verdict in the case of a man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl at a skating rink. they found him not guilty of rape or statutory rate, but said they were deadlocked on two sex offense charges. the victim identified him as one of three attackers that drug can't -- directory entry storage area and force her to perform -- and dragged her into a storage area and forced her to perform sex acts on them. >> we knew that he was innocent. we knew that justice would prevail. and we have been praying for a long time. we're really happy. >> a 16 and a 19-year-old both pleaded guilty to their involvement in the crime. prosecutors could retry the third teenager on other charges. >> he retired city principal was found murdered inside her home that had burned down. lowell melzer has the latest on

the investigation. >> detectives spent about an hour in the 2600 block of east little street in east baltimore. that is where police are trying to find any shred of evidence that can help them solve this case. >> it was originally thought by police that 84-year-old mary heinz died from a fire in her homes in the 2600 block of east little street last thursday morning. but it was revealed after an investigation that she had been stabbed and upper of times before the fire began. she began working in the baltimore city school system in 1948 and retired in 1981 after serving as principal at william vander hughson elementary. she was found on the first floor for home between the front and middle rooms. neighbors had even reported that the gas and electric had

as you can see, it did not stick around long. already sliding off solve and east. there's still some snow falling in parts of maryland. it mixes with and changes over to rein in st. mary's county. -- changes over to rain in at st. mary's county. this batch of wintry weather will be gone. it is just a taste of winter, really. it has been a tame winter so far. temperatures are at or above freezing. that is good news to help out the evening first -- evening rush hour. 35 degrees or so. that is, around the baltimore metro area. the roadways do have pape and above freezing.

maybe a slick spot or two. the on the lookout for slippery conditions for another couple of hours, and in the skies will clear. so far, 300th of an inch of melted snow at b.w.i. marshall. a record low, 2 degrees, in 1970. a record amount of snow on this day from the big snowstorm that rolled through here in 1996. january 7-nine, we picked up almost 17 inches of -- at b.w.i. marshall. over 30 inches in millers and owings mills. that was part one of a two-part storm. another big storm rolled through the area. it was one of the snowiest winter is we've ever had in baltimore, 1996. a bit of cloud cover lingering in pittsburgh up through the great lakes. by morning, most of that will clear -- clear out of the region.
