in tahrir square. the death toll rises to at least 38. tens of thousands of protesters are calling for an immediate end to the military government. three decades after the drowning of actress natalie wood, los angeles detectives reexamining the case of reportedly spoken with one potential witness for the first time. marilyn wayne says her boat was 90 feet away from the yacht when she heard a drowning woman calling for help. wayne never saw natalie wood in the water but says police should have interviewed her 30 years ago. we're learning about two new child sex abuse allegations against former penn state assistant coach jerry sandusky. the "harrisburg patriot news" reports two cases under investigation are the if, to involve alleged victims who are still younger than the age of 18. if they're found to be credible, it could raise questions about why authorities waited until the end of a three-year grand jury investigation to arrest sandusky. the failure of the deficit

snows, rainfall amounts, anywhere from one to three inches from northern california, into the pacific northwest, with heavier mountain snows and the cascades. airport delays in seattle, portland, san francisco. now we move to the east, up and down the i-95 corridor, rain from florida, all the way up into new england, with heavier snow, moving up into bangor, we're talking some areas picking up 6 to 12 inches of snow or more, and one to two inches of rain along the coast. airport delays, boston, new york city, newark, philly, d.c., atlanta, it will be for gusty, >> another possibility of showers as we head towards this afternoon. it will drop into the 40's in

is a fannie mae or freddie mac? >> it is a freddie mac. >> excellent, great, great news. you are a good candidate for the h.a.r.p. program, a program under which you should be able to refinance that loan to current rates, to like 4%, maybe even lower than 4%. call your lender, tell them you want a h.a.r.p. modification and be persistent. they're still getting their systems in place to do these things but this should work for but >> happy thanksgiving, jay. let's go to stephanie from valencia, california, and on the phone with us. good morning, steph. >> caller: good morning. >> hi. your question? >> caller: yes, i purchased various etfs for my i.r.a. account and doing pretty well. i was wondering with the drastic rise and falls in the market, if i should sell off enough shares to realize my gain and then repurchase more shares of the etfs when there's another dip in the market. >> first of all, sharon, what is an epf, etf i mean?

>> exchange traded fund. stephanie, you never know when if the market dips you'll realize another gain. you may not. it may dip further. you want to see if these are investments that really fit your financial goals. if they do, if it's an etf that right now you'd buy again if you had the chance, just don't sell right now. keep that etf but if there is an asset allocation mix you want to have that may mean selling some of this and buying something else, maybe this is the time to sell it but you just can't time the market. don't try to time right now. >> thanks so much, stephanie. we appreciate that. >> it's okay, i got it. >> e-mail, bobby, dayton, ohio, "my husband and i purchased our first home in 2007 with 30-year mortgage and a 6.5% interest rate, we refinanced last year to a 15-year mortgage and 4% interest rate, we also pay biweekly to help minimize the amount of interest paid over the life of the loan. with the mortgage rates at an

all-time low, should we refinance again?" >> this is a great thing for me, i know a couple of things about the dayton market there. she's taking advantage of the lower rates and paying biweekly, two payments of $600 a month instead of one of $1,200 saves you thousands of dollars and a lot of time over the life of the loan. i understand why it's enticing to possibly want to refinance again. that being said there is a cost to doing so. typically 3% to 6% of your total principle it will cost you to refinance. you want to be careful, do homework and a little bit of math, typical rule of thumb unless you can save 1% of that interest rate, probably not worth it at this point. >> got time for one more, we go to sharon on the phones, she's calling in from columbus, ohio. good morning, sharon. >> reporter: good morning. >> your question? >> my question is, on april 22nd my employer of 25 years filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy and i lost my job and health care as

well as my commissionable sales. i got a new job the end of may but it's on a commission basis and i'm running at an $11,000 debit. unfortunately, i had a fall the end of october, and fractured my ankle and i've been unable to work for the next eight weeks, and i applied for a mortgage loan modification, but was told they wouldn't consider me until i defaulted for three months. this is something i'm definitely not wanting to do, but i have a mortgage -- >> let me get jean on here. >> don't default. don't listen to them when they say you have to do that. go back to your lender, ask again, ask about the h.a.r.p. modification i talked about before and realize, this is only an eight-week window. you want to do whatever you can to tied yourself over that period without defaulting on your loan and without pulling money out of your 401(k), if you can help it. >> happy thanksgiving, good luck, sharon. thank you so much. jean, sharon and courtney, thank you. have a great thanksgiving. >> sure, you too. up next, marlo thomas is

>> i couldn't figure out why he just kept crying. he would throw up. he was really sick. >> reporter: after a few doctor's visits, one immedia pediatrician was determined to find the problem. >> she kept feeling husband hid and asking him questions and decided to send us to a local hospital. >> reporter: a ct revealed a mask, doctors didn't know it was a tumor or brain defect. they told the family at carson's age nothing could be done. >> i can't describe the feeling that i had as a mom. and i didn't want them to take him from me and just can't imagine losing him. >> reporter: after two months of tests, doctors did a biopsy, carson was diagnosed with nodular meduloblastoma, a type of brain cancer. he was referred to st. jude. >> there was nothing you could do for a birth defect and they told me there was something we could do, we would go to st. jude and he had a 30% chance of

survival. >> carson had a specific type of megaloblastoma and we recognize this particular tumor is common in infants, but the outcome for these patients is very good. >> reporter: after the tumor was removed, carson's parents had a tough decision to make, should they allow radiation to maximize his chance of survival? >> we knew that radiation was so hard on babies, because their brain's not developed. >> reporter: carson was given a type of radiation that focused on the tumor alone, while preserving most of his devel developing brain. >> we decided that we could work through any cognitive problems that it caused. we just needed to make sure we had our carson. >> reporter: after treatment, carson developed at a slow but steady pace. his twin brother, cameron, was a huge part of his recovery. >> he had to keep up and figure out what camson is doing. he learned to work and took first steps and now we laugh and say he doesn't know how to walk. he runs everywhere he goes.

>> reporter: despite the amazing progress, more challenges were ahead for carson. earlier this year, a routine mri revealed a second brain cancer. >> i just lost it in the halls of st. jude. >> reporter: the cancer turned out to be meningioma. >> those tumors are characteristic of patients who have had exposure to radiation therapy and most instances curable by surgery. >> reporter: this time radiation was not used. >> pediatric oncology is evolving always. >> reporter: carson bounced back quickly from the surgery. he gives credit to st. jude's. >> take some yucky, yucky stuff out and make me feel better. >> reporter: his parents say that although the radiation may have caused the second tumor, it also very well may have saved carson's life. they don't look back on their decision to allow it. >> as hard as it was going through it, i don't know if i would change anything.

we just never could imagine that he would do the things that he's doing today. look our little smile's back. >> marlo thomas from st. jude's research hospital. it's complicated, radiation saved him and now we have this tumor. what should people take away? >> they need to know that is the standard treatment for megaloblast megaloblastoma. we went from a 30% cure rate to 70% cure rate. the second brain tumor was cured by surgery. you have to take that risk. he's an honor student. his brain is functioning. he's doing twl. with leukemia we stopped in 2000, quit using radiation and developed drugs that were good enough to cure the leukemia without the radiation, and that's what we're doing now, developing new drugs through our genome project to find better

like. >> pour it over. and now it's anthony. >> another alternative to not having turkey. >> although i love my turkey but this is good. >> we debone the short rib. rebrown them off, okay. we're going to use the same pan, a little prosciutto, carrots, celery, fennel, add that all together. we're going to let that brown quickly. once we've done that, short ribs back like this. >> fantastic. >> then we need a little orange zest, lemon zest and a little red pepper. and then we'll add, go ahead. that's barollo, whatever you like and a beef stock, you want to cover three-quarters of the way, and put this in the oven for an hour and a half covered at 350, then an hour after that, uncovered. tomato sauce, yep. >> okay. >> you'll cover this.
