executive vice president for baseball operations. they are hoping his experience will help them turn around a 14- year losing streak. but he will have to get up to speed quickly. he comes to charm city after nearly 10 years out of the baseball business. his boston run ended after he was fired after the 2002 season. we were there for the announcement. >> i would not be standing here today if i did not believe i could turn disfranchise brown, to get it to be competitive and to a championship as well -- if i did not believe i could turn this franchise around. >> we are told dan duquette spent the past few years running a baseball academy. 900 customers remain without heat or hot water after a contractor broke a gas main. service was cut off to most homes on east ford ave.

this is about as nice as it gets. lots of sunshine. 67 at the airport. temperature will get close to 70 this afternoon just to give you a perspective, the average high temperature is 59. go outside and play and enjoy it and take a walk during lunchtime. we have rain in the seven-day forecast. >> baltimore city fire investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a house fire in northwest baltimore. crews responded to the 1500 block of beaufort ave. the team of firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly. the house suffered major damage but fortunately no one injured. jury deliberations resume today for the corruption trial of state senator ulysses currie. the jury sent its first note, asking whether the defendant could be found guilty of conspiracy if they acted not take place in the alleged time line? the judge told the jury they could render a guilty verdict even if the conspiracy took place after the period of alleged in the indictment.

lawyers for accused killer george huguely will get to view the medical records of yeardley loves. his attorney insists a mix of alcohol and drugs caused her death. she died in an off-campus apartment in charlottesville last year. the trial is set for february. the two pence state officials charged with perjury in a child sex scandal are out on $75,000 bail. the athletic director and senior vice president are accused of covering for former football coach jerry sandusky who is said to have sexually abused eight boys. prosecutors say they are confident more victims will come forward but the attorney for the two say they are disgusted with the allegations. in >> it is unconscionable that the attorney general's office would level such a weak case against a man of integrity

it loves cooler temperatures inside. if you have 60-75, it will love it. >> i planted a high this history in my front yard and it is doing wonderfully. now that it is getting colder, can withstand temperatures? >> tropical had this this will not, and it should come in. i am treating mine like annuals because i did not have room outside. bring them in, nice, bright light, and it ought to make it through until time to go back out. >> i just bought my palo lily outside to protect it from the cold and now it is yellow and wilting. >> some of the other summer bulbs you but outside do have to go through a dormant season so they will probably die back. go ahead and let it do it and then repot it and the march or the first of april, and when all danger of frost is on the input outside. >> another question about the transition of seasons. what kind of pratt do i need to do to keep my asparagus allies

pictures to earthquakes and now tornados -- check out this amazing video of the twister that touchdown monday in oklahoma. at least three buildings were damaged. the tornado came within a few feet of the photographer's karsh. but, please, don't try this at home. the person who shot the video was in a vehicle specially designed to withstand the force of a tornado. i did not know if tony has been that close to a tornado. >> you got to be a brave soul to get that close to a tornado. that storm may be one of the most well-documented we have seen. hundreds of storm chasers on the tornado. that is why there is so much video. they were all packed around a storm. rough couple of days and

oklahoma. here at home it has been as nice as it can get. today we will probably hit 70 this afternoon with lots of sunshine. 67 at the airport. if you are watching us up north, it will be a little cooler, but still outstanding weather for this time of year. hardly a cloudless sky. maybe a few high, thin clouds. brilliant sunshine for the rest of the day. as we expand the view we can see rain off to our west. big thunderstorms through portions of arkansas, missouri, st. louis, and even some snow on the backside in colorado again. this is a dynamic storm system that will come toward us. as it walks its way toward the east coast, it will lose a lot of its punch. i still think we will get some rain out of this but probably not until wednesday night or thursday. by the time it gets over by us there will just be light rain showers provide pressure is protecting us from all of that in the short term. before i get to the seven-day, a

quick update on the storm system of talking about yesterday. some tropical storm sean, sustained winds 45 miles an hour. it is going to stay off shore, and looks like. it is a tropical beach. unusual to have one on the map this time of year but looks like it will stay offshore but if you are going to the beaches the next couple of days, as the storm moves up the coast it could produce big waves and may be dangerous rip currents. other than that, i think it would have little effect on the east coast. this afternoon, high temperatures upper 60's to the low 70's. sunset two minutes before 5:00. partly cloudy tonight. chilly but not cold. temperatures dropping back down to 40. seven-day forecast, adding that will stay dry during the day tomorrow but we could see some rainshowers coming in wednesday night and thursday. is still in the 60's tomorrow. dropping into the 50's thursday and it will be chilly heading into the weekend but dry. we will make a back to the 60's on sunday.

>> in a medical alert, a diagnosis of lung cancer is almost always devastating but perhaps more so when the patient is not a smoker. now researchers at one miami hospital are trying to figure route why more nonsmoking women can get lung cancer than men do. diana gonzalez gives a closer look. >> anna has been working on flying kites for a cure center mother lily died of lung cancer in 2008. >> she was a nonsmoker and nobody in my household smoked. for us, it was a left field diagnosis. we did not understand how she got it. she hated it if people ask for if she smoked because she did not think anybody deserved it. >> looking at lung cancer deaths among nonsmokers, in 2008, 7001 man, 20,000 were women. one in five women diagnosed with

lung cancer never smoked. >> a lot of research is going into it but to be honest we have not yet been able to put our hands exactly on what is causing it. >> the university of miami just started a long screening program using low dose ct scans in an effort to find lung cancer earlier. when it is more curable. while smokers are at highest risk -- >> if you were in a home where your parents work or worked where there was smoking on the job or a spouse, those people should consider being screened. >> the goal is to detect cancer before there are symptoms. lee's were very subtle. >> just a very little cough, very watery. that was it. no pain and nothing else. and the doctor actually diagnosed her with walking pneumonia initially. >> in the past four years, 34- year-old anna raised close to $60,000 to help fight the disease that claims her mother's life.
