they s say that nussle's vehicle flashing hisawa lights. >> he revved it is engine, and the suspect fled. >> that led to a high-speed chase. investigators are trying to determine if nussle tried to ram the patrol car. sawa's hit a fence. nussle was not injured. sawa joined the state police in 1998, on the left of this picture, flanked by his relatives. his father was killed in t line of duty in march, 1987. a tractor trailer came off the road, hitting the patrol car.

at this hour, we know the victim is an adult male. the police say the investigation is ongoing but do not suspect any foul play. harford county police say height security at haskel is not connected with a fight on campus. we have confirmed that two students have been charged with assault. that incident happened thursday on frum creek road in bel-air. authorities say that two 10th graders were involved in a dispute. disciplinary action has been taken involving school administration, security, and safety officials. as for the extra police presence, we're told it involves resource officers around the county. new information concerning the first degree murder case of george huguely, accused of killing yeardley love from cockeysville in 2010. huguely's lawyers were back in court this afternoon. lowell melser joins us live from

the newsroom with that story. calledely's defense team for a special issue, trying to wedge into more issues, highlighting last minute housekeeping before the trial starts monday with jury selection. university officials are preparing students and staff for the onslaught of media coverage and the opening of old wounds. the nightmarish and to stand out lacrosse player 22-year-old yeardley love's life happened on may 3, 2010, when her roommate found her face down any poll of blood in their off-campus apartment near university of virginia. the police arrested her 24-year- old ex-boyfriend and men's lacrosse player george huguely and charged him with murder. with the trout a few days away, officials warn students and staff of the emotional toll the case could present to the diversity and its committee.

in an email, the president of uva said, "details emanating from the courtroom may create or compound emotional distress for our students, faculty, and staff, and demonstrating support for one another will become especially important." university officials have confirmed more than 150 reporters have registered to cover the trial, and law professors have even offered crash courses on criminal law so that students will have an easier time understanding the trial. friday afternoon, huguely's defense team presented to motions, the first asking for a gag order so that all people involved in the case would not be able to comment to the media until the trial was completed. this was corrected, and the judge went a step further, saying that no pictures of video could be taken of huguely until the jury was seated. the second motion concerns showing 15 graphic photos to the potential jury pool. this was denied, so those pictures will be shown.

as far as the potential jury is concerned, more than 160 notices went out on february 1, but that does not necessarily mean they will be questioned for the huguely trial. defense attorneys are hoping for a jury of 12, with three alternates. jury selection will begin monday morning and is expected to last until tuesday. lawyers from both sides hope to have the jury seated by monday afternoon, with opening arguments tuesday. live from the newsroom, lowell melser, wbal tv 11 news. there are still a lot of questions about governor martin o'malley's plan to raise the state's gas tax. he has yet to put the plan on paper, but as david collins found out, some legislators are taking action in anticipation. he joins us live from the statehouse in annapolis with more. david? >> they've introduced legislation to make sure that whatever money goes into the transportation trust fund that stays with the fund.

maryland law mandates that your gas tax dollars go to the state transportation trust fund. that money is used to pay for roads, bridges, and mass transit projects. in reality, the fund is often used to help balance the state budget. governor o'malley has had to submit his plan at applying the state tells taxed -- the state sales tax to gasoline. the city supports a mechanism to keep the funds from being used for the purposes. but members of the house and senate could not want to leave anything to chance. the bills designed to protect existing and future transportation funding are in the mix. david brinkley is taking an ironclad approached. under no circumstances will transportation money be used for other purposes. >> right now, the taxpayer can look at it as a transportation mess trust fund. >> there is a democratic version of the same idea, but it gives the governor wiggle room. >> under the circus circumstances, if there is a catastrophic thing that occurs,

baltimore, 50 downtown, 45 eastern, western maryland at both 50's. in baltimore tonight, 25-32, mostly clear early, clouds arriving. once the high pressure moves off the coast, the clouds will rapidly increase tomorrow because the western blizzard is coming our way. 30-40 inches of snow west of denver in the mountains, 10-20 inches of snow east of the mountains and plains states. this storm will enter the eastern united states where there is not a lot of arctic cold air. a lot of the precipitation when it gets here will be rain. the snow will be further to the north, with a storm warnings from denver to southwestern iowa. the potential of blizzard conditions continues. the snow is in denver, all kinds of travel problems. severe thunderstorms on the warm side of the gulf coast. all of this moisture is aimed at for the mid-atlantic and will impact the weekend. the future-cast, clouds increase

tomorrow. by the evening, light showers. the temperatures will be mild. as the temperatures drop, early sunday morning, especially in the northern tier, may get cold enough for the rain to switch over to wet snow, especially into southern pennsylvania, north baltimore. this will gradually move out during the afternoon sunday. if the storm stays on this track, the potential of winter weather north of town. the computer models, this blue shaded area indicate an inch of snow is possible in the colder suburbs late saturday night, early sunday morning. we will continue to monitor this as the storm approaches, a lead accumulation is possible early sunday. clouds increase tomorrow, the rate increase in the evening, the wind shifting out of the east. the rain mixes with or changes to wet snow sunday morning, tapering off in the afternoon. partly cloudy monday, low 50's tuesday. the potential of another storm friday of next week.

and rescue are under way. sky team 11 and captain roy taylor are over the scene. >> this is chesterfield road and hawkins road, in crownsville, with a single vehicle accident. there was a person trapped inside the vehicle, flipped upside down several times. the medics are still working on the individual. it originally requested the maryland state police to respond, but they will take the victim to the hospital by ground. the road is closed in both directions, the anne arundel county police investigating. otherre's a look at some top stories. a maryland state trooper escaped major injuries after crashing his cruiser during a high-speed chase after midnight in harford county. senior trooper jon sawa was attempting to pull over a suspected drunk driver. during the pursuit, he crashed into a wooden fence. he suffered only minor injuries.

asked to call the police. iran says that it stands ready to retaliate if the u.s. or israel try to stop their nuclear program, coming amid a report that israel is planned to launch a military strike on iran's nuclear facilities as early as april. the u.s. wants more time for tough sanctions to take effect. sally kidd has the latest. >> addressing worshipers at morning prayers, iran's supreme leader vowed to continue the country's nuclear program and warned that any strike against iran would be met with retaliation. >> the return of threats for oil embargo, when the time comes, we will make threats. and israel's defense minister has suggested the possibility of military action if the sanctions do not work. >> dealing with a nuclear iran will be more complex, dangerous, expensive and blood and money and stopping it today. >> the washington post says

tonight and sports world. a federal prosecutor said they're closing a criminal investigation of lance armstrong and will not be charging him over allegations the seven-time tour de france winner used performance enhancing drugs. they looked at reports of a doping program, received sponsorship from the u.s. postal service. he won the race every year from 1998-2005, and has always denied the doping. but they have closed the investigation. the next president of the u.s. may be an emmy award winning actor and comedian. >> vying for the nomination, the plants if elected president, straight ahead. >> the excitement is kicking into high gear. the super bowl report, next.

officials with the city of baltimore have rename the street after fallen officer william

torbit jr. roadway will be named after him, where he was shot to death after responding to calls of a fight back in january, 2010. it was recently confirmed the deadly shots or the result -- were the result of friendly fire. the street was chosen because that is where his family lives. with the same shovel first used for development in 1922, officials have broken ground on a new multipurpose stadium. be the location for several sports, including football, field hockey, lacrosse, and track. they will keep their bowl seating, and tailgating, but with a large press boxes. funding for the project come from individual gifts. there is a new candidate in

we have been missing the snow, the rocky mountains are getting our share and more. reports of dangerous road conditions, dozens of crashes. denver is expecting a 8-12 inches of snow today, in addition to the 7 inches over night. no surprise that hundreds of flights were canceled at the denver airport. a dangerous freeze has claimed 169 lives in eastern europe, the worst cold snap in decades. 30 fatalities reported today from frostbite and hypothermia.

chicago the next few days. on this end of the storm system, a lot of rain, a little bit of snow expected to the north and west, primarily late tomorrow night. starts as light rain showers, temperatures drop. rain will mix or change into wet snow, especially north of baltimore, cecil county, harford county, the mountains of southern pennsylvania. sunday afternoon, the system will glide out of the region. if it stays on this track and temperatures are cool enough saturday night, perhaps an inch or so of snow. a couple inches possible in western maryland mountains. in this strange winter, it is a hint of the season. increasing cloudiness tomorrow, rain in the evening, 45-50 during the day. rain/snow mixture off and on through the weekend in the western maryland mountains. upper eastern shore has a chance of wet snow tomorrow night. the other area south of cecil county, mostly rain, maybe with wet snow and elkton.

nobody likes paying bills, especially in this economy, but what would you be willing to give up in exchange for having somebody else pay your bills for you for one month? according to a survey, 26% said they would turn off the tv, others would be willing to give up their digital devices. 18% of responders said it would give up sex for six months in exchange for 1 palfrey month. a 52% said it would not give up anything except their hard- earned cash because they prefer to pay their bills instead. a new study today from the pew internet and american life project shows the average facebook user receives more messages, comments, and likes the negev. 63% of users receive a friend requests, only 4% made a french request. the study categorized 20%-30% as
