>> homicide detectives are handling a shooting that occurred in charles village. it happened just before 11:00 p.m. last might. officers found an unidentified man shot in the head. no word on his condition. homicide is investigating. a federal judge will sentence the wife of jack johnson for her role in our husbands corruption scandal. she faces up to a year and a half in prison after she pleaded guilty to destroying evidence. mrs. johnson flushed a check given as a bribe down the toilet. she tried to smuggle money out of her house in her underwear. a woman faces assault charges after pointed a loaded shotgun

at two people, including a girl. police say she kicked in the bedroom door of her boyfriend's home, grabbed a shotgun, and pointed it at the men and his daughter. >> protesters at the occupy boston encampment are ignoring the mayor's deadline to clear out of the financial district. this was the scene as hundreds of demonstrators remained in the park. no word as to any arrests. students gathered on thursday at virginia tech for an impromptu vigil. 39-year-old deriek crouse was shot on campus. the comment ran into a nearby building and shot and killed himself. another vigil will be held tonight on the blacksburg

campus. >> a haskell teacher remains behind bars and charged with having sex -- a high school teacher remains behind bars and charged with having sex with two students. police say jeffrey sears had numerous sexual encounters with high school students both on and off campus. >> when the first allegation against mr. sears arose, we removed him from the classroom and placed him in a position in which he had no contact with children. >> letters were sent home to parents. counselors are on hand to assist students. >> experts say child sex abuse victims often suffer long-term damaging effects. jennifer franciotti joins is live with more on the impact these crimes can have after they happen. >> the alleged victims are

teenagers. experts say the effects could last a lifetime. experts say victims are more likely to face depression and sexual transmitted disease. the way they see an adult relationships may forever be changed. >> when you put yourself in the hands of a teacher in a school relationship, you don't always want to see that as someone being nice to you for sexual gratification. so there's always going to be an issue of trust, and being able to trust other adults -- this is not what they are going for. >> child sex abuse experts say the road to healing is possible through professional therapy and counseling. jennifer franciotti reporting. >> police are on the lookout for sex offenders hanging around children. plainclothes officers are posting in busy areas to watch out for registered sex

unemployment benefits are renewed. this after two senate votes on rival tax plans resulted in stalemates on thursday. >> the motion is not agreed to. >> house republicans are planning to vote next week on a different payroll tax proposal. >> this is a no-brainer. >> if the president is serious about his committment to economic growth and jobs in this country, he'll sign this bill. >> the house plan includes a provision guaranteeing construction of an oil pipeline from canada to texas. >> the keystone pipeline project will create tens of thousands of jobs immediately. it has bipartisan support in the house and senate. >> president obama has promised to veto if the pipeline provision is attached. >> however many jobs might be generated by a keystone pipeline, there are going to be a lot fewer than the jobs that are created by extending the payroll tax cut and extending unemployment insurance. >> the payroll tax is currently at 4.2%. it would jump to 6.2% on january 1st if congress does not act. in washington, i'm kate amara,

skies are basically clear. there is a clipper storm coming across the great lakes. this front will come through here tonight. an arctic air mass is on the other side of the front with temperatures in the teens and single digits. it will be colder going into the weekend. there's some light snow ahead of that boundary across detroit and chicago. most of us should miss us to the north. we have a 30% chance for it sprinkle or snow flurries tonight as that system goes by. right now the skies are basically clear. you can see the clouds off to the northwest. perhaps you'll see the high, thin cloud deck increase this afternoon. 28 at the airport. 31 in rising sun. 23 in frederick. lots of sunshine to start and

because of a serious accident. much for added volume on 24. approaching 94 on the southwest corner, word of an accident. southbound 97 a route 3, an overturned vehicles reported. watch for southbound delays. northbound route 1, fire activity. in taneytown, an accident on 194. that involves an overturned vehicle. a lot to watch for. this is wilkins avenue. outer loop delays coming toward us as you approached the accident scene. this is 95 out of the white marsh area. building in a volume down towards the beltway. we will keep you posted on all those problems. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> the death toll is at 61 as

the massive fire sweeps through a hospital in india. the fire started in the basement of the hospital. most of the victims died of suffocation. there are reports that hospital staff fled to safety rather than helping patients. jerry sandusky is confined to his home this morning after posting $250,000 bail. two more accusers came forward and the faces more than 50 charges. police in oklahoma have arrested a woman who they say try to cook up meth side a walmart store. she had been inside the store for least six hours. one officer suffered minor injuries when one of the bottles bubbled over, burning his hand.

>> thank you. a glen burnie high school in this teacher is charged with sexually abusing two female students. >> he is charged with having numerous encounters with the girls on and off school grounds. victims could face emotional and physical side effects for years to come. jennifer franciotti joins us with more on that. >> the alleged victims in this case are 15 and 16-year-old girls. experts say the emotional side effect last lifetime. as the investigation continues into the alleged sexual relationship between several glen burnie high school students and former teacher jeffrey sears, child sex abuse experts warn of the emotional stress for the victims. >> there will be shame and possibly be guilt, because i'm not sure what the relationship was with her peers as well as with the teachers. so there will be guilt whether

general manager dan joerres. >> on sunday, baltimore ravens head coach john harbaugh made a gesture on behalf of the organization that has touched the heart of our community and speaks to the place of near reverence the nfl franchise holds in our community. harbaugh presented the game- winning ball to our friend and co-worker, ron smith. as you all know, ron has been waging battle on a truly insidious disease, pancreatic cancer. ron is no longer in treatment and he has since retired from broadcasting to focus his time now instead on family, friends and the things that matter to him -- including his beloved baltimore ravens. on friday, before the team's game with division foe cleveland, the coach called ron to offer words of support, but as only the "voice of reason" can do, ron gave voice instead to our community's passion for the team and how each victory is a reminder of the rewards of hard work, dedication and passion. after the game, harbaugh acknowledged the conversation with ron. in that moment, when so often the game ball is given to a player who performs mightily on
