inch. it doesn't feel that that outside right now. it will get even colder. we have some strong winds across the area. this is coming in and out of the west when we're bringing in some colder temperatures. 40 degrees in baltimore. to the west, a lot of 30's out there. we will slowly rise to about 43 this afternoon. mostly sunny skies. breezy throughout the day. it will feel even colder. temperatures will be bouncing back as we head into the seven- day forecast. >> let's check your morning commute. some problems on the roads. on 50 on the eastbound side just past ritchie highway, we do have a tractor-trailer fire and the left lane is squeezing by. northbound on 295, we have an

overturned the vehicle. another problem at harford county. an accident to report. some closures at madison with some fire department activity. we start to show the accident on 50 eastbound just past ritchie highway. you can see plenty of activity. watch for a delay. this is traffic in the area of 895, looking for that overturned a vehicle. watch for northbound 295 traffic to back down as you approach 895. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. now we want to get to our story this morning. paramedics respond to an accident in anne arundel county. this happened on northbound 295 tuesday night when a bthe bus

struck a curb. >> today marks one year since the disappearance of a 16-year- old phylicia barnes. no arrest in her murder. kim dacey is live at state police headquarters with how the community is remembered phylicia barnes. >> maryland state police recently said they are making progress in the phylicia barnes murder investigation but not say if there will soon be any arrests. she was last seen last year in baltimore. she disappeared while visiting her sister in baltimore. her body turned up in the susquehanna river in april. her death has been classified as a murder. her family and friends held a vigil for her in anticipation of

the one-year anniversary of her disappearance. this is a difficult day. >> just a good feeling to know that people have not forgotten at necessarily and kind of like it can be that one tip -- it has been a whole year and a somebody knows something and they have not forgotten about the situation. >> there is another vigil being held tonight at 7:00 p.m. in northwest baltimore. if you know anything about the investigation, police are asking you to call metro crime stoppers at 1-866-7-lockup. kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> police are searching for a suspect who allegedly robbed a woman during a carjacking. investigators say the woman got into her car to go to work and a man popped up from the back seat. the suspect ordered the woman to

drive across the street and ran off with her purse. she was not injured in the attack. the carroll county health department has a lot of repairs to make after several vehicles were damaged on christmas morning. an employee noticed the vehicles will not want a walk and contacted authorities. police did not have a motive. >> this is malicious vandalism for no real reason. you do not want to see people get away with that kind of stuff with impunity. >> police have made no arrests in this case. >> a couple reportedly injured in their home. there was a fire. it took about 55 firefighters to contain the blaze. no word of what caused the fire

44 degrees outside at the maryland science center. it is still dark out. the temperatures are not that bad right now. we're starting off near 40 degrees. 44 in annapolis. that is 15 above our normal low for this year. temperatures are not going to warm much today. we expect temperatures to drop a couple more at degrees. near the freezing mark in frostburg. in the mountains, there could be snow showers throughout the morning hours. snow falling in oakland. we will have some strong winds today. >> north koreans say goodbye to their so-called dear leader. kim jong il was laid to rest overnight. his son and the next korean

leader was next to them. soldiers stood in line with their heads bowed. back in this country, a terrific story out of indiana. a missing girl is found dead. a neighbor is now charged with her murder. a neighbor admitted to police that he killed the girl. he said he killed the girl by striking her in the head with a brick and cutting up for body, placing the parts in several freezer bags and storing them in his freezer. police are not saying if anyone is connected with the crime. >> video of a wild ride that began with a stolen patrol car and ended with a bang. a man took the car and led police on a wild chase through three counties.

he finally crashes. no injuries have been reported from the accident. he faces felony fleeing, illegal firearms possessions, and operating a meth lab. >> nobody was hurt. 5:12. mother's nursing in public. >> sears and kmart announced store closings. this is 50 at ritchie highway. we have another accident on 295 .

>> now traffic pulse 11 and insta-weather plus together. >> time to check your morning commute. several accidents that we're tracking. we start on eastbound 50. the left lane and getting by with an accident involving a tractor-trailer fire. rude 295 northbound -- route 295, have been overturned vehicle. waterville road, watch for an accident. some problems in the city along roberts street and madison avenue. we will show you some of these scenes. you can see the left lane is getting by. this is on the eastbound direction on 50 just past ritchie highway. this is traffic of 895 at 295. looks like the left lane gets by.

oakland. 20 in westminster. these winds are picking up behind the latest storm. it will make it feel colder. we are expecting temperatures to dip into the upper 30's and that we warm into the upper 40's. with those winds, you have to factor in the wind chill. some gusts may be up to 40 miles per hour. it will be a cold night. lows around 24 in baltimore. it could drop into the low 20's in the western suburbs. that storm system is heading up towards the north and east. we have some clearing overnight. some light snow showers still occurring in the mountains. these will be late in nature and

taper off into the afternoon. in baltimore, we have the strong winds. have the strong pressure which is causing those winds to strengthen. lines of constant pressure. the tighter those lines get, the stronger the wind as we of the competing areas of pressure. they should taper into the night. the mountains are likely to see flurries with the cold air. then a storm passes to our north on friday. there is a chance we could see a wintry mix. if anything, it doesn't look like much. just something to keep in mind by saturday morning. that could be an issue if you have travel plans. we will see a major drop down by next week.

the closings will generate around $170 million in inventory sales. the company has more than 4000 stores throughout the united states and canada. no word if any baltimore-area stores will be affected. sales of paper savings bonds will end on december 31. the move was announced back in july in hopes of increasing the number of electronic transactions. series ee and i will be made available for purchase. those holding paper saving bonds can continue to redeem them at financial institutions. >> you could be in for a rude surprise at the pump. thank you, jane. we will see you at 6:15 for your next report. is live with the

traffic backed up just slightly. we will keep you posted on all of that. 16-year-old phylicia barnes disappeared in baltimore one year ago today. >> her body was later found in the susquehanna river. kim dacey is live with the latest on the investigation and how she is being remembered. >> just last week, police said they are making progress on the phylicia barnes murder investigation. they are not saying whether they are expecting any arrests any time soon. the family says they just want justice. phylicia barnes was last seen in the area of the reisterstown plaza last year. that is where her family and friends gathered recently. >> i just want justice for my sister. that is what i want for my christmas gift this year.

brown's baptist church in northwest baltimore. anyone with information on the investigation is asked to call metro crime stoppers 1-866-7- lockup. kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> a judge decides not to throw out statements made by a man charged with killing a young couple. the man faces two counts of first-degree murder. the bodies were found in june. his lawyers argued that minnick had not been read his miranda rights when investigators began questioning him about the slayings. drug charges this morning against a man accused of causing a crash that critically injured toddler. a man has been injured whiwith driving while impaired.

month-old remainsal in critical condition. engineers plan to convert a portion of light street to wait roundabout to make things easier to navigate. the reason for the chaos is oftentimes cars attempt to turn from light street onto a key highway. the project will be similar to the towson roundabout. the lanes will be clearly marked to make easier to see where light street curves around on the highway and the design will force drivers to take the turn slowly. construction could begin as soon as next summer. >> after 43 years, polock johnny's is closing its lexington market location. diane wilkins has oownewned the

ray rice guess the starting nod over foster of houston. rice leads the league in yards from scrimmage. he becomes the second back in nfl history with multiple seasons of 1,000 yards rushing and 700 yards receiving. the ravens will head to cincinnati this weekend where andy dalton has surpassed expectations this season. the last time he faced the ravens, he threw for 373 yards but made some rookie mistakes. he did not have green last month. he is big and strong and fast. dalton has settled with some solid statistics. coach john harbaugh is happy to have more tape to review on
