outside, so i woke up, looked out the window, and saw the house on fire. >> that houses on the 300 block of fulton avenue. firefighters found heavy smoke and fire on the first floor. neighbors say a two-year old child, mother, and grandmother lived in the house. firefighters say all three were able to escape. >> all i heard was a mother and baby jumped out the window. >> firefighters confirm a 45- year-old woman jumped out of the front window of the house, the two-year old thrown out the window in the back, and then followed by another woman who jumped out the window. all three were taken to area hospitals for treatment or observation. >> it is crazy. i have a two-year old son, and it is close to home, across the street. >> firefighters are not sure if

there were working fire alarms in the house. fortunately, the fire did not spread to other homes, but the investigation continues as to what caused it. >> we did not know what caused the fire, at this point, but we are on the scene making preliminary assessments. >> meanwhile, neighbors say their hearts go out to the family. >> i hope they are ok. >> firefighters do not have an exact dollar estimate on the damage, but they consider the home a complete loss. >> a baltimore county priest is off the job after being arrested for indecent exposure at an aberdeen adult bookstore. tippees rated the movie theater on pulaski highway on january 16. among those arrested, 46-year- old mark stewart bullock, a priest serving at the immaculate conception.

>> at least two people are dead after a strong storms swept through alabama. two were killed in jervis and county by the strong storms overnight. the same system destroyed homes and buildings in tennessee and arkansas, before heading alabama. several reported seeing funnel clouds but the national weather service has not confirm whether the damage was caused by a tornado. three more bodies have been recovered from the costa

concordia. this morning, they found two more. that makes 15 confirmed deaths since the costa concordia ran aground last friday. at least 19 people are still missing. italian officials say it is possible on registered passengers were on the ship. the political scramble is about to begin in arizona as gabrielle giffords announces her decision to step down from office. the arizona democrat could have continued to serve out her term for another year but announced she needs to concentrate on her recovery. she was shot in the head at a supermarket appearance last year. six people were killed and 12 were injured in the massacre. still to come, why making peanut butter and jelly for your family will soon cost you more. and how good is your child's handwriting? how it could predict their academic future. >> the storm that brought severe

there has been taken a shift to the cyberworld. >> online bank accounts is the prize these days. >> the ability to withdraw money out of your account without you knowing is probably more advantageous than stealing your credit card. >> so how are they doing it? he says scanners are sneaking trojan horse viruses on to our computers and then stealing our bank account, user names, and passwords, but that is not all. once they take the money, they are hiding their tracks. we have seen movies where bad guys to the surveillance cameras into seeing something that is not there. this is how the web browser works when the bad guys take it over. >> in other words, they create a fait page that looks like your bank account that hides the fact that they have stolen your money. >> it is your account, it looks like you are at bank of america,

class mail rate. it seems like the tablet was a popular gift this holiday season. 29% of americans own at least one tablet or it e-reader. that is up 60% from last december. >> it has turned out to be a dull in dreary way, not a good way to start the work week. lots of fog in the area. we can see the rain on the hd doppler, moving towards cecil county, 95, and even more coming in from the west side. it looks like all the showers will be building into the baltimore metro area within the hour and could stick around through the afternoon.

let's take a look at temperatures. that has been critical this morning as we are trying to time out when it would be freezing with that moisture. ice is not a big concern right now as temperatures are getting above the freezing mark. currently at freezing in frederick. 40 at the inner harbor. 40's along the eastern shore. 50's near the eastern shore. we are not seeing a major warmup, but we have gotten above freezing. the wind is picking up as well. that is helping to clear out the fog and bringing temperatures up a little bit. at 6:00, 41. showers possible all the way through 8:00 p.m. and into the night. skies will stay cloudy early on and temperatures in the 30's. showers coming in from the west ahead of a storm system that has

been brewing in the south. the same storm system that brought the severe weather to the south, possible reports of tornadoes as well. however, no severe weather for us, just more rain. we deal with that in the night, and then later on, showers clearing out. temperatures will stay mild, dropping into the mid 30's overnight. that is what we wake up tomorrow morning. mild weather into tuesday. 52 for the high temperature. dry weather tuesday into wednesday and then the next storm system comes in on thursday. mild air, rain. then we talk about the weekend. things get tricky as colder air pushes and with the possibility of snow. again, it is winter, so that is what we expect. >> a new study from florida

international university looked at handwriting and kids. learning to write better earlier can impact overall academic performance. >> what about this picture? >> at this learning center, and teaching these four and five- year olds to write this a priority. >> my favorite letter is k. >> the children's trust funded a study that found out how well these children learn to write will have a significant impact on school grades later. >> researchers analyzed information from 3000 miami dade public-school students first one they were in preschool, and then second grade. >> we found kids to have higher scores on the fine motor running test in pre-k had better grades

and better standard achievement test scores in reading and math. >> pre case students with good writing had be averages in second grade math and reading. prepay students who did poorly in writing had c averages. researchers are still looking into why. >> we think it could be attention. kids that have greater attention skills by also have greater writing skills because they are able to focus and copy. >> researchers encourage parents to work on writing with their kids. >> now i am realizing we should focus more on it. i have never really sat down with them. i have provided the materials and let them access it. >> drawing helps, too, but the proof is now in penmanship and academic performance. >> new research reveals only 25%
