beginning as university officials had tweed it out that an armed robbery occurred in the student union building and an armed suspect was somewhere on the campus. as it turns out, he was not armed but still some frightening moments for students and faculty here today. >> some frightening moments monday morning after a man robs the bank inside the student union. county police have taken over the investigation say the suspect entered the bank and verbally demanded money from the teller. he never displayed a weapon and no one was injured. the suspect was later found on a bench inside the liberal arts building. there is a brief chase and to scott and arrested. >> my teacher ran over to the door and locked the door. we were getting nervous and

paranoid about it. about the time we got a lot of class, i was exiting the liberal arts building. i'm glad to see got caught. >> this freshman was at his class inside the building when an announcement came over the intercom saying the suspect was inside his building. students and staff learned about the robbery after several emergency messages were broadcast. the university broadcast that an armed robbery has secured it -- has occurred in the late university union. five minutes later, a robbery reported. take shelter. stand by for updates. 10:47, suspect may be in liberal arts building. followed by armed robbery at a university union. shelter in place. more information to follow. at 10:49, suspect in custody,

resume normal activity. >> you would never think it would happen on campus. >> students who showed up at the bank after the robbery were shocked by the news that someone could be so brazen. >> they have a good system of telling us what's going on in the area. usually you only hear about things happening outside the university. for it to be in the university is crazy. >> while police have a suspect in custody, they have not charged this person yet. they tell us that at this point in the investigation, this person has no affiliation with the university. we hope to find out more information sometime tomorrow. >> the former goodwill employee charged with robbing area stores at gunpoint will remain in jail

after he was denied bail. to district court for details. >> the judge called him a serious threat, especially after hearing he was on parole for armed robbery at the time the robbery's for the goodwill stores started. >> appearing by a video monitor, he said very little to the judge. he asked for a preliminary hearing. he's accused of robbing goodwill stores with targets including this location in baltimore city and to others. one of the stores was where he once worked, according to court records. he was fired on november 17th for poor job performance. that was just six days after the robbery began. witnesses say a masked man came into the stores, showed a

handgun and force employees and customers to a back office. during one robbery, the suspects of "thank you for your cooperation. he told another customer, if you don't go to the back, i will blow your brains out. goodwill customers reacted to the arrests. >> i think it is a shame someone would steal from a business like good wealth of their giving back to the community and helping those less fortunate. but i am glad they found a guy who is doing it. >> he became a suspect because some goodwill workers said he matched the description of the robber. police used technology as part of their investigation. when he denied any knowledge of the robberies and said he did not know the location of the goodwill store and had no reason to go, detectives revealed several calls made from his phone prior to the robbery. he could not give a logical

explanation for the calls. police say this is an ongoing investigation and they're trying to determine whether or not he was involved in other areas robbery's. >> a man is in critical condition tonight after a police-involved shooting in southwest baltimore. officers responded to a domestic disturbance round-the-clock last night. they found a man with a knife. authorities shot the suspect after he refused to drop the weapon. the officer was not heard and the end -- the incident is under investigation. police have released this sketch in hopes of finding a suspect in a stabbing and robbery. police say it's one of two men who approached the victim on north charles street. he tried to rob the victim and then stabbed him. if you know this person, you are

urged to call police. >> stayed bridge inspectors are assessing the damage after a vehicle hit the past on the beltway. a vehicle was carrying construction equipment would hit the bridge over the outer loop. it happened after 1:30, leaving just one lane open for traffic. the wreck caused damage to a beam and catwalk. authorities are urging commuters to avoid the area. >> gov. martin o'malley has returned from his trade mission to india, a trip that netted nearly $60 million in deals for the state. let's go live to the newsroom for details. >> some taxpayers criticize the cost of the trade mission. the contingent of more than 100 people included business executives, the first lady, state lawmakers and legislators.
