>> the bottom line is, people have to be aware of their surroundings. these are quality of life issues that we take very seriously. >> two women are robbed while trying to get into their car. police say was just before 8:00 tuesday night when the two women left a restaurant in the 4800 block of roland avenue. they were trying to get into their car which was parked for the rear of the building and were approached by a male suspect who threatened to shoot them if they did not give him their purses. the suspect was able to steal one of their purses and got into a struggle with the second woman before fleeing the scene. >> we have seen six police cars on rolling avenue just in our our's wall. -- in our hour's walk. >> it happens, things like this happen once or twice a year.

was attacked a to she got into his cab. police say he stopped and offer the girl or a ride home, assaulted her, and then dropped her off along the 2400 block of baker street. >> shafter forever investigation, anne arundel county police said no charges will be filed against -- after further inspiratioinvestigation. one teenager hectic undergo surgery for serious injuries. detectives said 18-year-old victim was the aggressor in the altercation. he approached a 15-year-old friend and assaulted him over what was later called a misunderstanding. no charges will be filed against either teenager. at this hour we are waiting on the verdict of a trial of an inmate accused of killing a creston -- a corrections officer. kim dacey is live in annapolis

for closing arguments where attorneys are paying a chaotic picture of the crime. -- painting a chaotic picture of the crime. >> the jurors are still deliberating right now. the only word that has come this afternoon was when they came back into the court room to look at the jail cell door that was used as an exhibit in the case. it is just a waiting game now. the prosecution started closing arguments by calling the murder of coral david mcquillen a berlin senseless act. he was killed while on dirty -- while on duty in july 2006. he was stabbed 12 times outside the cell on the fourth floor of the west wing. two prisoners were arrested and charged with the murder. the prosecutors allege harris and stevens got out of their jail cell, trapped in between them this, stabbing him to death, and then went back into their cells. they summed up their case

against the evans. a white tank top found under his mattress, boxers he was wearing, and work boots were found with david mclarin's blood on them. indeed it was argued they are not credible witnesses. they say that crime scene was chaos and evidence was contaminated. the prosecution and defense agreed on one point. in the words of the defense lawyer, this was a horrible and meaningless crime. >> once they could for the day, they will come back and resume deliberations at 9:00 tomorrow morning. he could be facing the death penalty. >> also in annapolis, governor martin o'malley declared a state of the state is strong, and then told the general assembly progress is a choice, and that

recovering tonight after a chicago bound amtrak train derailed today in michigan. officials say the train smashed into a semi that was stuck on the tracks in jackson county. at least two other cars and the engine derailed. officials say none of the injuries was life-threatening. braxton said news from the entertainment world. the creator soul train, don cornelius has died from a self- inflicted gunshot wound. los angeles police responded to a 911 call early this morning and confirm that cornelius, who was 75 years old, was suffering from a gunshot wound. >> tonight pope benedict is offering a heartfelt condolences over the death of a retired cardinal in philadelphia. the 88-year-old was criticized but never charged by two grand juries investigating child sex

and northeast. it looks like the bulk of it will miss us to the south. if you check out the temperatures around the region, you will see why there is no winter concern with this. 60 degrees all the way up to harrisburg, pennsylvania. new york city right now 59, 58 in boston. near 70 still around richmond and norfolk. across our state, it will stay mile tonight. we could set a record low tonight, not a cold record low, but if it does not drop below 50 before midnight, the low today will be the warmest low temperature on record for the first day of february. we could set a strange record, a warm glow temperature. 68 down in southern st. mary's county. there you see the system passing south of us at 3:00 a.m. wet weather heading over toward ocean city. the forecast does call for increasing cloudiness around
