a busy start on the southbound harrisburg expressway. approaching shawan road, that fact is on the scene. all southbound lanes are closed. of traffic being held at belfast. you have to exit. they will stretch back prior to that. we will look at the traffic leading up to that. northbound lanes are moving by. york road is a much better bet. 53 on the west side. inner loop will shut down tomorrow. outer loop traffic will be in a two-way formo. m. you can see nothing getting by ed shawan road. watch for delays leading up to mount carmel. that is the latest on traffic

pulse 11. back to you. >> a baltimore county man will learn his fate for the murder of a girl whose body has yet to be found. jason gross was found guilty of murdering michele battle. prosecutors said they met in a chat room and arranged a meeting. they never found her body. attorneys for eight you taught dr. are taking aim at prosecutors. lawyers representing the doctor are asking prosecutors to be held in contempt for disclosing contents of a sealed indictment. the doctor was arrested last month in performing late term abortions in a facility in cecil county.

he will be brought to maryland to face similar charges. an angry community after they say police neglected to tell them about it disturbing kidnapping and robert that took place. >> they have to hear about this to the grapevine. we have more in the newsroom. >> police have several leads and atm footage could help them catch who is responsible. what bothers the communities is that the police did not let them know it happen. police say two suspects whose images are captured by a camera approached the victim. the suspects said hello to the victim as they displayed a handgun. the victim gave up his phone and explained his wallet was in his home. they went room to room looking

for cash and other a valuables. they drove around for hours stopping at atm machines to withdraw money from his account. the suspects said they killed people previously. residents to not hear about this crime until the victim warned neighbors through an e-mail. the association president is surprise given the close relationship with police. >> the bolton hill neighbors at the mount royal improvement association meeting, which is our larger neighborhood association, were shocked that our representative from the police department who appeared at this meeting was not aware of this crime at all. and he got a lot of heat. >> the suspects are described as african american in their early 20's. anyone with information are

urged to call the central district detective unit. community leaders say they will press police for more timely information about the crime at the next meeting. >> thank you. police have arrested a man responsible for a christmas eve shooting in crownsville. joseph clark faces several charges. investigators say clark shot a man outside of a home after a party on christmas eve. >> a committee is in shock after a deadly fire claimed the life of a beloved neighbors appeared the victim was mary hines, a retired principal. firefighters found her unresponsive. she was trying to escape the fire in her home. >> she did everything for everybody that she could do for

and she was a very good woman. very pleasant and very respectful. >> there was a working smoke detector in the home but mobility issues made it difficult for the victim to escape. authorities are charging a man with attempted murder after it set himself and his girlfriend on fire. joseph miller poured paint thinner on his girlfriend, rose ann owens, and center on fire. -- and set her on fire. she is still in critical but stable condition. >> hazmat crews were on the scene on thursday morning on washington boulevard. two people were taken to the hospital suffering from poisoning. none of their condition was said to be life-threatening.

fire officials don't know what caused that leak. >> a man accused of raping a girl at the skating rinks. the dna analysis was conducted but there was no dna evidence for the defendant. dna not be present during a sexual assault. the defense said the lack of dna proves that perry is innocent. the case could go to the jury this afternoon. >> it is the last week again before the new hampshire primary. the candidates are trying to make the hard sell to voters. tara mergener joins us live with that story. >> the latest poll shows mitt romney is in the lead in the granite state.

you can see the lights twinkling. we're awfully quiet start. temperatures around 36 downtown. the temperature will keep warming as we head into the afternoon. we will see warmer weather. temperatures are starting to pick up in the western part of the state. i think the strongest of the wind will stay to the west. we will see a light wind from the west. three miles per hour around the inner harbor. you could hardly believe that these temperatures. 58 in baltimore. maybe some spots will get up to 60 degrees. 56 long the eastern shore. the mountains state a little bit cooler. partly sunny skies throughout the day. breezy out in the west. not as cold. expecting temperatures around 35

tonight. with all that warm air pushing in from the plains. this front will be passing by on saturday night. after that, we will see temperatures back to normal. saturday evening you can take out that front. a band of clouds will pass by it as a dry front. maybe a drop of rain. you'll notice a drop in the temperatures. back to the 40's by sunday. we stay in the 40's next week. a new storm next week stays to the south. we're talking just rain. no big snow in the forecast just now. >> a busy morning. we are tracking some problems. on the harrisburg expressway, all southbound lanes are closed approaching shawan road.

expressway. avoid it southbound. take york road. we had an overturned vehicle that is still being worked on. it is create a big back up. of traffic being forced off at belfast. northbound traffic is not affected. southbound 152, we have an overturned vehicle. we will give you a live view of that in a moment. eastbound 195, other accident report. no delays to report elsewhere. we start with 83 at shawan road. this would be southbound traffic. nothing getting by. this is a matter of fact situation. in joppa, watch for this closure. the right lane of the ramp from southbound 152, and it is create a bit of a backup on that ramp.

edward o'brien to the college of cardinals. >> he will serve as the adviser to the pope and will be eligible to vote in people elections -- papal elections. will remain head of the baltimore archdiocese until his successor is installed. formal ceremony will be held at the vatican. we're hoping to talk with the cardinal designate live from rome about this huge honor. we get a better look at the health of the nation's economy. the labor department is set to release its employment report for december. economists expect an uptick in payrolls. companies are planning fewer layoffs. new jobs are coming to howard

the film industry of baltimore is getting a big boost from actor kevin spacey. he is producing and storing in a remake of the british political miniseries "house of cards." baltimore will be used to felon for many of the washington, d.c., locations. officials estimate this series could pump some $75 million into the local economy. many have asked us about a public memorial service for ron smith. those details have not been finalized. the service will be held on january 17 at dodger college at 11:00 a.m. -- goucher college. you can listen to it on wbal-t

radio. >> on the harrisburg expressway, you can see it delays stretch back to it middletown road to approaching shawan road. all southbound lanes remained closed because of an overturned vehicle. a complete mess. take york road as your alternate. southbound 152, we have an accident clearing, causing a bit of a delay. . 195, the left lane is closed with an accident further south. this is the harrisburg expressway. traffic is not moving in the area of mount carmel. you can see what it looks like. a lot of folks getting off at mount carmel. in joppa, this is the accident. the tow truck is on the scene. hopefully that will be out of their shortly.

>> welcome b back to 11 news today. 6:43. archdiocese of baltimore has announced the pope has named archbishop edwin o'brien to the college of cardinals. he will serve as adviser to the pope and will be eligible to vote for papal elections. he will now remain head of the baltimore archdiocese until his successor is installed. he is the third archbishop of baltimore to be elevated to cardinal.

the biggest problem is southbound 83. all the way down to shawan road. all southbound lanes are closed because of that overturned vehicle. northbound lanes are not affected. york road is starting to fill up or delay your departure because it will be a mess. southbound 152 in the joppa region, we have a couple of closures. the left lane is squeezing by. further south, eastbound 195, have it left lane closure that is causing a bit of a backup. this is the harrisburg expressway. traffic bumper-to-bumper from middletown road all the way down to approaching shawan road. all lanes are closed approaching shawan road.

it is a little earlier than i thought. i'm grateful is happen while i am still -- it is a great city, baltimore. >> now you will be in rome as a cardinal. how will this change your position? >> i will be traveling a lot to try to rev up support in the holy land and to try to get more people conscious of the christians there. the will take me all round the world. i will probably be named to a couple of committees in order to help these administration. one role is to assist the holy father as pastor and he looks to the cardinals to help him do that.
