good morning. >> good morning, everyone. it's decision day in new hampshire where the first in the nation primary for the gop race for the white house kicks off. iowa caucus winner mitt romney is the overwhelming favorite in new hampshire. but in the village where the first ballots were cast at midnight, romney was tied with john huntsman at two voestes apiece. they have just nine registered voters there. the white house chief of staff william daley is quitting to return to chicago, he says, to spend more time with his grandchildren. he was brought on a year ago to help broker deals with congress. he's being replaced by a seasoned washington insider. the search for a missing maine toddler is headed into its fourth week but ayla reynolds's parents and loved ones aren't giving up hope. aditi roy joins us with an update. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it's been 25 days since little

ayla reynolds went missing from her father's home behind me. friends, family and friend strangers are trying to keep the public engaged in the little girl's story in hopes of sparking a break in the case. pins and flyers bearing a little girl's face. >> would it be okay if i hung one of these up on the door? >> reporter: ayla's father is using these tools from the recovery center in texas to find his little girl. >> the t-shirts are set to be ready. >> reporter: the center helps find missing children like ayla. >> we are hoping all the eyes out there seeing her picture on tv, on posters and it only takes one person to recognize that picture to bring her home. that's what we are hoping. >> reporter: on friday night di pietro and two friends went door to door, trying to pick up where police left off when they ended their search for the

toddler nearly two weeks ago. >> we're trying to keep her face out there. i want my daughter home. i'll do anything to make it happen. >> reporter: he said he put ayla to bed december 16th. the next morning he said she was gone. ayla was in his care while her mother, trista reynolds, was in rehab. police believe foul play was involved but they are not naming suspects. authorities initially searched trails, woods and waterways, using cadaver dogs and trained volunteers. community groups had vigils and reynolds hit the air waves. >> i love her. i miss her. i want her home. >> reporter: but days passed and still no breaks in the case. just more pictures of ayla blanketing the region. >> help spread the word. >> reporter: and loved ones who hope one of them will be the turning point in this heart-breaking mystery. we did contact justin dipietro. here's what he had to tell us. thank you to everyone in their continues efforts in finding ayla. don't lose hope. police say both parents are

"today" nutritionist joy bauer. >> daily diet dilemmas. >> we'll get our first one from abby in reading, connecticut joining us via skype. >> hi, joy. thanks for taking my question. >> what is it? >> everyone is talking about starting the new year with a juice fast. is it worth the hype? >> well, i don't know if it's worth the hype. it's certainly not sustainable or balanced, but i definitely understand the allure. a lot of people want to do something radical and extreme when they first start a diet. you're definitely going to lose a little bit of weight which gives you encouragement. for a couple of days i think it's fine. most of the juice fast plans are devoid of protein which is important. it keeps your metabolism revved and stabilizes blood sugar. if you do it for longer than a

few days, buy a protein powder and add half to one scoop into each of the beverages. really, you could create your own do it yourself detox plan by just getting rid of the junkie processed food and eating clean whole foods throughout the day. in that case because the plan is sustainable your results will stick. >> good luck. >> happy new year. >> our next question is a viewer e-mail from susan in georgia. one of my new year's resolutions is always to try to eat more vegetables. i never keep this one. what are quick, easy ways to add vegetables to my diet? >> first i will make her resolution more concrete and measurable. i want her to have at least one vegetable with her lunch and with dinner. there are so many ways to get it in. layer lettuce, tomatoes and roasted peppers on a sandwich, have green beans with dinner. two ways i like to get vegetable in.

i take frozen chopped spinach or broccoli box, thaw it shlgs drain it, mix it with turkey and make vegetable turkey burgers. also steam cauliflower, mash it up just like potatoes. you have a low cal, low carb mashed potato. doctor it up with things. >> slip vegetables inside spaghetti sauce. >> right. >> now from cindy in oklahoma joining us live via skype. happy new year. what's your question? >> hi. my question is one of my goals for 2012 is to train to walk in a half marathon to get back into my exercise routine and drop some weight. my question is how do i balance eating for both? >> good for you. because your goal is weight loss, i want you to stick with a baseline calorie level of 1200 to 1600 calories. then adjust your calorie requirements whether or not you're having an extra

challenging day in terms of your walking training. it's not an exact science. here's a good baseline. 1200 to 1600 calories. if you are walking up to an hour on any particular day. keep it there. if you're walking more than an hour, add 100 to 200 extra calories for each additional hour. i think that amount a is going to keep you feeling energized but it's the right amount to enable you to lose weight. >> all right. >> good luck with the race! >> if i can do it, cindy, you can. believe me. >> you can do it. >> thank you! >> we have one more e-mail question. this is from jamie in massachusetts. one of my new year's resolutions is to stop buying sugared serials fserial cereals for my son. what's an acceptable amount of sugar on the label? >> remember the number 8. don't buy a cereal with more than 8 grams of sugar.

hazardous materials. i said, really? on the maternity floor? >> they bounced my family off the 6th floor from the waiting room and made them go down stairs. >> reporter: hip hop's royal couple reportedly paid a king's ransom to beef up security at length -- lenox hill hospital. they shelled out $1.3 million to renovate and reserve an entire wing. bulletproof a door and tint windows. hospital officials deny the payment and say the couple is in an executive suite with their own security. officials also said no security plan would have prevented or delayed families from gaining access to their newborns. going to great lengths to shield famous newborns isn't unusual. >> we saw angelina jolie have her baby shyloh in africa. we saw katie holmes in her hospital in the dead of night in secrecy so no one would know. >> reporter: part of it may be privacy.
