two more witnesses before resting its case. one is a fact witness. another is another character witness for paul schurick. the defense attorney says one of the witnesses participated in the campaign to help reach out to black voters during the 2010 election. once both witnesses are finished with their testimony, the defense attorney will argue that the state hasn't met its burden of proof in their charges against scurick. the key advisor for former governor bob ehrlich is accused of authorizing a robocall to illegally persuade african- american voters to stay home during the november 2010 election. schurick has been charged with conspiracy and election fraud. >> we think that there's no evidence whatsoever of any type of conspiracy, no evidence of any criminal conduct. mr. schurick testified and i think his credibility was great. >> the defense attorney does not think the testimony of the last two witnesses will take very long and anticipates the jury could start deliberating soon after that. kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news.

>> jury selection is expected today in the trial of the man accused in the brutal murder of a boy. the man is accused of sexually assaulting and killing the boy back in november of 2009. investigators have not explained what prompted the family friend to allegedly attacked the teenager. >> a house fire killed one person and injured three firefighters. the blaze was spotted friday afternoon in stevensville. a body was found on the floor of the master bedroom. the cause of that fire is not yet known. >> still awaiting identification of the victims involved in a deadly crash on sunday.

one of the vehicles crossed into oncoming traffic, crashing head- on into another vehicle. one person was killed. it is not known what the first vehicle crossed lanes. >> two people are recovering after being shot. they were sitting in a car on saturday night when somebody opened fire. both were taken to the hospital. so far no arrests in the case. >> this will be a week of heavy campaigning for the republican presidential candidates. the gop contenders will be looking to court one group in particular -- former supporters of herman cain. >> herman cain says he will throw his support behind one

candidate. the question is, who. with herman cain out of the race -- >> i am suspending my presidential campaign. >> the remaining gop candidates are wooing his supporters. >> they saw herman cain as an outsider, and i think they see that my voice will be the one that would be most reflective of his. >> despite low standing in the polls, ron paul and michele bachmann say their messages on limited government will resonate. >> obviously, they're going to go somewhere in the next week or so. that's going to happen. so i'm optimistic that we'll pick up some votes from there. >> rick santorum is also predicting his campaign will pick up steam. >> i think he made the right decision. >> but a month before the iowa caucus, the stakes are especially high for mitt romney, who could be hurt most if cain's supporters rally behind newt gingrich. a "des moines register" poll shows the former house speaker leading the gop field. like other counterparts, gingrich says cain will be missed on the campaign trail. >> but i can appreciate why in the current circumstance he decided to go back to being a private citizen rather than a candidate.

>> and gingrich and his rivals are said to be trying to schedule one-one-one meetings with cain this week. in washington, i'm tara mergener, wbal-tv 11 news. >> police in washington, d.c., had to resort to some unusual measures to clear out protesters. the protesters greeted a wooden shelter to keep them warm overnight. some workloads to jump out onto airbags -- some were coaxed to jump down. some were lowered to safety. no indication as to when city police will take action to clear up the occupy baltimore movement. organizers reflected on what they feel they have accomplished. >> to commemorate the

visibility may go down to 1/4 of the mall in some areas or less. 43 in cockeysville. that is a mild start for this time of year -- visibility may go down to one size for of a 1/4 of a mile. you can see with the showers and thunderstorms will develop. heavy rain and thunderstorms moving across the ohio valley. indiana, tennessee. we have some snow in the deep south across portions of texas and back into oklahoma. all that will catch up to us. the rain will come in tonight and tomorrow. we have the fog and the high, thin cloud deck. think we'll get some of sunshine

castrate her husband with a pair of scissors. the woman was arrested on saturday after she allegedly tried to cut off her husband's genitals after she allegedly discovered he was having an affair. she is charged with spousal abuse. a woman said she was strip search by tsa. she requested a pat down search at the security gate but she said agents major removed her pants and other clothing. the agency said there was no strip search an. >> some new drastic cuts come into the u.s. postal service will make it more cost efficient

where the vehicle on route 2 on saturday afternoon. two others were also hurt in the crash. police say it is not clear whether speed is to blame. a woman is said to be suffering from possible life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car. the woman was rushed to shock trauma after being hit by a vehicle on midway road. no word on whether the driver will face any charges. >> police say a man disappeared in montgomery county. crews have been searching the reservoir and the surrounding watershed or he is a maintenance worker for the washington sanitation commission. >> those who use city water might see a change in their bill.
