anyway. so the weather service still has an advisory in effect. the possibility of icing west of the chesapeake bay. when you are close to the water, it is warmer. once you get away from the water, it is close to 32 degrees. 27 in parkton. especially northern and western suburbs. there is a possibility if you get into that little freezing fog or mist that there could be ice out there. winds will turn to the south. right now winds are calm. as soon as we can get the winds to start kicking up, the temperatures will change. as a matter of fact there is warm air off to our west. temperatures are in the 50's in west virginia right now. right now the cold air is lodged in place. eventually we'll make it into the 40's this afternoon. the cloud cover is thick out there. we're not going to get help with sunshine out there. the rain isn't far behind.

we have rain back across portions of kentucky and back into ohio. as that gets closer to us, the chance for rain will go up. the best chance for steady rain will be late this afternoon and into this evening. our forecast looks like this. icing early this morning, maybe. a better chance for rain late in the day today. rain showers likely early tonight. then the skies will clear late. as a system comes through, temperatures drop back into the 30's. nice day coming up tomorrow p mostly sunny with a high near 52. upper 40's on wednesday. then a chance for rain again, perhaps late thursday into friday morning. did gets colder over the weekend. temperatures in the 30's. maybe a little light rain or snow. >> in this morning's consumer alert, the next time you book a flight, expect some changes. don't worry, they are expected to benefit the consumer. jay gray explains how.

about, that's for sure. >> this winter has been lack luster. live in hampton we're talking about a lot of the side roads. those were the places impacted by the winter snow on saturday. if you heard behind me, a car was struggling to get up this hill on 38, and that is still ice covered. the roads that did see a lot of traffic this weekend are still covered in ice. same with the sidewalks as well. those will be the icyest areas. we're talking about the freezing fog. we're starting to see fog build in hampton. anywhere it is at freezing or below that, fog could start to freeze on a few surfaces, whether it be the windchill, the roads. take it easy as we head out this morning. i know saturday with only an inch of snow wasn't anything to write home about, but that is going to cause travel problems this morning. it is about mid winter, and really nothing to speak about.

only about .8 inches of snow. normally we see 6 inches so far. we are well below normal. i'll head back to tony to talk about the long-term weather. tony, that car was struggling behind me to get up the hill. >> you have a little mist or a fog, and the temperature is enough to put a little glaze on. it is worth mentioning. hopefully we will get a bigger storm. >> something to throw around, right? >> i think that's what i'm going to do now. now that i have the fans stashed here, i'm going to keep it until i get a snowfall over 2 inches. what do you think? >> it's going to be here forever, isn't it? >> maybe. i hope not. not this winter. ava, i appreciate it. as ava mentioned, you get north and west of the city, and there is the possibility of minor icing going on here. it is up to 34 at the airport.

32 in sykesville. if you are a neighborhood that has a temperature below freezing, maybe minor icing. now winds are calm. we're waiting for the winds to pick up out of the south. we're going to sour out this -- scour out this colder air mass. it will be a slow process. we're getting into a situation with the winds coming out of the northeast. it is kind of hard to move it. you can see the tments are in the 50's in west virginia. there is warm air trying to come in. i think we will eventually do that by the time we get into the afternoon. that's good because we have a lot of rain coming in. if we kept the temperatures at or below freezing, we would have a bigger problem. cloud cover out there this morning as well, we will not get sunshine from the clouds. fog or mist or drizzle to start out the day. sunshine coming across tennessee or kentucky.

we don't think we will get thunderstorms around here. those should die off in intensity. that rain will make it across the mountains, and the best chance for us will come later this afternoon and into this evening as far as the rain goes. the forecast looks like this. mostly cloudy skies. a chance for rain. the best chance will be late this afternoon and this evening. for right now this morning, it is fog and mist and drizzle. temperatures in the low to mid 50's once wind turns to the south. we'll drop back into the 30's tonight. sunset at 5:15. winds shift to the northwest. a storm stimulate tonight. during the day tomorrow and wednesday, good news. it will be nice for this time of the year. sunshine, i think both days. high of 52. 47 on wednesday. the average high is 41. then i think we'll see another chance for rain coming up late thursday and into friday morning. it will get colder over the weekend. perhaps that will be our next chance for snow maybe late saturday and into sunday.
