registered the first two fire fatalities of the year. kim dacey joins us live with the latest. good morning. >> you can still smell that smoky fire smell even though fire crews were called here around 7:30 last night. fire officials say smoke was coming from the windows and a knocking on thelking = door. neighbors say the two were mother and daughter. both were found upstairs in the home. they did what they could for the victims. >> crews arrived and they knocked down the fire gate and did a quick removal of two victims, two adult females in critical condition. there were transported to the

hospital where there were pronounced dead at the scene. >> the cause of the fire is still under investigation. kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> we have an update on the murder of a retired educator. mary hines was found stabbed to death last thursday in her home. she made a fad a troubled relationship with a nephew. -- she may have had a troubled relationship with a nephew. metro crime stoppers is offering up to a $2,000 reward. >> she lived there by herself. somebody had to know something. >> call somebody in authority. that vital information that we can put this homicide down. >> neighbors have reported that

her gas and electric had been shot off. anyone with information should call 1-866-7-lockup. >> a partial verdict in the case of a man raping a girl at a skating rink. davon perry was found not guilty. the jury said they were deadlocked on two other sex offense charges. he was identified as one of three attackers. he forced her to perform sex acts on them. his dna was not found on the victim. >> we knew that he was innocent. we knew that justice would prevail and we have been praying for a long time. we are happy. >> two others pleaded guilty for their involvement in the crime.

plotting to buy explosives -- look at this. the altercation was with a street preacher and police. this shows him confronting a street preacher outside of a concert last april. he is under arrest for allegedly trying to buy explosives. he is charged with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. three men are rescued from a cave in west virginia. they went in on a weekend exploring trip but they never came out. rescuers began their search in the middle of the night. at least two are college students and all seemed to be ok. memorial for a parka ranger that was shot at a traffic stop.

this westerly wind flow will help the temperatures warm up today. we are above freezing in baltimore at the airport and at the inner harbor. 34 in college park. near 30 as you head out into the western mountains. we get the error sinking down the mountains and it allows the air to warm-up -- we get the air sinking. we're expecting to push to near 51. maybe some clouds early on. 53 for southern maryland. this is a brief lull in the crazy weather pattern before the next storm arrives. a few clouds start to push in late. temperatures ranging from the mid 40's to the made a 30's. warmer as you move into the

suburbs. we have a new storm system. that last storm is now offshore. this is where our second storm is forming. there is another piece behind it and this might be a two-part storm. this will be heading northeast for the next couple of days. we will fast forward to wednesday afternoon. clouds are already in place. we will see the rain pushed in. if it is cold enough, it could turn into a rain event on wednesday night into thursday. we could see some snow by friday. notice how the temperature drops down. 42 on friday. 30's this weekend. dry for the ravens game on sunday. >> nothing like a bargain after

sentenced in a washington county for possessing eight regulated fire arm. his lawyer said he planned to sell the firearm. the police say he planned to shoot people and that hagerstown was a war zone. he was serving time for aggravated assault. >> a house fire claims the lives of two women. the fire started around 7:30. kim dacey joins us with more on the story. >> you can still smell that smoky fire smell standing outside the home. the women are the first two fire fatalities in baltimore county so far this year. firefighters did get them out but it was too late. >> the police arrived and

neighbors were knocking on the door. >> baltimore county fire crews arrived in the home in the 900 block of arncliffe road. they quickly knocked down the fire and went inside and found two women. the fire officials say the victims were 41 and 63 years old. no official identification has been made. firefighters got them out but it was too late. >> there were in critical condition. females were transported to bayview and franklin square hospital where they were pronounced dead at the scene. >> because of the fire remains under investigation. kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. a domestic stabbing. 43-year-old william ward will

face an attempted murder charges. their home is in brooklyn park. both were listed in serious condition. >> a drop in violence among baltimore youth in 200011. law enforcement and city health officials work with schools to prevent crime. the numbers speak for themselves. >> it is hard to imagine but in 1999, their work 168 children shot in baltimore city. by comparison, this year, there were 28. >> the city needs to work to build on that success by providing opportunities for young people and intervening in what could be a cycle of crime. >> an alleged crime to steal money from the baltimore housing authority. three men and a woman began a

today. 5:39. 36 degrees downtown. the temperature is close to the dew point. we have a mild air moving over colder ground. we do expect the fog to clear out after the 9:00 a.m. hour. skies and mild this afternoon. high temperature, 51 degrees. it will be a beautiful day. we had the snow yesterday. a new storm is on the way. this is your break. some rain and maybe some snow in the seven-day forecast. >> a new statement from the american heart association encourages bystanders to start cpr right away when they see somebody suffer cardiac arrest. >> there are teachers just a phone call away.

911 dispatchers can help. skipping mouth to mouth does not -- enables the important chest compressions to begin sooner. a look at the so-called broken heart syndrome. >> heart attacks increased 21 times higher than normal within days of the death of a loved one. grieving spouses have higher long-term risk of dying from heart disease. those in morning tend to get less sleep and may forget to take their medications -- those in mourning. three different types of acupuncture were checked.

that helps to produce some fog. we have concern of dense fog up into about 9:00 a.m. visibility to be down to half a mile. watch out for that. we see sunshine into the afternoon and we have a mild start. helped by the westerly wind, looking for highs into the low 50's. normal highs for this time of year or in the 40's. a few clouds start to push back in. light northwest wind. those clouds will be coming in with the next storm. you can see the satellite is picking up the low clouds and fog. high pressure pushes in. our next storm system is moving

into louisiana with heavy rain. a second piece of the storm that will have to keep our eye on. the seven-day forecast when we come back. we do expect the rain to move in on wednesday. noticed the clouds over baltimore. maybe it's starts off as the wintry mix in some spots then we expect the rate to move in on wednesday night. the second piece of the storm is will we have to watch out for in terms of snow. by friday, there could be some light snow showers in the area. watch out for the rain on wednesday to begin with an icy makeix. we do expect it to be cold this weekend, including for the ravens game on sunday. the best bet is that it will be
