>> good morning. we have a few problem spots this early morning. edgewood road between philadelphia and pulaski highway, we have a crash involving an overturned vehicle. take route 24 as your alternate. a water main break on joppa road. icy conditions are expected because of the cold temperatures. have a crash on washington boulevard in halethorpe. otherwise, the major roadways are checking out ok. at 57 miles per hour on 95 in the northeast corner. we're up to speed on the rest of the major roads. 11 minutes and four minutes on 95 northbound between 32 and 100 in howard county. no problems there at all.

that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> in arrest in a stabbing attack leads police to a surprising discovery. it happened 4:00 p.m. wednesday afternoon in severn. victim identified his attacker. found more than $12,000 in marijuana and cocaine. is charged with assault and multiple drug charges. a man has been arrested who allegedly left his small children alone. deputies say two children were found unattended in a car in the parking lot of a walmart in frederick. the temperature at the time outside was 24 degrees. anisur rahman was arrested and charged with child abuse.

>> what started out as it house fire has turned to an arson and hate crime investigation. >> jennifer franciotti is live with more on that story. >> this fire started on new year's day and happens not far from this intersection in brooklyn park. firefighters found heavy smoke and fire conditions. nobody was hurt because nobody was inside at the time. the elderly woman and their male caretaker were not home when the fire began. there were sexual and racial slurs found on the outside of the house. >> that raises suspicions with our crews. immediately contacted county police. we reported to the scene. it was also determined that this fire was intentionally set. >> right now fire investigators

welcome back to 11 news today. i'm stan stovall. >> and i'm mindy basara. thank you for joining us this morning. a bit of a warm-up, so to speak. >> it is all relative. right now it is about 30. we will start out with cloudy skies and the clouds will break up by the time you go to lunch with a high temperature near 43, which is warmer than yesterday. we will check the seven-day forecast in just a few minutes. >> an arson investigation in brooklyn park comes with a disturbing twist. >> jennifer franciotti is in a brooklyn park to explain. >> we're standing on church and franklin streets. this fire started on new year's day and investigators know that fire was intentionally set and are investigating this as a possible hate crime.

early new year's day morning, there were flames, smoke coming out of the roof, and terrified neighbors watching from a distance. >> my mom woke up at, like, 4:00 in the morning, and she saw heard something loud. she saw that the house was up in flames and called 911. >> fortunately, the two elderly women and their male caretaker were not home when the fire broke out. it took 30 firefighters about 20 minutes to put out those flames. and once the smoke cleared, investigators found racial and sexual slurs painted on the outside of the house. >> that raises suspicions with our crews. immediately contacted county police. we reported to the scene. it was also determined that this fire was intentionally set. >> the fire appears to have started inside. investigators are still looking into whether there was a break- in or if an accelerant was tossed inside beforehand. the slurs are painted in white on both sides and on the back of the house. a fire division chief says at this point it is unclear whether the residents had reported being harassed in the past. the case is being investigated as arson and a hate crime.
