the holidays can sometimes bring out the worst in families. not to mention all the stress of getting everything done on time. a clinical psychologist says a lot of the anxiety and drama of thanksgiving stems from people's desire to make the holidays picture perfect for their loved ones. but in doing so, they may not realize how they hurt others. >> what happens with family -- "you know, mom, you should do this," or, "brother, you should do this. cousin, you ought to do this." and if we reduce the shoulds that we have on people, then we're probably going to be more tolerant, we're going to be more accepting. >> he says that petty fights can also end up leading to big disasters. do not drink too much and table those serious conflicts until after the holiday and try to enjoy being together this thanksgiving. >> hundreds turned out in manhattan to watch the macy's thanksgiving day balloons get pumped up for this morning's

parade. parents and children come to see and about 40 other balloons come to life outside of central park. you can watch the parade right here on tv 11 at 9:00 a.m. >> black friday shopping is creeping into thanksgiving. 23% of black 40 shoppers plan to go to stores at midnight. for store employees, that means cutting their holidays even shorter. this is not a prospect they enjoy. >> my heart goes out to anybody who past to work on thanksgiving. to see real auto workers are on the same level as emergency workers, that is a false argument.

disappeared. the rental car was found in the baltimore area but there was no sign of yulia pogrebenko, until four months later, when her body was found. >> the case was ruled undetermined because it was incomplete. it has been ruled a homicide. >> investigators have named her son a suspect. he robbed a bank in delaware 10 days after his mother went missing. he is the russian national and serving 10 years in a penitentiary in new york. police and not providing any information about the relationship between the mother and son. investigators are not saying who she called. >> this is an active investigation. the detectives are making a lot of progress. this is a complicated case because of the international

component. they are working with russian authorities to put this together. this is a bit of a complex case. >> a baltimore drug kingpin has reached a deal that will send him to prison for the next 20 years. stephen blackwell pleading guilty to eight drug and money- laundering conspiracy. prosecutors say he led drug operations in maryland, new york, and the dominican republic. was a mass shooting at a baltimore barbeque back in 2009 in which police say he was the target. he was also ended news when his two brothers were kidnapped. police believe he was the intended victim. in man accused in the killing of a baltimore county bar owner has pleaded guilty. robert garner was a hit man hired by the martin's wife.

he was owner of the bar in dundalk at the time of the murder. >> paul schurick is charged with using robocalls to try to suppress the black vote in the last gubernatorial election. he has subpoenaed elijah cummings to testify because some voters say they received a different robocall from the congressman. his attorneys deny any notion that his client broke the law. >> where is the conspiracy? you've got hundreds and thousands of documents and the mills and subpoenas. where is the so-called conspiracy? >> the trial is set for february for julius henson. an outside prosecutor will decide whether to file charges against the circuit court.

police say conaway may have pulled a gun against adam meister. the case is being handed over to avoid any conflict of interest. >> a man remains in shock trauma after a shooting in south baltimore. the suspect was brandishing two nuys. -- knives. no word on his condition or what sparked the incident. the president of the police union has been stripped of its powers after being charged with assault. he has been suspended with pay after an internal investigation. he is accused of accosting a driver while dropping off a fair re. westin could face further disciplinary action. >> a couple continues to recover after severe burns.

recognition to baltimore and johns hopkins university for winning the 2011 nobel prize in physics. reiss is the 35th nobel laureate associated with johns hopkins. he will share his $1.5 million prize with two other scientists. the hippodrome art fund and broadway across america announced a new fund to support performances by nonprofit performers with the first grant bringing darin atwater and soulful symphony back to baltimore audiences. the new fund makes the historic west side theater a hub for local arts groups as well as a signature venue for touring artists and marquee productions. we are also thankful for regal cinemas' disability-friendly matinees. on any given night there are 4,000 homeless people in baltimore who are thankful for journey home, baltimore mayor stephanie rawlings-blake's 10- year initiative to end homelessness in baltimore city. the collaborative efforts of public and private agencies provide shelter, healthcare and human services to those struggling so hard to survive their adverse circumstances. on that note, we join kimberly, a once homeless cancer patient,
