union. the incident lasted only 15 minutes but authorities told students to stay indoors. we have been talking to students all day who are pretty shaken up. >> this story had a confusing start as the university of originally said of the armed all gunmen had robbed the bank and was running around campus, most likely in the liberal arts building. but as it turns out, the suspect was not armed and was apprehended quickly. still a very unnerving day for students and faculty here. >> some frightening moments here on monday morning after several emergency messages were broadcast from the university's twitter account concerning a robbery at the bank inside the student union. at 10:40, they broadcast at about arm robbery had been hat

indicated at tackler 49 -- suspect in custody, please resume normal activity. >> it is amazing it would happen on campus. >> students like this one who showed up at the bank right after the robbery were shocked by the news that someone could be so brazen as to rob a bank on campus. >> they have a good system of telling us what is going on and you usually only hear about things happening outside of the university like somewhere in baltimore. they even update you on that. for it to be in the university is crazy. >> county police say at a clock 32, the suspect entered the bank and verbally demanded money from the teller. he never displayed a wreck -- never displayed a weapon. he was later found on a bench at a brief chase and to scott and arrested.

>> us suspect has not been charged since day are conducting interviews. police tell us that at this point in the investigation, they believe this suspect is not affiliated in any way with the university and we hope to learn more information to our morning. >> investigators are trying to figure out what sparked an afternoon high-rise fire at an apartment building. fire officials say the blaze was reported on the 24th floor of the complex. crews had to treat three people on the scene for smoke inhalation. it's still unclear whether any of the residents have been displaced. >> police are releasing a sketch of a man wanted for a stabbing and robbery. detectives say one of the two men were approached on charles

street and was asked for a light. he tried to rob his victim and then stabbed him. investigators ask anyone who recognizes the person in this sketch to contact them. five people are facing charges in connection with the attack and robbery of a pizza delivery driver. this is a group of suspects who approached the driver from behind as he was making a delivery and started to assault him. it happened along the 2200 block on concourse drive. the driver dropped the suit and took off. investigators were able to find the suspects shortly thereafter. one of them is 17-year-old and is being charged as a juvenile. an update on the armed robberies of the goodwill stores -- the former employee who is now charged with committing those crimes was denied bail. our reporter is live at the district court with the latest. >> we learned more about him

today. he was on parole for armed robbery and attempted robbery when the good will robberies' started. a prosecutor told the judge he stole from an victimize the people who employ them. >> the man remains in baltimore county detention center and appeared before the judge via video monitoring. he said very little except to ask for a preliminary hearing. he's accused of robbing goodwill stores. the targets included dislocation in baltimore city. there was another store and the -- there were two others. those -- one of the stores is where he once worked. he was fired on november 17th for poor job performance, just six days after the robbery began. witnesses told police a masked man came into the stores and showed a semiautomatic handgun and forced employees and customers to a back office.

he would leave after taking money from the cash register and safe. during one robbery, the suspect said thank you for your cooperation. he told a customer "if you don't come to the back, i will blow your brains out. good will customers reacted to the robberies and arrest three >> they help people who most people wouldn't employed. i thought it was disgusting. this time of year, being robbed at gunpoint had to be scary. >> he became a suspect because of some good will workers at the match the description of the robber and recognized his voice and boots. police used technology as part of their investigation. when he denied any knowledge of the robberies and said he did not love the location of the goodwill store and had no reason to go there, detectives revealed several calls made from his cell phones to that store prior to the robbery. according to one document, he could not give a logical reason for the calls.

>> friends and family honored the virginia tech police officer killed in the line of duty today. the officer's funeral services were held at the coliseum in blacksburg where gov. bob mcdowell delivered remarks. the officer is making a traffic stop when ross truett ashley walked up to him and shot him before turning the gun on himself. investigators are still trying to establish a motive for what appears to be an unprovoked attack. >> the supreme court is taking up the case of arizona's controversial immigration law. the law prompted protests and heated debate when it took effect last year. a federal judge has blocked some of the most controversial provisions cover such as requiring immigrants to carry papers and requiring police to arrest suspected illegal immigrants without a warrant.
