kind of like the makeup room with kathie lee and hoda.
