voters repealed a state law that limited the bargaining rights of more than 350,000 teachers, firefighters and police officers. and in mississippi, voters rejected a so-called personhood proposal that said life begins at fertilization. defense secretary leanne panetta ordered a review at the military mortuary in dover, delaware, after three supervisors there were disciplined for gross mismanagement. officials say at least twice the mortuary that cares for the nation's war dead lost body parts or remains being sent home from afghanistan. and quite a shock for people at a taco restaurant near atlanta when a deer came crashing through the front door. then it ran into the dining area. you see there, eventually it did wander back out and into nearby woods. maybe it didn't have enough dough for a meal, get it, doe? ha ha. three minutes past the hour. back outside to ann, tamron and

fabrics much like the ones we got natalie here, they're batique, scarves, sarongs and all over the stores at malaysia, hoping that becomes a worldwide trend. ian williams is wearing his story this evening for us. ian? >> it is a very colorful story, amy. >> indeed. >> it's been an education for me this last few days because i knew about batique, it's a tradition here, a craft. i hadn't realized how much was being done with it, how far it had gone. well beyond the night markets and there are exciting and new things and this is my little journey of batique discovery. >> and you have your on style. >> this is the new face of malaysian bati quuque at the pi bamboo boo talk to. a traditional craft embraced by

top end designers. it has come a long way and defined its roots, to find them meaning traveling to the northeast coast we visited the peninsula of trenganu, dominated by small family-run workshops. it is the creation of fabric designs using dye and removable wax. here the boiling wax is applied using stamping blocks, their base crafted into patterns. >> this is an abstract design? >> it's set in flour. >> the cloth is repeatedly waxed and dyed, the wax is resistant to the dye so when it's boiled away it leaves striking designs. this is your veil. >> beautiful. >> feita inherited the business from her father, most are used for traditional malay clothing, sarongs and caftans. the designs are made from old

cooking oil or milk tins, a skill so rare there are three or four people in this entire state, still capable of making them. one of them is sakari binish mail. nearly 40 years in the business he fears that block stamping will die out unless more young people can be encouraged to take it up. because of that and changing fashions, it had looked like batique in malaysia was losing its magic but a government campaign to promote the craft and its adoption by top designers like marina ibrahim have given it new vitality. >> we try to modernize it, you know. we do not want it to be used for just traditional garments. >> reporter: her workshop uses a different technique, applying the wax on stretched fabric over a pen-like design. the dye is applied like painting by numbers before the wax is

ready? >> i'm the first in a series of training evolutions but you know, it takes a lot of work but it takes a lot of input from these guys, these young men put their heart and soul into this to hopefully be rescue swingers. >> how important is it to test them not just physically but mentally? >> the key is you have to remember we are trying to create an artificial stressful environment, so they get in there and come home safely. >> how cold is the water in alaska? >> it varies. >> i know a big stress as well on their families, you know, they of course know the hazards of the job, right? >> the families probably take it the hardest. >> yes. >> that's one thing you have to keep in mind. every good rescuer has a solid support staff behind them. where it starts is with the family. >> good to know you are also part of that team as well. chief and captain, thank you so much. again, you can catch the guys in action on the series premiere of
