there could be some snow or slush on the roads. it will make the day interesting. the wind and the cold when we come back. now we want to check on the roads. >> we have an accident in anne arundel county southbound on 178. southbound lanes are closed. we're doing ok. not a lot in the way of volume. 49 in the outer loop. the j.f.x. looks good. the rest of the major roadways running smoothly aside from the fact that the roads are wet. you could see some icy conditions in carroll county. five minutes south of 95 down to the fort mchenry. 11 minutes to travel south on 95

down towards the 32 from the beltway. harford road, so far no delays to report. it will be slick in spots. we're running smoothly at this intersection in fallston. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> reports of several cases of scarlet fever in the city at george washington elementary school in southwest baltimore. jennifer franciotti has what city health officials are asking parents. >> they are asking parents of infected children to keep their children home from school. scarlet fever is caused by the same bacteria that causes strep throat. a letter has been sent home to parents. three students from the same class at george washington elementary have a scarlet fever.

they say it is a common infection. school officials are taking steps to prevented from spreading to more students. representatives from the city health department will be at the school to answer questions from parents who have any concerns. parents are asked to monitor children for symptoms of a scarlet fever which includes a sore thumroat and swollen neck glands. scott fever can be treated with antibiotics -- scarlet fever. parents of infected children are asked to stay home and call the doctor. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> the hamilton post office may end up closing its doors as the u.s. postal service deals with a

major shortfall. dozens pleaded for it to stay open. it served 19 routes. residents say they would be a major inconvenience if the closed. >> we do use it. i cannot make it to parkville when the buses are not running right. >> the hamilton post office is one of eight locations slated for possible closure in baltimore city. congress has agreed to wait until may before the close anymore post offices. the governor wants to double the amount of funding for the rental housing works program. this will help close the gap of affordable housing in the state. >> a lot of people make love it

jennifer franciotti is live at george washington elementary school with more. good morning. >> scarlet fever is caused by the same bacteria that causes strep throat. health officials are sending a letter home and warning parents the types of symptoms to watch out for. three kids in the same class have a scarlet fever. this is a common infection that is spread from person to person by sneezing or coughing. school officials are wiping down hand rails and cleaning different services. representatives from the health department will be able to answer any questions from parents. they are asking parents to monitor the children sentence for scarlet fever which includes a sore throat and swollen neck glance. call your doctor if your child has any symptoms.
